Should I have shared my garlic bread?

Went to Nando’s with some pals, we all like doing this because we all order what we want separately and there’s no faffing with splitting the bill.

Our orders came, and I ordered garlic bread as my side. I love garlic bread, and I love the bread they put their garlic butter on and it’s my fave thing.

Friends meal arrives, she’s ordered chips and coleslaw as her side, looks forlornly over at my perfect garlic bread and says “I wish I’d ordered the garlic bread now”. Someone else pipes up with “oh you’ll know for next time.” And we all
Laughed.

So I just eat my meal and enjoy my (two slices of) garlic bread. She’s got an absolute face on at the end of the meal and I asked her what was up and she said to me “you could’ve offered me one of your slices of garlic bread instead of gutsing them both”.

I wish I was more mature and I wish that comment hadn’t hurt me but I’m in the middle of a weight loss journey (still treating myself to sinful garlic bread sometimes) I have to say it really shocked me and I’ve been thinking about it ever since (i know iabu because it’s just a comment but still). She made me feel like a right gutsy git.

If it was something like an Indian meal I’d have had no problem sharing bits of everything because that’s the kind of meal it is but with something like Nando’s surely you just pick what you want? Was I right to eat both my pieces of garlic bread or should I have offered to share?

Mmm, halal garlic bread. Yum

Devora13 · 17/10/2019 20:44

I think I would have said 'Don't know if you noticed but I only ordered one side instead of guarding two.' Reminds me of a certain child who goes all big eyed when there's something they fancy until someone gives in and lets them have some. Sit next to a grown up next time.

Just had my first ever Nandos today for lunch with ds.

Ds had a burger and chips, I had chicken thighs, peri-chips and inspired by this thread garlic bread! £29 for chicken n chips for 2 😱 but thought must be worth it and it is going to be great. It was really underwhelming, including the flat coke. Neither ds or I were keen on the garlic bread and left a slice.

Regardless of my disappointment, your friend was being unreasonable.

PepsiMaxCherry · 17/10/2019 21:21

I have never heard the phrase gutsing b4

Nousernamefound · 17/10/2019 21:29

Joey don’t share food! Just say that.

Halal meat is killed under the auspices of Islamic law...look it up!

Animal partially stunned using a lesser voltage, so still squirming, when the throat is cut and the blood drained from the hanging animal. Blood doesn't drain well when the animal is dead, it congeals rapidly which doesn't fit with Islamic practice.
An Islamic prayer is recanted over the animal during the slaughter.....this is NOT my religion
I like chicken and by all accounts Nandos does it well but I want a choice not to eat meat inhumanely killed. We live in an accommodating, diverse country but increasingly its all one way. I shouldn't have to ask is a restaurant Halal, it should be clearly stated on the door but restaurants will hide the fact for financial purposes.

We know what halal means.

Alicurlywurly · 17/10/2019 21:52

she's not a friend - who on earth would make you feel bad for eating the food you chose and bought.....

If it bothers you that my dont eat meat, I fail to see how what "prayer" is said over the meat you are eating makes any difference whatsoever! Either way meat or don't! You aren't there when every piece of meat you consume is born and raised and then slaughtered so you have zero idea if the animal you are consuming has been abused throughout its entire life or not.? Therefore if your argumen5 is the way they are slaughtered or the fact a certain prayer is said over it bothers you then I'm sorry but go vegetarian or vegan! Simples 🤔🤣 jeez there's always one

Sound like she was hangry and needed more food. She should have ordered herself a desert..She's maybe not herself when she's hungry

Butterflycookie · 17/10/2019 22:09

NoSquirrels · 17/10/2019 22:13

@sovereign333
All Nando's meat is Halal, no choice!

Err... you know you’re flat-out wrong, don’t you?

NoSquirrels · 17/10/2019 22:15

Halal Chicken

We have 434 restaurants, 76 of which serve only Halal chicken and are signposted both in the restaurant and online.

Next time say "well order your own next time hey? Then you won't need to keep making eyes at mine?"

TiaraBus · 17/10/2019 23:05

Nope. Nandos is sacrosanct. You don't share your Nandos. She is ridiculous. just think how small minded she is that it bothered her the whole meal.I like the suggestion of next time ordering 10 pieces and eating them in front of her. I would probably order 10 pieces and give her 8 and say, happy now? Or ordering 10 pieces and cutting the crust off one and giving it to her. And now I am craving Nando's and my nearest Nandos is 100 miles away.

< goes to bed fearing craving will cause lack of sleep >

chardonm · 18/10/2019 02:39

She was unreasonable but I would have given her a slice!

MrsP2018 · 18/10/2019 04:47

you never share garlic bread ever!! I order sometimes a 12" garlic bread...extra garlic, extra cheese, its mine, all mine!!

PapayaCoconut · 18/10/2019 05:00

I hate food sharing, it's unhygienic and annoying and you end up having to give away food you wanted to eat and being given food that you don't want to eat, out of some misplaced sense of politeness.

I remember a friend buying a toastie when we were about 16 (because she was hungry) and politely offering a piece to everyone around the table. I declined, but everyone else took a bite and she ended up with a tiny piece to herself. It was a fucking sandwich, not a Michelin starred tasting menu. Ridiculous. Sharing food is not necessary unless it's something amazing that you don't want others to miss out on. Nandos is not.

PatricksRum · 18/10/2019 05:06

YANBU. Garlic bread from Nandos is tiny, she could have always ordered extra.

Mothership4two · 18/10/2019 05:17

Like lots of other posters, I am wondering why she didn't order some garlic bread of her own. If she had ordered it when her food arrived it would have come pretty quickly.

Years ago I went for a meal out with 3 friends and, because we were pretty full, we ordered one ice-cream between us and had a mock fight to see who could scoop the most up (pushing spoons away, all very silly). Everyone had a laugh. Afterwards one of my friends went quiet and then got all sad and sulky because he said I had scoffed most of the ice-cream. It was really embarrassing and put a complete downer on the evening - we went from fun vibe to well lets just end the evening now and go home then. He made me feel like a pig and I didn't even want the bloody ice-cream, I was just being silly. I asked the other two later if I had been a glutton and they said no, I had taken the same amount as everyone else and it was supposed to be a laugh anyway. I think what got to him was the fact that I beat him to the last spoonful.

Some people are just prats!

malteasergeezer · 18/10/2019 06:21

All this hysteria and anger for a plate of garlic bread. Bizarre.
