To find baby animals cuter than actual babies?

I mean, give me a cute puppy or kitten any day. Whenever anyone shows me photos of their babies/toddlers I secretly think to myself ‘my cat is so much cuter’. Anyone else feel the same?! This is a light-hearted thread by the way, no offence to anyone with young children!

Are they cuter than older babies/ toddlers? A 12 week old puppy is super cute, but more akin to an 18 month old toddler than a baby. A lot of baby mammals are not obviously cute for the first few days.

Definitely. Puppies, kittens, baby giraffes, foals etc are adorable from the beginning. I do think newborns are adorable(though kittens still win) but for me human babies become much less cute as they age. Toddlers are very low on the list for me.

Was it Nancy Mitford or someone else who described a human baby as "a howling orange in a black wig"? My brother and I just looked like potatoes with wigs. I avoid babies in the office; a former colleague when forced to hold one got through it by thinking of it as a differently shaped puppy.... 🤣

I'm weird though as I like teenagers better than primary aged children.

YANBU. My DD is obv the cutest baby in the world but baby animals are far cuter than most other babies out there. I'd much rather cuddle a puppy than a random baby.

I wasn’t re-wired correctly after DD (and even now whilst very pregnant) it seems, as I find very few babies cute.
My SIL’s DC looks like a creepy elf to me and DH. 😂

However a baby rabbit/dog/duck? SO adorable. Not as fussed once they’re older anymore though, maybe it was only a partial re-wire?

Absolutely no way. I absolutely love human babies. Animal babies just look like load of hard work & mess to me.

Animals leave me cold...I don't find them especially cute. I would hate to see them suffer or be in pain, but I'm not interested in them.

I remember being in a family friendly pub at lunchtime. My dc were sat there quietly at the table causing zero trouble or bother...whilst a horrible woman gave them dirty looks. Meanwhile people were falling over themselves to pat my friends dog.

On the other hand, I absolutely adore newborn babies...I don't want another child but I totally melt at the sight of a new baby.

This is one of the reasons why it took me so bloody long to have a child!

Even now, if you gave me the choice of holding and fussing over a human baby or baby animal (any species!) it would be the baby animal every time!

In fact, I imagine humans finding animals cute is actually quite unnatural and only a result of social conditioning. We'd have been the shittest hunter gatherers around if we had stopped to ooh and ahh over the animals.

YANBU. Obvious my babies are adorable but most human babies are not as cute as baby animals.

99.9% of newborns are very weird looking. I thought mine were the exception to the rule but, looking back, I think I was blinded by sleep deprivation and love. Blush

I have a theory that baby animals are cute so their parents don't eat them. Baby humans don't need to be cute on the basis that human parents should already have the cognitive awareness not to eat their young.

Babies have always left me cold until they're at least 10 months. I've never been one for holding other people's babies and if a friend shoves one in my arms for a cuddle I can't wait to give them back (even though I know the parents are doing me an honour in their world and I appreciate that). But walk past me with your puppy and I will be cooing and dying for a cuddle!

Why, though? How is it harming you? I understand that anyone banging on and on about something can be annoying, but how is someone going on and on about a pet any more annoying than someone going on and on about a baby?

Yes and I can't understand people who adore baby animals and dislike baby humans...it's actually extremely weird, self loathing behaviour to dislike the young of your own species.

People find their own baby cute even when the rest of the world thinks it looks like a cross between winston Churchill with constipation and mr potato head but puppies. OMG. I will take them all.....

Then remember the little needles that are their teeth, the pain of toilet training, the need to chew everything.......

Babies make feel queasy. The dribbling, vomiting and shitting really turns my stomach. They're usually bald, red, crusty and smell of curdled milk.

Also other people's children sticky disgusting hands - urgh I feel sick just thinking about it.

However I was pleasantly surprised to find that none of that bothered me with my own child (apart from the cheesy/milk smell. As babies go, he really was cute and I would have been the first one to admit, had he resembled an angry old man Grin

Now, baby animals (particularly puppies) are simply the most beautiful creatures on the planet. I could cry when I see one. I feel intense love and the bond I have with my animals is stronger than the one I have with pretty much any person, husband and child not withstanding (actually I think I prefer my animals to my husband!)

This is also the reason that I have six dogs and one child Grin
