To find baby animals cuter than actual babies?

I mean, give me a cute puppy or kitten any day. Whenever anyone shows me photos of their babies/toddlers I secretly think to myself ‘my cat is so much cuter’. Anyone else feel the same?! This is a light-hearted thread by the way, no offence to anyone with young children!

I love the smell of kittens. They smell like candy floss Grin

Hoppinggreen · 20/10/2019 10:42

I agree, I only had my 2nd child because DH agreed if we did I could then get a puppy.

Wafflecopter · 20/10/2019 10:52

Are you sure @StCharlotte ? WinkGrin

IsadoraQuagmire · 20/10/2019 11:16

Yes and I can't understand people who adore baby animals and dislike baby humans...it's actually extremely weird, self loathing behaviour to dislike the young of your own species

"Self loathing" hahaha, you're hilarious! My opinion of myself couldnt possibly be any higher. I just can't be arsed with most humans.

To quote Daria " I don't have low self esteem, I have low esteem for everyone else" GrinGrinGrin

GameofPhones · 20/10/2019 11:24

Was having the theory that the appeal of baby animals is just that they are miniature - they look much more like adults than baby humans do, and we love miniature objects (doll houses, etc). But then lambs are cute, and don't look much like grown sheep.

AgathaTheAardvark · 20/10/2019 11:26

Yep, most people I know who dislike babies but love baby animals, actually don't loath themselves at all, they just hate other humans. Especially other humans which get more attention than they do.

Celebelly · 20/10/2019 11:43

I wonder why some people might dislike other humans. If only there was some sort of reason on this thread 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I want to be one of those people who lies on the floor and a dozen puppies climb over me Grin I'm putting that on my bucket list.

I know that dogs have killed people in the past. I still love dogs.

Kallyderon · 20/10/2019 11:49

Agree with you @formerbabe. I always find it quite chilling when people proudly talk about their dislike of the majority of their fellow humans and their "love" of members of a different species based on either non-reciprocal or grossly unequal social transactions. And of course the reason for this preference for mute biddable and lifelong dependent companions is always due to "everyone else" being problematic in some way.

AgathaTheAardvark · 20/10/2019 11:49

Also, if dogs could type they'd probably be saying you're a right dick for wanting their babies to crawl all over you Wink.

Yep! It's everybody else's fault. That's why they hate some of the most vulnerable members of society (babies and young children), Hmm.

Celebelly · 20/10/2019 11:53

It's quite a stretch to go from 'baby animals are often cuter than babies' to 'I hate humankind and wish to destroy them', even for MN! Grin Bravo, ladies!! And all before midday on a Sunday.

AgathaTheAardvark · 20/10/2019 11:54

@Celebelly.

This is what some of us were responding to. No leap required. Even by MN standards fnar fnar.

Celebelly · 20/10/2019 11:56

Can't be arsed with most humans hardly equals hating the most vulnerable members of society though Hmm

YANBU. I actually think new born babies are ugly actually, don't shoot me for saying that. They don't really do anything at that age do they, just sleep, poo, wee, cry and occasionally be sick.

I remember when my cousin brough her new born DD to our house for the first time and obviously everyone cooed over her. As she was leaving one of neighbours came down the road taking their puppy for a walk and I made much more of a fuss of the dog that I did over the baby. DM got quite annoyed with me for that, she couldn't believe I made more of a fuss over a dog. But it WAS cute, it came and jumped up and me and wagged its tail, licked me and generally very pleased to meet me. The baby on the other hand had just stared at us!

GameofPhones · 20/10/2019 11:58

If cats could talk they wouldn't.

CravingCheese · 20/10/2019 12:01

Depends on the species of baby animal tbh. (not all baby animals are actually adorable...)
and on the baby. I'm sure that our LO will be super adorable and the cutest (to me).
But I've actually recently seen a stranger's baby that was incredibly cute and looked very squeezable (?). But Idk if that's due to pregnancy hormones or because the baby really was unusually adorable...

AgathaTheAardvark · 20/10/2019 12:02

If cats could talk they wouldn't.

True!

TrainspottingWelsh · 20/10/2019 12:03

Yes, because of course finding baby animals cuter than human babies is exactly the same as hating children and having a shit attitude towards them. And of course means the person hates other humans for getting more attention than them. That's not far flung or ridiculous at all.

I suspect some people are just full of indignation that they've just realised not every adult feels their dc is the cutest thing on the planet. And isn't overwhelmed by broodiness when they see them.

Oh christ no, not all people who love baby animals are like this. But people who specifically say "I hate babies. I only like animals. Don't really like humans at all"? Have you never met anyone who says that? Don't you think that's indicative of a problem somewhere? Not self loathing. It's something else. It's interesting to discuss it on here no? Nobody is accusing normal people who love animals of anything, but these particular people who say what I just quoted.

CravingCheese · 20/10/2019 12:07

Ah, you're basically describing one of my aunts. Being the cause of actual nightmares (yes, I apparently wouldn't want to fall asleep, woke up crying etc)? Eh, my parents were apparently being too sensitive...

Mentioning that her dogs maaaybe shouldn't slobber all over my nieces toys and items like teething rings? Or telling her that her crying and talking about her personal issues on my brother's birthday party is maybe not the right time?
How dare I! Dog hater that I apparently am.Hmm

TrainspottingWelsh · 20/10/2019 12:27

agatha I don't know really. Certainly, I've never met or heard of an animal that was malicious. Some humans are. So I can see why some people with extensive experience of the latter type of human might prefer animals on a race level, rather than just on a cuteness/ company level.

Certainly up to my late teens I would have honestly said that humans I really liked were the exception, but on the whole I only really trusted and liked animals. I can understand why some people might not have ever changed that viewpoint, or more likely had the opportunity to change it.

Plus ime as well as some previous trauma involving human behaviour, it's more likely to be an opinion of those with an issue that makes human communication harder than it is for the rest of us.

AgathaTheAardvark · 20/10/2019 12:34

Lucky you! I have heard several people IRL say this and seen it on here too.

I think you have hit on something with trauma though. I think you're right that some people who have suffered trauma at the hands of another human, might make a stronger negative association with humans than someone who has say, been bitten by a dog. So, people who say they are wary of other humans is understandable.

What makes that then become "I hate babies", or "i hate children"? I could find you plenty of examples online of this if you like. It is apparently a fine thing to say. Nobody has been attacked or traumatised by a baby, so why do babies so often become the focus?

IdentifyasTired · 20/10/2019 12:37

I love them aaallll. Babies, kittens, puppies, rabbit kittens, lambs, EVERYTHING.

AgathaTheAardvark · 20/10/2019 12:39

Ah I misread that sorry. I thought you'd said you have never met a person so malicious as to say what I quoted to you previously.

You don't really know what sort of personality an animal has. We cannot communicate with them at that level.
