@EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard I love your one from France!

@FizzyIce. Naughty 🐱 maybe you need one that clips closed and has a heavy base! Or send 🐱 to me and I’ll sort out his climbing into the worktop habit for you!!

I found out this morning why I can’t have a butter dish ...
One of my bastard cats had it off the side during the night and licked the butter down to a mere nubbin.
We’d used over half of it luckily or I’d be expecting a huge amount of cat spew today

Report back when you find them! With pics! (Have NC'd but I'm earlier up the thread).

I had no idea people had a thing about butter dishes. I've been suffering in silence for years. Not for myself, through my DH. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to curtail him from additional purchases. This thread is both heaven and torture for him and he now has a wish list Confused We've never eaten any substitute for butter and another thing, oddly I've never given much thought to the design and lids before reading this. No idea how or why he developed a bit of an obsession, although I confess my weakness is both bowls and jugs.

Not counting butter dishes past there are currently six at the Enrique residence, so for your perusal

These are both the deep dish with lid type. The Butter one is the one in use at the moment.

These are three tray with lid types, two with a ridge and one without and one dome style. The dome is LSA and I admit it's a thing of beauty, but it's never been used for fear of fat staining the wooden base. The olive design is the oldest, the white, blue and green one is to a dinner service and the stick and pebble one is French. It's my favourite one and I still remember seeing it in a shop window in Dinan and going back when the shop was open. I've always liked it and the memories it brings back.

My parents had the stainless steel with wooden handle one and a le Creuset type in dark green, although I think it was just the same shape and heavy pottery and not branded. So many threads on MN take me back in time.

Twosoups I vote for both - don’t you have salted and unsalted in your house? If not then perhaps teal so it stands out on the worktop. I have kitchen envy for your very stylish kitchen 💙🖤

@twosoups1972 - teal would contrast more but black would go with your bread bin. Would you see it on a black counter top though?

Omg, thanks to the PP who mentioned Anthropologie. Never heard of it before but oh, so many lovely things!

Thanks to this post I realised I didn't need to wait for someone to break the old one and I need at least two more. So this one has been ordered and I'm on the lookout for another but I want a fancier one so might take me a while to decide.

I had a beautiful plain one, and then a lovely cow one, but both were broken by my children. Now I have the Ikea 365 dish and lid which is used upside down. The lid clips on so is secure and the children haven’t managed to break it yet. They’re a bit older now though and I do love some of these....

I was drooling over that one despite my ownership of a similarly coloured Le Creuset model, Lady

It's so pretty.

Oooo doesn't look like anyone's got mine yet. Was from Anthropologie because I'm an interiors wanker. At the moment it's a stunt dish because I haven't got any butter in until I make a cake at the weekend.

I love West German 60s and 70s pottery and this reminded me of that. Really enjoying seeing everyone's!

No fridge needed unless it’s blazing hot outside, high 20s low 30s maybe.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 17/10/2019 18:26

@Banana770 it doesn't go in the fridge.

MrsPnut · 17/10/2019 18:26

In store, I never manage to leave there empty handed.

WeirdCatLady · 17/10/2019 18:15

Twosoups, I got mine from HomeSense, which I think is owned by TKMaxx, for £12.99.

Thank you @MrsPnut in store or online?

@Banana no, you can leave it out of the fridge except when it's really hot.

I’ve been wanting a butter dish for ages, this thread is brilliant! Stupid question - does it go in the fridge or not? I thought it did, DH said it didn’t... I feel like this is a really stupid question!!

Report
MrsPnut · 17/10/2019 17:17

TK Maxx usually has them for £12.99. Have to keep an eye out for the colour you want though.
