O thank you mumsnet, I've spent 20 minutes admiring butter dishes - had no idea they're so varied and delightful - and it's a lovely way to start my day. Plain white china here but occasionally use a blue and white Victorian soap dish, which I bought believing it to be a butter dish. Wondered why it had a drainer in the top.Confused

I've added the whale to my list.

I'm tempted to add a few more, just to start a conversation amongst family members that gives me a "natural" opening for why they should all boycott Flora...

historysock · 17/10/2019 08:28

Dia12 It was a gift so not sure where wit came from but it was part of a range as I got given a few matching things over the years-cake stands and things.
I've taken a picture of the logo on the bottom for you to see if you can find it but it's not helpful really as I can't make out the name of the company from it.
If I had to guess, knowing the gifter, it would have come from a sort of posh garden centre/home type shop, or John Lewis.

@youokhon I have the whale butter dish. It is lovely but randomly not quite big enough for a new block of butter without it smearing all over the lid

jobbymcginty · 17/10/2019 08:40

jobbymcginty · 17/10/2019 08:46

Sausage already beat me to it. I have the same-one. I used to have the lurpack one but lost it in a house move

hennybeans · 17/10/2019 10:18

I have a bright yellow Le Creuset dish from TK Maxx.

Also, I love a PP's suggestion of a dish with "Butter not Manspread" on it!

PickAChew · 17/10/2019 13:08

Acorn dairies, up here in the northeast, sells butter shaped into logs, rather than blocks.

I had a beautiful plain one, and then a lovely cow one, but both were broken by my children. Now I have the Ikea 365 dish and lid which is used upside down. The lid clips on so is secure and the children haven’t managed to break it yet. They’re a bit older now though and I do love some of these....

YouFellAsleeep · 17/10/2019 15:44

Grambler Thanks for the code! Just used it to buy one of the butter dishes and a dish towel Grin

twosoups1972 · 17/10/2019 17:15

Where can I buy the Le Creuset one for cheaper please?

MrsPnut · 17/10/2019 17:17

TK Maxx usually has them for £12.99. Have to keep an eye out for the colour you want though.

Banana770 · 17/10/2019 17:26

I’ve been wanting a butter dish for ages, this thread is brilliant! Stupid question - does it go in the fridge or not? I thought it did, DH said it didn’t... I feel like this is a really stupid question!!

twosoups1972 · 17/10/2019 18:00

Thank you @MrsPnut in store or online?

@Banana no, you can leave it out of the fridge except when it's really hot.

WeirdCatLady · 17/10/2019 18:15

Twosoups, I got mine from HomeSense, which I think is owned by TKMaxx, for £12.99.

MrsPnut · 17/10/2019 18:26

In store, I never manage to leave there empty handed.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 17/10/2019 18:26

@Banana770 it doesn't go in the fridge.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 17/10/2019 18:58

No fridge needed unless it’s blazing hot outside, high 20s low 30s maybe.

twosoups1972 · 17/10/2019 19:06

So black or teal butter dish??

Teenagemaw · 17/10/2019 19:25

J got the le cruset one from tkmaax every now and again my tkmaax has loads of le cruset stuff. I went for the cream but i reaaally wanted the teal which they didn't have.

TheChampagneGalop · 17/10/2019 19:33

The obvious choice is a whale, twosoups

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/10/2019 19:55

Oooo doesn't look like anyone's got mine yet. Was from Anthropologie because I'm an interiors wanker. At the moment it's a stunt dish because I haven't got any butter in until I make a cake at the weekend.

I love West German 60s and 70s pottery and this reminded me of that. Really enjoying seeing everyone's!

PickAChew · 17/10/2019 20:03

I was drooling over that one despite my ownership of a similarly coloured Le Creuset model, Lady

It's so pretty.
