@Scooople does it fit a full par in without trimming?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/10/2019 20:50

I’ve got several lid-less ones too, that met the tiled kitchen floor

Obviously ceramic sisters under the skin to all my lidless teapots, indoorvoice

toast needs to be buttered when it's cooled down so that the butter stays unmelted. THIS IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE!!

Au contraire you dairy-product philistine!

Butter must be applied to red-hot toast, so that melts into the bread producing a delicious soft squidgyness.

This is particularly important if the toast is going to be a vehicle for scrambled eggs.

I have been googling! Who knew there were such beautiful butter dishes!
adds butter dish to Christmas list

Mine is a tacky plastic cow one from Aldi....

ErrolTheDragon · 15/10/2019 21:05

There's always the option of buttering the toast hot and then adding a cold layer after, I suppose.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/10/2019 21:11

That borders on perverted Errol

Or you could simply melt the butter...
I'm not too much of a butter person.
but it's supposed to melt on anything that's warm / toasted.
And there ought to be a cold layer of it's more of a sandwich situation.... At least imo.

(a toast and egg situation shouldn't involve any butter, btw... Wink)

What sort of person are you that you could even think such a thing, Cheese? There's a special place in hell . . .

I probably would be if I actually ate double buttered toast, I was just saying it was a possibility.

I agree with hot buttering being essential for scrambled eggs, but don't mind the inevitable cold buttering of hotel toast for marmalade.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 15/10/2019 21:39

@ErrolTheDragon I think we are sisters under the skin.

Mine is very plain, but I like it. I remember the one SoundofSilence has from my childhood (1970s!). I absolutely love cornberry’s butter dish - it’s beautiful.

I use a small dish like this so I am only keeping a small amount out of the fridge at one time.

I am liking some of the butter dishes here though. I might commit to a full size one.

Can't bear spreads.

You can buy the lovely whale one from the RNLI too if you want to support the lifeboats 😊

DdJames · 15/10/2019 22:30

I do love a butter dish. This is mine! Reminds me of what I'll look like if I eat too much butter.

You all realise some of us may be doxxed on the evidence of our butter dishes...

...except that the consumer frenzy kicked off here will cause all but the most unique dishes to be replicated across numerous households. It's I am Spartacus all over again Grin

Ringsender2 · 15/10/2019 23:19

love @DdJames belly guy - brilliant!

As of today my search for a stunt butter dish commences. Why didn’t I think of it before? Thanks pp with such an item.

borntobequiet · 16/10/2019 05:41

Oh and toast racks avoid the hideousness of soggy toast. The alternative is to balance slices upright slantwise, but they often fall down.

chesterdraws1 · 16/10/2019 05:52

This is mine Smile

Adding butter never even occurred to me, tbh... Grin
