Oh I love them, we have the same Christmas one every year that we start in December, then every year we try and complete it quicker than the last year! Then in the new year we start a new puzzle. Only ever do them in the winter though.

Peridot1 · 28/09/2019 21:42

I’m going to get one out tomorrow. So therapeutic.

Gotthetshirt23 · 28/09/2019 21:43

Love jigsaws ! Have done the app ones but can't beat a table covering red wine drinking jigsaw session WineGrin

FurnitureAndBackgammon · 28/09/2019 21:46

Oh my DSis had The Ultimate Alphabet book when we were teens, I was fascinated with it too. I didn't realise there were puzzles of it 😍

Gone2far · 28/09/2019 21:51

A 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, with a ridiculous sentimental rural or harbour scene, and nice robust pieces. Heaven. So relaxing.
I get them from charity shops, and return them when done, if they're complete, otherwise I throw them away.
I start by doing the edge first, but apparently some people finish with it, which seems odd.

Gone2far · 28/09/2019 21:56

I do mine on a framed picture, obviously not on the wall, just a bit bigger than the jigsaw. It'll go on the kitchen table but can be moved somewhere else if I need the table.

TwoleftUggs · 28/09/2019 22:09

Love jigsaws. Only me in the house that enjoys them though so I have a portapuzzle board to pack them out of the way when we need the table cos they take me weeks to do! When I visit my parents for a few days we always try and get a jigsaw done. Especially love a good Christmas one.
If anyone lives near Southport there’s an amazing little jigsaw shop there. Sells second hand ones too.

OldEvilOwl · 28/09/2019 22:18

I no i have never liked them for some reason

Skap · 28/09/2019 22:23

DH and I do them in winter, usually on a spare table. Charity shops are a good source but I have a couple of friends who do swaps with me. I like maps best.

YesILikeItToo · 28/09/2019 22:23

Furniture "S" (the shop) and "P" (the artist's studio) are widely available. I've also seen "B" (the municipal park).

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/09/2019 22:35

I used to do them when I was younger. I always do them upside down.

My family thought I had a screw loose

YesILikeItToo · 28/09/2019 22:41

Someone told me once that competitive solvers doing puzzles in races with pictures of wall to wall grains of rice and suchlike do them literally upside down, oliversmumsarmy They are looking at the back of the pieces, they are only looking at the shapes, so the picture is just a distraction.

MissClareRemembers · 28/09/2019 22:43

I love jigsaws. I’m quite fussy though and usually only do 1000 piece jigsaws of painted scenes. I love city street scenes (eg Paris, London etc). I have a board with folding doors which I stash under the sofa when i need it out of the way.

I never buy new so always buy from charity shops. Or I usually get a couple for Christmas. MIL is also a fan so I’ve borrowed a few from her. I usually give them back to charity shops when completed.

On a rainy day, a jigsaw, enormous cup of tea and radio 4 is utter bliss.

janj2301 · 28/09/2019 22:43

I love Wasgij, so expensive my daughters get them for me from charity shops. Trouble is once I start one i can be up to 2 or 3am

I haven't done a jigsaw in years! They used to be great.

Now I feel like I want one for Christmas.

migmogmash · 28/09/2019 23:21

oh I love a jigsaw, although I unfortunately own a cat who likes to eat the pieces so it's a closely supervised activity these days! Before I discovered his party trick I got to the end of a few puzzles only to discover I couldn't complete them Angry

Notthebradybunch · 28/09/2019 23:31

I love them, helps me relax, almost finished a 1000 piece one, going to let one of my DDs put the last piece in as she helped, I thought I was the only one who enjoyed these!

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 29/09/2019 05:23

I love jigsaws but my husband isn't a fan so I don't do them often. Also doesn't help that the only table large enough is our dining table so
I can't just leave them set up until I finish them. I bought a roly felt mat that is supposed to help, but you still have to pack up and re-sort all the other pieces every day. My sister in law is coming to stay for a week though and she loves jigsaws so hoping we can do one together while she is here.

Dcle · 29/09/2019 06:38

Love them. Great for managing anxiety

Dongdingdong · 29/09/2019 06:40

Honestly I find them incredibly boring. Sorry.

Peridot1 · 29/09/2019 11:17

Don’t be sorry Dongdingdong - world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things!

Dcle - I agree. I found doing Lego great too. But jigsaws are cheaper! I find I tune out and feel really calm when doing jigsaws.

Zippety - I have quite a few trays and I use them to sort pieces on and I leave them on them and can just put them somewhere safe when I tidy the puzzle away. Or some of the jigsaw boards come with separate mats that you can put away with the mat.

RuskBaby · 29/09/2019 11:21

@Zippetydoodahzippetyay hobbycraft have little sorting trays, we use them but others probably do similar too.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 29/09/2019 11:52

@Peridot1 @RuskBaby Thanks for the top about trays. Such a simple but useful idea, can't believe it never occurred to me before haha.
