Polish butter dish is most likely Bolesławiec ware

Often to be found in TK MAxx

I have a boring plastic see through dish. I was in TK Maxx looking at butter dishes yesterday and looked away as I didn't 'need' on. Seeing all yours...maybe I do. (Back to TK Maxx I go....)

Butter is no good for poor sods like me with milk intolerances though, "reconstituted plastic goo" is a great dairy free butter option.

Olive oil? There are also various nut butter substitutes... Unless you also have a nut allergy. (in which case... That must suck!).
most nut butters are too sweet imo.
But toasted bread, olive oil and jam really is a winning combo imo.

But you're obviously absolutely free too eat the plastic goo as well. I also have my guilty pleasures...

@LakieLady I have that insulated one from Lakeland. It's very good - especially in summer when I always worry about the butter turning rancid...

I could show you a series of lovely ceramic butter dishes, but they would all look like a pile of shards on the floor. This one, which has no redeeming visual features and which DP despises, could survive the end of the world and present ashes and tears to be spread on the toast of our successors. Every time another attractive replacement hits the floor tiles, That Awful One You Bought comes out of retirement.

This is mine.

I've had it since we got married 24 years ago. Silver wedding next year (cripes!!!) Maybe we need a silver butter dish to mark the occassion?

Mine's Le Creuset, but second hand from a charity shop 😀. I don't have any other Le Creuset - I don't like it as it's too heavy.

And we've been butter only since I did my nutrition degree back in the 80s. I hate the processed yuck they pass off as a substitute

Did you mistake AIBU for chat? Not even an attempt of AIBU to ask you to show me your butter dishes?

Nanoo that’s good to know. I’ve been eyeing up that Lakeland one for ages but some of the reviews made me wonder if it was worth it.

I wonder if anyone in the world actually owns this silver plated one. A mere snip at £499!

Mine is plain white ceramic.

Do people leave their butter dish out? mine lives in the fridge but I feel I may be missing the point of a butter dish by doing that...

Mine is a thing of true beauty. I wanted it for ages and finally bought it a few weeks ago. I can boast about my butter dish in real life because people will think I've finally lost the plot. Grin

Yes, people leave their butter out. I don't know why people think it needs to live in the fridge, in UK temperatures it's fine out of the fridge for at least a fortnight.

So you just put out the amount you'd use in that time - a third or half a block, if you don't use it very quickly.

I would love to have a butter dish but they are either huge or too expensive .

fridgegrazer · 14/10/2019 11:18

I love mine because it goes with my dinner service which I've had for over 35 years but alas weight issues mean I don't have butter now, have to have low fat spread - but not Flora of course!

Grin!
yes, you leave it out you ninny! Butter needs to be at room temperature to spread it. It will keep perfectly fine for weeks at room temp. That's the whole point of a butter dish.
Like some of the others here I have the brilliant Alessi one already mentioned, in a few colours. The 'smoke funnel' is a butter knife, its very lightweight, does not break and goes in the dishwasher.
Its really lovely quality.

Can we also have some threads for people who know the difference between real cream and that Elmlea abomination?

I have the glass cow dish already shown up thread and we too, use it upside down with the lid acting as a plate.

I would love a small butter dish - a quarter size ideally but a half size would be OK - as only 2 of us use butter. Can anyone recommend one?

Report
smemorata · 14/10/2019 11:19

This is mine. Apparently "Alles in butter" means everything is hunkydory or similar! I like it but wish I had got an upside down one as they are easier to use. Until the recent Flora kerfuffle I hadn't realised so many people still actually ate marg! I hadn't seen it for years apart from in vegan households.
