Best Ever Singer?

AIBU to be a nosy caah and ask who you think the best singer the world has ever seen is?

Mine is Freddie Mercury. I've just seen the ad for Amazon music (I think that's what it was) where it's just his voice singing Somebody To Love, music drowned out, and Sweet.Baby.Jesus, it gave me goosebumps. If I didn't have alopecia, my hair would be standing on end, I tell you Grin Wow, could that man sing!

I told DP and he said, "meh, he was alright." Shock

Who are your favourites? And any particular song where they're at their best?

Freddie was so amazing, I agree. There have been so many great singers that I don't think I could narrow it down to just one, and they can be amazing for different reasons, too. This is hard!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 02/10/2019 22:43

Freddie for me too, he could sing anything from rock to opera. Celine Dion also has such a powerful voice, I’ve never really been a fan of hers but I recently heard an old album at my mums and thought wow!

avokado · 02/10/2019 22:54

I love Lana Del Ray. I could listen to her and nothing else for ever more. Oh, and lady gaga singing the A Star is Born soundtrack

PennyNotSoWise · 02/10/2019 22:56

I’ve never really been a fan of hers but I recently heard an old album

I had this recently with Dolly Parton, of all people. I'd always assumed she was a cheesy country singer, but heard a song, can't remember what it was, and thought wow, she really can sing!

Pinkyyy · 02/10/2019 22:59

I think Jennifer Hudson has one of the best voices ever.

Moon108 · 02/10/2019 23:00

Freddie 100 percent. And David Bowie.

chergar · 02/10/2019 23:04

Freddie Mercury had a great voice, I also think Elvis Presley's voice was amazing.

AnyFucker · 02/10/2019 23:06

Karen Carpenter

BloggersBlog · 02/10/2019 23:07

Witney Houston, such a waste of incredible talent

fatulousatforty · 02/10/2019 23:07

Freddie
George Michael

MozzchopsThirty · 02/10/2019 23:07

I can on to say Freddie
Perfect!

Scott Walker

familycourtq Kate Rusby lives near me. I have seen her at the local gym and in Tesco.

I would agree with Freddie Mercury. Brendan Urie did a brilliant version of Bohemian Rhapsody when we saw Panic at the Disco. His voice is not dissimilar to Freddie Mercury's.

Also Sinead O'Connor. Nothing Compares 2 U has got to be one of the best songs sung by a female ever.

I also rate George Michael highly. I saw a progrmme about him recently, and he made singing sound so effortless - a sign of real talent. And don't laugh, but Susan Boyle's version of Wild Horses is utterly beautiful.

5foot5 · 02/10/2019 23:08

I saw the title of this thread and came on to say Freddie Mercury!

Gertie75 · 02/10/2019 23:09

We watched Bohemian Rhapsody the other night and it was fantastic, Freddie had an amazing voice.

I also love Steve Perry, the original singer with Journey, his voice especially in the ballads is beautiful.

For relaxing listening I don't think you can beat Michael Buble.

CocoLoco87 · 02/10/2019 23:11

I might need to don a hard hat for saying this but Ariana Grande has an amazing voice and it sounds effortless. If you watch her on some of the American chat shows where they do singing games, her voice is incredible and she has an amazing range.

Otherwise I think Whitney is up there as one of the greats. Luther Vandross too.

CocoLoco87 · 02/10/2019 23:12

And yes to Michael Buble! I'd forgotten about him. It's nearly his time of year on the radio Grin

AgeLikeWine · 02/10/2019 23:13

Depends on genre.

Pop : Agnatha Faltskog
Soul / RnB : Whitney Houston
Rock : Freddie Mercury
Opera : I’m no expert at all, but Maria Callas would get my uninformed vote.

MustardScreams · 02/10/2019 23:13

Freddie was incredible. His stage presence hasn’t be bettered.

Florence Welch is just mind-blowingly amazing though. Spine tingles and everything.

Drabarni · 02/10/2019 23:14

Callas.

SeamusFinnigan · 02/10/2019 23:16

Callas and Barbra Streisand!

tableanadchairs · 02/10/2019 23:16

100% Freddie

ZenNudist · 02/10/2019 23:21

Mariah Carey
