Best Ever Singer?

AIBU to be a nosy caah and ask who you think the best singer the world has ever seen is?

Mine is Freddie Mercury. I've just seen the ad for Amazon music (I think that's what it was) where it's just his voice singing Somebody To Love, music drowned out, and Sweet.Baby.Jesus, it gave me goosebumps. If I didn't have alopecia, my hair would be standing on end, I tell you Grin Wow, could that man sing!

I told DP and he said, "meh, he was alright." Shock

Who are your favourites? And any particular song where they're at their best?

Another one for Jeff Buckley. His father had a beautiful voice too.

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/10/2019 08:09

Kelly Clarkson. Wonderfully versatile and can pack an emotional punch without all that warbling Mariah Carey does.

Freddie Mercury's voice is amazing, definately my number 1.
Will also say Adam Lambert, I actually prefer his version of 'Marry the Night' in Glee, saying that, I also think Lady Gaga has an amazing voice.
And I will also say Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) he was amazing live, and at the tribute concert they did for him no one could match his voice.

Chris Cornell
Jeff Buckley
Julie Andrews
Freddie Mercury
Christina Aguilera

All had/have a 4 octave range which is pretty rare and all used it to full effect.

Layne Staley had an amazingly powerful voice too and it was beautiful.

Witney Houston, such a waste of incredible talent

I think that whenever Higher Love with Kygo comes on the radio. Her voice was amazing.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2019 08:13

I always think Pink has an amazing voice.

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/10/2019 08:13

Pavarotti
Nat King Cole
Liza Minnelli
Barbra Streisand
Freddie Mercury
Sarah Brightman
Whitney Houston
Idina Menzel
Lady Gaga (when she really sings)

Mines a random group

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/10/2019 08:14

Oh! And

Aretha Franklin
Stevie Nicks
Karen Carpenter

These are not necessarily all my favourites but they’re who I consider to have really good voices.

RiftGibbon · 03/10/2019 08:15

Me, you should hear me in the shower!

RedRec · 03/10/2019 08:15

Neil Diamond
Rod Stewart
Roy Orbison
Feargal Sharkey
Karen Carpenter

Killerqueen9 · 03/10/2019 08:15

I came on to say Freddie. Just love him!!

Lady Gaga also has a stunning voice!

chickensaresafehere · 03/10/2019 08:17

Mmmblowholes beat me to it!
Chris Cornell & Eddie Vedder for me too. Also Nick Cave.

RedRec · 03/10/2019 08:17

... and Dusty Springfield.

secretrugbyfan · 03/10/2019 08:17

George Michael
Andrea Bocelli
Hattie Briggs - If you have never heard of her, look her up
Luther Vandross

Drivemecrazy1974 · 03/10/2019 08:25

In no particular order, because they've all done great, and not so great stuff, George Michael
Agnetha Faltskog
Karen Carpenter
Boy George (Victims is one of the best songs to come out of the 1980s)
Freddie Mercury
Anni-Frid Lyngstad
Dennis DeYoung (Styx - Come Sail Away is a beautiful song)
David Bowie (Absolute Beginners is a favourite)

I envy anybody who can sing, I like to sing, but I can't do it very well!

Drivemecrazy1974 · 03/10/2019 08:29

Oh, one more, Paul Heaton from The Beautiful South - think he's very talented as a songwriter too...

RedRec · 03/10/2019 08:33

Oh yes, another vote for Paul Heaton.

KUGA · 03/10/2019 08:38

Justin Timberlake.
Bruno Mars.
Freddie Mercury.

Ginfordinner · 03/10/2019 08:38

That reminds me, I love Jacqui Abbott's voice as well.

Gracie300 · 03/10/2019 08:41

Liam Gallagher, when at his best, was amazing.

RooKangaroo · 03/10/2019 08:43

Lea Michele (main actor from Glee).

She hasn't really made a singing career work (yet), but her voice is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard.

KatherineJaneway · 03/10/2019 08:43

Very hard as there are so many. For me Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson.

But I also love Prince, George Michael, Freddie, Aretha and Whitney.

A few who are not as famous I love are Peter Cox from Go West, Anita Baker and Taylor Dayne.

KatherineJaneway · 03/10/2019 08:44

Oh not forgetting John Denver!

JaneJeffer · 03/10/2019 08:46

Fergie and Miley Cyrus also really good singers.

SinkGirl · 03/10/2019 08:54

Lea Michele (main actor from Glee).

Have you seen any of the videos from Spring Awakening? Lea Michele, Jonathan Groff, Skylar Astin all brilliant - wish I could have seen it but I’m stuck with YouTube
