To think this M & S assistant was wrong?

I saw a jumper I liked but they didn’t have it in my size. Ordered it to collect next day. Got it home and tried it on..fit fine. So cut off labels . But when I took it off I noticed it had a darker bit ...over each nipple. Tried it back on and this time looked in the mirror...so noticeable!

So went to return it and the assistant said it was just the variation in the material. I said yes but I’m uncomfortable with where it is and I wanted to exchange ( note not refund). She screwed her nose up and said okay “ but next time don’t take the tags off ok.” ! I was so taken aback, but now I regret not saying anything.

Surely it’s not unreasonable to take tags off and then notice a defect? I had all tags , bags and a receipt.

The issue is not that you got an exchange OP, the issue is that you seem to have expected the assistant to pretend to be happy while she did the exchange. She’s not a robot. And you should have thoroughly checked the item before removing the tags.

MrsGrindah · 05/10/2019 21:18

RibrarobSorry I didn’t realise we can only discuss important issues on here.

It’s fine, they can re-attach the label!

PrimalLass · 05/10/2019 21:18

Tough. Every store has clear policy - cut off the tags or wear it and it's yours

Legally no as it had a defect in the fabric.

bridgetreilly · 05/10/2019 21:18

No, she was perfectly correct and you were in the wrong to have decided to return the item after you had removed the price tags. It wasn't faulty, just unflattering. You're supposed to decide that BEFORE you start wearing the garment. They absolutely would have been within their rights to refuse the refund altogether.

The point of my thread is I felt told off for trying to return something that was unwearable because in her opinion it wasn’t faulty and because I’d taken the tags off..despite the fact that I had lot all evidence and returned the same day.

Talk about snowflake...

OrchidInTheSun · 05/10/2019 21:22

It wasn't faulty, it didn't have a defect, the fabric had variations and some happened to fall over the OP's nipples.

You were lucky she allowed you to return it. You should have checked you were completely happy before you took the tags off

Scarydinosaurs · 05/10/2019 21:23

You felt told off, but she didn’t actually tell you off.

You’re being over sensitive. Other places wouldn’t allow you to return.

MrsGrindah · 05/10/2019 21:23

Snowflake? Im hardly crying about it just posting on an Internet forum...

M&S staff are often rude.

AllFourOfThem · 05/10/2019 21:26

So the majority of posters are saying YABU and you are being stroppy because they don’t agree with you? Are you sure your attitude wasn’t the issue rather than the M&S employee?

Surenuff · 05/10/2019 21:27

You're posting about the fact that you felt 'told off' despite getting a full refund. Just about as snowflake as it gets.

NoSauce · 05/10/2019 21:27

Non issue

MrsGrindah · 05/10/2019 21:27

Hardly being stroppy just answering people’s points.

Your getting a tough time on here. I'd have returned it was well

RingtheBells · 05/10/2019 21:30

Stuff sometimes has the tags missing anyway. The top sounded faulty but they sometimes are a bit snooty in there. Next customer service is far better

MrsGrindah · 05/10/2019 21:30

I just couldn’t wear a jumper with two dark marks over the nipples!

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 05/10/2019 21:31

I would not take the tags off an item until I had worn it and washed it at least once.

I think YABU for grousing on here after they took the item back.

MrsEricBana · 05/10/2019 21:32

Yanbu, she shouldn't have told you off when you'd done nothing wrong. I absolutely hate that feeling.

RingtheBells · 05/10/2019 21:32

It just depends who serves you I would have taken it back, tag or no tag

MrsGrindah · 05/10/2019 21:32

How can you wash an item with the tags on?

Sagradafamiliar · 05/10/2019 21:32

She sure told you didn't she, god what a caaaaah
