What is it with all the numerous “can you help me with a pregnancy test?” and “line eyes!” threads?

Parenting is much harder than PingOAS and looking for a line. If you can’t manage this, you’ve fallen at the first hurdle.

OP you’re being harsh but you know what I genuinely don’t get. Why people who might struggle with lines don’t get a clear blue that just says “pregnant” “not pregnant”

I think though, most of the time people are testing well before they should and there isn’t enough hcg to form the line properly

The lines are not always 100% clear so if someone has been ttc for years or desperately trying not to be pregnant they could want a second opinion to if it is wishful thinking on their part. So I can fully understand wanting a second opinion.

I had a scare at the beginning of my current relationship 8 years ago. We just bought 6 digital ones as I did not want to faff around trying to guess is the line there or not 😂

Onescaredmuma · 10/10/2019 07:53

I have never posted one but I get why people do. Also with my eye site I couldn't see a faint line even with my glasses so I bought digital tests. Not everyone can afford to go out and spend that kind of money on something you're going to pee on and throw away! My eyesight is not affecting my ability to parent. Don't read the thread if it irritates you and maybe have some compassion for those going through a tough time everyone handles adversity differently some women ask for support. Some (me) sit alone crying on a sofa. You handled it however you handled it but it doesn't mean they or you are wrong.

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 10/10/2019 07:54

Just don’t read the posts as someone else said.

Passthecherrycoke · 10/10/2019 07:54

Also I don’t think it’s related to how you’ll parent. I mean it might indicate you’re a bit useless but it might just as well not

HalfBloodPrincess · 10/10/2019 07:56

Those tests are a lot less sensitive. I didn't get a positive result on mine until 8 days after my period was due, yet a cheap strip test picked it up the day after. Plus they're expensive, around £13 so would be quite a lot of money to keep testing on those

Sobeyondthehills · 10/10/2019 07:58

OTOH, you can’t flap and freak out when you’re in charge of small children.

Of course you can, infact half of it is freaking out you are doing the wrong thing

TottieandMarchpane · 10/10/2019 07:58

Yes, you’re quite right. I was being too sweeping.

I’ll save my ire for the worst of them.

Do you think the propensity to resort to personal abuse in a debate makes you a better or worse parent?

Look in the mirror and tell me Grin

Straycatstrut · 10/10/2019 08:06

I dipped in Hmm when I began TTCing but all the "Baby dust.... sticky bean.... DTD, baby dance, BFP, BFN, 2WW, cervical mucus, AF, cervical plug (with photos) "OH's spunk leaked out" just got waaay too much for me.

The posting up dark lines with "Do you SEE a line I just don't know?!!" wound me right up. Must have annoyed the posters who had been trying forever and seen blank after blank and would have cried over a hint of a line.

ExecutiveFiat · 10/10/2019 08:07

I agree OP. I usually look on active convos, and there is always one of these bloody threads.

Fgs, what is the point of them. How can somebody on the internet tell you if you are pregnant or not.

It’s been many years since I took a pregnancy test, but they were very simple to use then. I imagine they are even more so now!

stucknoue · 10/10/2019 08:08

I don't get the multiple tests or taking them before they are late. I didn't even take a test, I just went to my gp when I was 2 weeks late and was throwing up - saved the cost of a test, really expensive then

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 10/10/2019 08:08

They really get to me too - some of the posters clearly can't read the instructions on the tests and then still ask even though Stevie Wonder could see the second line (actually those ones come across as incredibly smug!)

And the ones who take the tests apart.....doesn't matter how many times you tell them they are invalid if you do that!

If you're not sure wait 12 hours and take another one - better yet wait 24 hours.....

(I have battled/still battling infertility multiple miscarriages and ruptured ectopics by the way!)

I tend to find that the ones who constantly post "line eyes" posts are the ones who have only been trying a couple of months - the rest of us are battle hardened

RunsForGummyBears · 10/10/2019 08:08
Biscuit

I worked in a sexualities health clinic and we would have a few tests a day that we would have multiple people look at because of faint lines. The only difference was unlike home users, we would run a second test with the same urine of we were unsure.

Crystal87 · 10/10/2019 08:09

I don't like the threads where the test is obviously negative but everyone is saying congrats getting the OP's hopes up. But I do get that people who have struggled a long time need to vent to someone or may be in disbelief. With my fourth pregnancy I posted on one of those threads as I tested at 9dpo and got an extremely faint line and didn't know if it was me seeing things.

xJune88 · 10/10/2019 08:13

My baby is 5 months I'd like to think I'm actually a really good mum I asked for opinions on my lines too... after a loss at 7 and 14 weeks and pouring with blood and clots it's hard to believe a healthy pregnancy will come out of it but it did. Was more for support and reassurance.

December2019 · 10/10/2019 08:14

For me seeing those 2 lines was like winning the lottery for years and years I'd convince myself there was something there... I think sometimes you just need someone to tell you your actually going mad!
I like seeing other people's positive updates and you can only imagine their happiness

I don't see how that would affect parenting in a negative way though?

Just don't read them OP if they bother you that much....
I'll have a biscuit though if there are any still going 👍

OMGshefoundmeout · 10/10/2019 08:17

This is a little consciously naive I think. Many parents are flappers and freakers. Personalities don’t miraculously change to become perfectly rational, logical, calm in a crisis types through the miracle of parenthood. Nor do people lose their propensity to be irritable or intolerant of other people’s perceived imperfections.

misspiggy19 · 10/10/2019 08:18

^Thid

Topseyt · 10/10/2019 08:18

Just don't read them if you aren't interested. It isn't compulsory.

You profess to "not get" or not be interested in these things, yet you are interested enough to start your own thread about it.

Many of these people could be desperate and may have struggled long term. Not nice to post a stupid thread criticising them further.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/10/2019 08:26

I think you are being a bit tight op.The people who post their pregnancy tests want some hope, that's the whole point, they want someone to see something that they can/cant.

juliainthedeepwater · 10/10/2019 08:26

I'd rather have a flapper for a parent than a trolly bully.
