Should I have shared my garlic bread?

Went to Nando’s with some pals, we all like doing this because we all order what we want separately and there’s no faffing with splitting the bill.

Our orders came, and I ordered garlic bread as my side. I love garlic bread, and I love the bread they put their garlic butter on and it’s my fave thing.

Friends meal arrives, she’s ordered chips and coleslaw as her side, looks forlornly over at my perfect garlic bread and says “I wish I’d ordered the garlic bread now”. Someone else pipes up with “oh you’ll know for next time.” And we all
Laughed.

So I just eat my meal and enjoy my (two slices of) garlic bread. She’s got an absolute face on at the end of the meal and I asked her what was up and she said to me “you could’ve offered me one of your slices of garlic bread instead of gutsing them both”.

I wish I was more mature and I wish that comment hadn’t hurt me but I’m in the middle of a weight loss journey (still treating myself to sinful garlic bread sometimes) I have to say it really shocked me and I’ve been thinking about it ever since (i know iabu because it’s just a comment but still). She made me feel like a right gutsy git.

If it was something like an Indian meal I’d have had no problem sharing bits of everything because that’s the kind of meal it is but with something like Nando’s surely you just pick what you want? Was I right to eat both my pieces of garlic bread or should I have offered to share?

I don’t even need to read your post. You NEVER need to share food. Never mind glorious garlic bread.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 17/10/2019 19:36

Okay. Now I have read your post.. some ‘friend’ to say that to you!

Idleandy · 17/10/2019 19:41

Greedy spoilt bitch......get your own!

taytosandwich · 17/10/2019 19:43

'LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
Really? All these posts because of a slice of garlic bread? LOL LOL LOL LOL
There are people, usually in Africa, starving, Sadly, this country now also has people starving. Food Banks, in Britain? In the 21st Century?
And you have issues with a slice of garlic bread. Get over it dahling.
223 messages regarding this? LOL LOL LOL LOL! 9 pages, dedicated to a slice of garlic bread? Wow.'

Well this is an unnecessarily dramatic and annoying post.

Aunaturalmama · 17/10/2019 19:46

I would have shared. But hey I know what it’s like to be in a weight loss journey and food possessive when you’re actually eating something good.
she shouldn’t have said anything lol it’s not an obligation to share just being a courteous person

Tas1984 · 17/10/2019 19:51

I agree with others she’s being a spoilt brat. If she wanted them that badly she could have re ordered them. Don’t feel bad. You owed her nothing x

Singlenotsingle · 17/10/2019 19:51

She should have ordered some for herself.

She's being rude and entitled and the next time you see her you need to pull her up.

That comment was nasty and uncalled for: if she wanted garlic bread she should have ordered some.

Have you lost a lot of weight? Is she jealous?

Sandytoesfrecklednose · 17/10/2019 19:52

Wtf!?! Why in the world would someone expect to just have some of your food because they like the look of yours better?! I get terrible plate envy when I eat out, I say Oooh that looks nice and then make a mental note to order that meal next time. Given that it was Nando’s and when they check your food is ok, they ask if you need/want anything else she had every opportunity to order her own garlic bread! I can’t click YANBU hard enough. And as for the comment, seriously? What kind of friend says things like that.

CalishataFolkart · 17/10/2019 19:55

Some people’s vocabulary when it comes to food are weird. “Gutsing” ffs. There’s forever reports of irritating people “munching” “slurping” and “chomping.” The other day we had “crunchy crisps and stinky pints [of beer]”

sovereign333 · 17/10/2019 19:56

You eat at Nando's so enjoy being force fed Halal meat without any option to chose???
Really?? Do you all not realise what butchery practices go on to obtain Nando's meat?

karalou2 · 17/10/2019 19:57

If it's never happened before, I think she's jealous of your weight loss and resorted to childish bullying to make you feel bad. Maybe you should reconsider your 'friendship'. She clearly doesn't know the meaning....

lloyd1986 · 17/10/2019 19:57

Ok so 100% honesty here..no you were not being unreasonable (btw full disclosure I hardly ever come on here but this email caught my eye lmao and as I was scrolling I clicked on the yabu by accident 🙈🙈sorry) personally if it was me and one of my close friends I think with 99% assurance I would've automatically offered a slice however im a people pleaser and also I've never been to nandos (I know! But in my defence I had my first child at 17 and have spent the last 15 the years looking after them and my partner, the closest we get to a meal out is McDonald's drive through lmao). Everyone here is saying how easy it would've been for her to order herself another side so I'm going with that! I hope the way she worded it wasn't a personal dig but if it was and you feel as though it was go with your gut feeling, you don't need people around you that make u feel like shit over a slice of bread!!! Of it was me who was your friend and you'd ordered something I thought looked amazing I would've been open and up front and said "omg that looks so good but I can't afford to order another side, would you mind swapping some of your chips for a slice"? (I don't know her circumstances so I'm going with the only logical explanation here that she couldn't afford another) however if you'd then said "to be honest I don't really want chips and I've been looking forward to this for weeks, months etc" as previously said I would've replied perfectly honestly by saying something along the lines of ahh damn! Well at least I know what I deffo wanna order next time! That would've been that! No hard feelings and it would've made me even more excited about the thought of us meeting up again...even just to discuss how gorgeous the garlic bread is 😂😂😂

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/10/2019 20:01

Force fed halal meat?
Righto nutter

timshelthechoice · 17/10/2019 20:04

Your passive aggressive so-called mate has found your thread here, OP. What a snarky PA attempt to tell the OP she's greedy and rude, Au, we all bow to your moral superiority.

sovereign333 · 17/10/2019 20:13

All Nando's meat is Halal, no choice! No one in their right minds would eat meat killed inhumanely having a prayer to Mohammed said over the animal during their dying throes.... Yuck

managedmis · 17/10/2019 20:14

Course not, sovereign

Harls1969 · 17/10/2019 20:15

She should have ordered herself some garlic bread then. Don't take it to heart, you've done nothing wrong

Keepitjuicyjuicy · 17/10/2019 20:29

No....it was your bought and paid for meal. She could have changed her sides if she changed her mind, what an entitled cow!

sovereign333 · 17/10/2019 20:31

Sad when we're all sweating the small stuff when animal welfare should be of more concern. Get over yourselves

messolini9 · 17/10/2019 20:32

@Sovereign333, can you explain why halal is crueller than standard UK abattoir practice?

Weird... I’ve been going to Nando’s for 15 years, having been vegetarian the entire time. Not once did they try to force feed me meat.
