TheChampagneGalop · 15/10/2019 15:52

That's adorable Grambler
I see that toast racks are popular too but what about cheese domes? No mumsnetters with naice cheese domes ?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 15/10/2019 16:48

I like those grooved teeny wooden boards to make butter curls

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/10/2019 17:36

I'm also partial to a coddled egg

Now I want a cuddled egg . . . .

Grambler · 15/10/2019 17:37

I have found two Lurpak Toast racks on ebay. As well as loads of Douglas butter dishes. In fact, one of the refinements ebay has is "Lurpak" Grin

HandsOffMyRights · 15/10/2019 17:40

I have a cheap one, but now that I have ditched those cowboys, Flora, I will be treating the three butter-loving other family members to a new butter dish.

VickyEadieofThigh · 15/10/2019 17:43

I haven't got one but am impressed by all these. I must go and find one for all the butter I'm going to buy.

Ceramique · 15/10/2019 18:00

I am now debating whether to make myself a ceramic one or get DS to carve me one from marble to replace my crappy plastic monstrosity (never occurred to me to make one, despite being a part time potter).

OpheliaBee · 15/10/2019 18:03

Ours is shaped like a cow. It was 50p at a village fete - I was thrilled.

inwood · 15/10/2019 18:07

I have a lovely cow one, was from Sainsbury's, think it was £10

Usingmyindoorvoice · 15/10/2019 18:38

Recently adopted this from my mum

I’ve got several lid-less ones too, that met the tiled kitchen floor 🙁

Willow2017 · 15/10/2019 18:43

Lurking on this thread loving all the butter dishes.😁
Wanted one for years but literally no room to put it in my tiny kitchen before. New house has crap kitchen in a different way but more counter space so definitely on the lookout for one.

Re GP's my ds2 has the money bank got it a few years ago as was the spitting image of one of our GPS.
Love the egg cups but ds2 has banned me from getting them (he is 14 now and too cool for such stuff)😁😁

Way back when God was a boy I worked in a care home when I left school to get experience before nursing. If it was quiet we would help the cook batter the butter into small blocks to soften it with wooden spatulas then use the grooved ones and then curled the Butter to go in little dishes on each dining table. I always loved doing that, so therapeutic.😀

Have to say despite not having room I always looked in charity shops but never found a nice one.😐 must try harder.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 15/10/2019 18:52

The cow is my stunt dish and sits next to the toaster alongside my wooden board which is also for decorative purposes only.
The other one is in daily use, along with my plastic board.

This is mine. It has a separate base in the bottom which can be removed to make it easier to position the new block. It looks like glass, but is actually a plastic.
Don't understand why anyone would ever choose anything other than butter unless they really dislike butter. I've never tastes a spread that is even halfway decent and if I buy a sandwich h out and they don't use butter, I don't go back again. Has to be butter when baking as well. It makes such a difference to the flavour.

So many beautiful dishes, this is what my boring one looks like. It's slightly too small for a 250g block which really annoys me so I've been really hoping someone drops it and I can justify buying a nice new one. So far though it's only bounced.

The best bit about it though is that it was free. A friend won it in a raffle and knew I was looking for this style of dish so just gave me it.

I truly never suspected there were so many butter dishes to choose from. I absolutely loved the one Grambler posted and I was leaning towards it but I saw just in time that it's a mini-dish and that won't do for me at all! So I've splashed out on the first one I linked to. AIBU to be very, very excited about it?

surely you need to butter the toast within 3.5 seconds of coming out of the toaster to ensure superb meltyness

Nope, toast needs to be buttered when it's cooled down so that the butter stays unmelted. THIS IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE!! And you need a toast rack to keep it in while it's cooling down so that you don't get narsty condensation on the side nearest the plate making it all soggy.

wonkylegs · 15/10/2019 19:30

We have 3 - an Alessi boat one in red/orange with purple knife, which is beautiful but you can't fit a standard block of lurpak in, a white round ceramic one, fits a whole block in but you have to cut it up and an ancient SS one that fits butter in with no fuss, I hate it but its indestructible and the least faff so gets used all the time.

Noflora · 15/10/2019 20:15

Allegorical I have the tray with a deep lid style. I see a few here the other way around ( with a shallow lid, deep dish). It never occurred to me to have it this way.
Which way is better? I do find the lid edge gets messy on mine

Ha , this question was mine exactly years ago. The answer I find is a half and half like this'

No mucky lid edges and it is easy to place the block squarely, but not difficult to scrape out remnants (and if it melts the butter is contained).

Now to find a pretty one

This shows it's half-halfness better!

Anthropologie has got a £15 off a £20 spend with code THANKYOU for anyone who was coveting Cornberry's round dish earlier.

nmc99 · 15/10/2019 20:32

This thread has made my night Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 15/10/2019 20:36

I really want the Asda dachshund dish mentioned upthread though I'm not sure I'd keep butter in him.
