to not give the Amazon delivery driver my date of birth?

Amazon just delivered a couple of packages including one for my husband which had alcohol in it. The delivery driver asked me for my date of birth to enter into his handheld device.

I wasn't happy to give it, and said that I was 53 so clearly well over the age of 18. He said he had to put my date of birth into the device, and that he couldn't deliver the package without it.

I offered to show my driving licence but restated that I wasn't happy to have my Date of Birth recorded in the device. I asked what Amazon use the data for and he couldn't tell me, but said someone had been fired for not collecting this information on a delivery.

In the end my husband signed for it, gave his date of birth and is going to contact Amazon to find out more.

WIBU to refuse to sign it, and is this now standard practice?

When I worked for the Co-op the drivers could ask for ID in the same way as if the customer was at the till if the customer looked under 25, although 99% of the home deliveries were for customers 60+. There was specific training for the drivers.

Amazon states on the page when you order booze that you should have ID ready in case they ask. I ordered champagne to be delivered to my mum for Mother's Day and told her to have ID ready just in case they asked, my mum is 69 years old.

It's standard policy for any driver delivering knives, alcohol, chemicals and any other product that requires the buyer to be over 18.
Amazon already know your age but the delivery driver doesn't and needs to know the age of the recipient.
Else a 47 year old could be buying alcohol for a ten year old.

I've been asked everytime for my DOB and they want to see ID. I'm in my 30s

@Evalina

I had no problem with showing my ID as per their terms and conditions. The issue is why my personal data has to be captured and what they plan to do with it.
But you've already given them your date of birth anyway. Unless you gave them a false date at that stage?
