Should I have shared my garlic bread?

Went to Nando’s with some pals, we all like doing this because we all order what we want separately and there’s no faffing with splitting the bill.

Our orders came, and I ordered garlic bread as my side. I love garlic bread, and I love the bread they put their garlic butter on and it’s my fave thing.

Friends meal arrives, she’s ordered chips and coleslaw as her side, looks forlornly over at my perfect garlic bread and says “I wish I’d ordered the garlic bread now”. Someone else pipes up with “oh you’ll know for next time.” And we all
Laughed.

So I just eat my meal and enjoy my (two slices of) garlic bread. She’s got an absolute face on at the end of the meal and I asked her what was up and she said to me “you could’ve offered me one of your slices of garlic bread instead of gutsing them both”.

I wish I was more mature and I wish that comment hadn’t hurt me but I’m in the middle of a weight loss journey (still treating myself to sinful garlic bread sometimes) I have to say it really shocked me and I’ve been thinking about it ever since (i know iabu because it’s just a comment but still). She made me feel like a right gutsy git.

If it was something like an Indian meal I’d have had no problem sharing bits of everything because that’s the kind of meal it is but with something like Nando’s surely you just pick what you want? Was I right to eat both my pieces of garlic bread or should I have offered to share?

She sounds like a dick.

Babybel90 · 16/10/2019 21:40

No way would I swap garlic bread for chips, if you’d wanted chips you would’ve ordered them. And only 2 slices, it’s not like you ate a whole loaf of bloody bread. CF, I’d watch out for her in future.

GabsAlot · 16/10/2019 21:43

I was referring to nando's not in general ffs @rainingallday Confused

morrisseysquif · 16/10/2019 21:44

Your 'friend' is jealous of your restrain during your weight loss journey, hence her need to shame you.

Don't you feel bad, secretly mark her friendship card as 'not a true friend'.

IncrediblySadToo · 16/10/2019 21:49

It’s absolutely irrelevant whether you could or should have shared it with her.

Her saying you ‘gutsied’ it was horrible of her, weight loss journey or not, implying someone is greedy is nasty

You weren’t being unreasonable not to share what you ordered though. I admire your ability to ignore the pressure!

But ffs I’m eating keto and I really want garlic bread now! (I’ve never eaten Nando’s)

StillCoughingandLaughing · 16/10/2019 21:50

YABU. It's just a slice of bread, why get so attached to it?

She ate it - she didn’t build a shrine to it.

OP - as soon as she started hinting I probably would have said ‘I’d offer you a slice, but I’m greedy!’ and laughed. The fact that she actively brought it up would make me be a lot less jokey about it! Cheeky cow. It’s her own fault for ordering coleslaw! Anyone could see that had disappointment written all over it.

PancakeAndKeith · 16/10/2019 21:52

I've just checked, Nando's garlic bread is £2.60, £2 fucking 60. If she wanted some she should have just ordered some.

PhilSwagielka · 16/10/2019 21:53

YANBU. Rude bitch (her, not you). If she wanted garlic bread, she should have ordered it, and if she wanted some of yours, she should have asked.

Chloemol · 16/10/2019 21:53

She should have just asked for a side when she got her food. I am sure they would have got her one

glitterfarts · 16/10/2019 21:56

She was VVU! You're under no obligation to share your food.

I think I'll have to go to Nando's next year and try this garlic bread. Never been!

Wonkybanana · 16/10/2019 21:59

OP let it go.
No you shouldn't have shared.
No you weren't rude.
No you didn't 'guts' them both, you ate them.
Stop letting her get to you and wondering if you should have shared. You did nothing wrong. She, on the other hand, was rude, entitled, petulant and greedy.

Loveislandaddict · 16/10/2019 22:02

Can’t quite believe this thread has got to seven pages!

AthollPlace · 16/10/2019 22:06

It wasn’t just you and her though - there were a few of you. So how come you’re the only one who’s greedy for not sharing when nobody shared? It was downright nasty of her to use a shaming word to call you greedy for eating a normal size portion of food that you’d ordered for yourself.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 16/10/2019 22:16

rainingallday

You’re welcome 😆 “Oh yours is really nice” “Yes it is, that’s why I ordered it” Absolutely!

ivfbabymomma1 · 16/10/2019 22:32

I have never wanted a slice (or 2) of Nando’s garlic bread so much in my life.....

SunshineAngel · 16/10/2019 22:33

My god, she can sod off. You order food separately in Nando's, so if she wanted some, she could have got some. She could even have gone back to order it if she wanted to!

ReanimatedSGB · 16/10/2019 22:35

She's a twat. What is it with these cunts who eat all their own food then try to bully other people for not 'sharing'?

ToPlanZ · 16/10/2019 22:41

What a horrible thing for her to say, suggesting that you are greedy for wanting to eat your food, when she actually wanted hers and yours! I would definitely have pointed out that she was the one trying to be piggy!

kateandme · 16/10/2019 22:41

2 slices.only 2 slices.that is the cheeky bit!
Seriously though don't think any more about it she was very rude and horrid. Your fab and deserve your own garlic bread.shaming is never ok.

cindersrella · 16/10/2019 22:50

Your friend has obviously never watched Gavin and Stacey!

It is a classic OP

kateandme · 16/10/2019 22:55

cindersrella or the joey scene in friends

cindersrella · 16/10/2019 22:57

Kate I may get slaughtered for this but I haven't watched friends....

everytimerickysayscuntIlaugh · 16/10/2019 23:29

The only one being a guts was the person wanting to eat their food plus half of yours!
