To think most the UK now wants to remain in the EU

Wales seems to be saying they'd rather be in the EU. Scotland voted remain, as did Northern Ireland, Liverpool, Manchester, London.

Polls recently have showed more for remain than leave now.

Go and research Italy, Greece, bundesbank, Germany, bonds, loans and then please do reassure me.

Cinammoncake · 04/10/2019 21:00

I've seen the 'poor' shafted for about 15 years by the eu and the eu experience.

What, in the UK? No, that's our own government

They care for nothing except this wild mad project that has crippled Greece, crippled Italy... Crippled us

Ummm. Last time I checked, our economy was doing pretty well. We are still in the EU though.

I am not sure you can compare us to Greece or Italy. Have the EU imposed anything on us to give us problems like Greece and Italy?

Frazzled2207 · 04/10/2019 21:00

From a hardcore remainer's POV the whole case for the 2nd ref is IMO the fact that nothing concrete was clear in the first. What did "leave"
Mean in 2016?

There was no talk of No deal, no FTA, borders in Ireland.
Even Boris, Gove, Rees-Mogg etc said that the above would NOT happen.

No deal is a real prospect yet I doubt very much any of the 48 expected that when they voted for it because it was never discussed at the time.
Meanwhile it is perfectly reasonable for any "deal" that Boris gets to be put to the people. And if either that deal or "no deal" got voted for by at least 50% I think even the most moany of remoaners like me would accept it and move on.

Does it reassure you if I remind you that we are not in the Euro?

We aren't in the Euro...so that's handy.

Yes, from recollection it was dismissed as project fear.

WE voted leave - so we should leave
Otherwise every future decision should be able to be overturned

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2019 21:05

I know someone who changed their mind, on both sides, a leader who wishes to remain and a remainer who thinks we should leave. People do change their minds.

I do think any new referendum would be tight, but I don't think we should have one, because quite simply we should not have in the first place. You only have to spend a few mins on here to realise just how much people don't understand it,,,

chomalungma · 04/10/2019 21:05

When you voted Leave, what were your thoughts on the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, the effects on the GFA, the border community and how the GFA could be maintained whilst the UK had its own custom arrangements?

BunchMunch · 04/10/2019 21:06

Mario Draghi made some interesting comments on how he sees the future of the union.
"Given the inherent weakness of national states in a globalised world, what matters is to make the union stronger. In some areas, further integration achieves this goal"

Umm, no thanks. I voted remain but further integration is a definite no from me.

Cinammoncake · 04/10/2019 21:07

It kind of is because we normally have general elections. Imagine if we just had one and that was it. It feels like that but worse.

That's one person's opinion bunchmunch and the fact is we could leave any time if things did change that much in the EU, which there is no evidence they will. That is the true project fear imo, acting out of fear an existing situation, which is currently fine, might get worse one day, so totally self destroying as a country just in case

I think that what's happening in the UK will be food for thought for the rest of the EU and reforms will happen, so as to maybe address some of the issues other countries have with the EU.

27 countries want to work together in Europe. Countries like Norway want to have a close trading relationship with them and are prepared to pay for access.

What is it about the EU that means we don't want to be part of it, even thought the rest of Europe does? What can we see that they can't?

Cleverplayonwords · 04/10/2019 21:13

I'm a remainer but the governments job is to carry out the will of the people.

Cinammoncake · 04/10/2019 21:14

So if the will of the people is now to remain we should do so?

Parliament's job is to do what's best for the country.

Theresa May's deal was not right - either too Remain or too Leave.
No Deal is Too leave for some.

Parliament gets to to decide what version of Brexit is right for the country

ForalltheSaints · 04/10/2019 21:22

If we leave under Mr Johnsin's proposal, every four years the question comes up again, given the Northern Ireland veto. Though we will not leave on that basis.

I am not 100% sure we would vote to Remain in a second referendum, but I would like there to be one, with a clear form of Brexit as the other option.

Snog · 04/10/2019 21:27

I don't think this is true, I think MPs and the media are mostly pro remain which is why we hear a lot of pro remain opinions that claim to be representative.

Cinammoncake · 04/10/2019 21:30

I'd say if anything snog that Boris Johnson and Dominic Cummings have a lot of influence on the media, including the BBC and Daily Mail, Sun, Telegraph etc, which is why he still has the lead he has.

Like I said in the OP, it seems clear at least that Scotland, N.I. Wales, London, Manchester, Liverpool want remain (sorry if I've missed out others)

If people really care and want to remain they will vote Lib Dem in the next election. But I can’t see the Lib Dems coming anywhere close to winning power sadly.

BunchMunch · 04/10/2019 21:32

I thought far more constituencies voted Leave though?

Snog · 04/10/2019 21:35

BBC coverage is heavily pro remain

DeeCeeCherry · 04/10/2019 21:35

I think more people do want to remain and are sick of England arrogantly acting as if its the only country in the UK
