No butter dish here. I’ve broken two so am not allowed one now.

I went on a house party/weekend away once where guests all shared the shopping and brought meals. The person in charge of breakfast food said they would bring butter for toast.

They brought spread. Entirely ruined breakfast. Never again!

I was very stupid for a long time. I used to buy butter and put it in the cupboard and then get fed up every time it turned to mush half way through the block but then if I kept it in the fridge it was too hard. It was only when I got a job on a homewares store and saw all the lovely butter dishes on display that it dawned on me what my problem was Grin I appreciate my butter tub (lovely butter dish was a victim of gravity X tiles) every time I take it out of the cupboard. Great invention Grin

SoundOfSilence that is the butter dish of my childhood!

I'm loving the butter dish examples. So much prettier than a Flora tub, anyway!

Do the French ones work? I always imagine the butter falling into the water.

CravingCheese · 14/10/2019 11:31

@smemorata

It does. It means that you cooked with butter (instead of a cheaper butter substitutes). Which then evolved to mean everything is good. At least that's what I believe to remember from school....

(I seem to remember doing a unit about sayings aka Sprichwörter in high school.)

Twosoups making tug boat noises while making toast is how I get through breakfast time. Smile
I feel sorry for lesser dish owners.

@ImNotYourGranny

I don't have one, but if I did it'd be a French one like this.

Me too! No idea how they work though. Does the water touch the butter?

TheQueef · 14/10/2019 11:39

Yes, the top of the butter is in contact with the water, but it doesn't matter as they don't mix.

Ha SchadenfreudePersonified - not only do I have the Lurpak butter dish and toast rack but I have two Lurpak egg cups as well!

I have four butter dishes - the Lurpak one, a Portmerion one, a Border Fine Arts one and the one I'm currently using which is Le Creseut one like Charleymouse's but in grey.

Margarine or any form of butter substitute does not darken the doors of the Cross home.
