We had a globe but it kept rolling about and falling to pieces. I was tempted to superglue it together.

LatteLady · 28/09/2019 15:37

I have the Christmas habit. My sister understood this, she sadly died last year. Now I will buy my own!

FurnitureAndBackgammon · 28/09/2019 15:40

I've got a felt roll up mat but it's not very good, a few pieces always come apart when you unroll it.
I'd love a puzzle board but want one that's bigger than for a 1000 pc one. Do they do such things?

Reacher1 · 28/09/2019 15:50

We discovered Barney's Newsbox in Grasmere on holiday this year. It was beyond amazing. I think they have a website
www.jigsawsuk.co.uk

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/09/2019 15:52

I’ve just had a genius idea! We have a huge rug over a wooden floor in the living room! Ha!

Chatt3rb0x · 28/09/2019 16:01

Amazon do boards for 1500 , does that zip up one lie flat? I see some of the reviews say the fabric bunches.

DulciUke · 28/09/2019 16:08

I had to give my puzzles up due to the cats hauling the pieces off. I'd find them half gnawed months later. Fortunately, one of my friends has started doing them, so I can get my fix at her house.

DappledThings · 28/09/2019 16:53

Reacher1 Thank you for that website, it's brilliant. Should keep me stocked for life!

latedecember1963 · 28/09/2019 17:13

Thank you for the website information, Reacher1.

100PercentThatBitch · 28/09/2019 18:09

There are two I've seen that look staggeringly hard a Dalmatians one and a minions one, I like to be challenged but if it's too frustrating it's not therapeutic

percheron67 · 28/09/2019 18:25

I love jigsaws. My Ma used to start a new one every time we had guests and leave it set up for them to do a little whenever they wished. Brought a lot of enjoyment. If I am between puzzles I use Jigsaw Planet.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 28/09/2019 18:30

The kids and I love jigsaws- dp says he hates them but it doesn’t stop him joining in!

SavetheMinden6 · 28/09/2019 18:42

No. I hate them. They are the curse of civilized life and should be banned!

(DW, DM and MIL love the damn things and my world is full of jigsaw boxes and tables of half-made ones!)

EugenesAxe · 28/09/2019 19:00

I love them. I’ve had to curtail them due to their effect on productivity and sleep - I get seriously addicted and tend to only quit when slightly dizzy 😆

Always and without fail, on return to them after such a session, I see all the pieces I was straining to see the time before.

The biggest one I ever did was 2,000 pieces... it took ages. It was good though; I love the fact that after a while your eye starts to discern incredibly slight differences in things like clarity and shade; a piece of sky is from ‘the grainy area’ or ‘the steely area’. It’s like sensory training for adults.

Sewrainbow · 28/09/2019 19:02

I absolutely love them always have, I used to help my dad when younger and throughout my teens and adulthood have done them but don't admit to it much!

I've just bought loads cheap from the works but feel guilty now that I dont really have anywhere to store them and all the money adds up....

lakeswimmer · 28/09/2019 19:42

I also love jigsaws but rarely do them. This thread is inspiring me to take them up this winter - I also live near Grasmere but haven't been in Barneys for years - think I might pay a visit Grin

bellabelly · 28/09/2019 20:19

I love the Ravensburger 1,000 piece jigsaws. I'm in the middle of one that dh bought me from a charity shop last week and really, REALLY hoping that all 1,000 pieces are still there!

WanderleyWagon · 28/09/2019 20:21

I love jigsaws. I have a bunch of them at home, and though I don't have much time to do them (or table space) every now and then I get one out and have a happy meditative couple of hours putting it together.
Also v good for family Christmas bonding with nephews, I have found :)

DanielRicciardosSmile · 28/09/2019 20:32

I used to love them but I haven't done one in ages. I really want to do one now though and I can't because they're all still at my Mum's house. Well except for DS's old Thomas ones, but I can't get excited about 24 pieces!

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 28/09/2019 20:32

We love a jigsaw. We do one every December - it has to be finished by Christmas Eve. Then we swap with my brother and his extended family - we have about six in circulation so by the time one comes back it feels new. 1000 piece Ravensburger puzzles, nothing too samey (so no mass of sky, etc).

OMGshefoundmeout · 28/09/2019 20:36

I use an app called Jigsaw Box and really enjoy it. I especially like doing ones with pictures of places I plan on visiting or have already been to.

sazzle27 · 28/09/2019 21:10

Not a massive fan myself but my gran, who has dementia, loves them!

Maximum we can do is 250 pieces, large-ish pieced ones, and to be honest we are starting a small collection of them 😂

She'll stay up for hours doing them, and while they're great to keep her occupied, she does get awfully distracted going past them and deviates from whatever she was on her way to do!

And of course, I can't help but fix her pieces when i go past, or find one for her.. (I'm not totally heartless and fun sucking 😅)

Thehbomb · 28/09/2019 21:17

Yes, and colouring in !!

YesILikeItToo · 28/09/2019 21:30

I love jigsaws. But not sorting out the edges - when I put them away I put the edge pieces in a plastic bag.

My current family (!) aren’t very keen, so I’ve tried a few 500s, but you get the best choices at 1000 I think. Pomegranate have good ones - I have two from ‘The Ultimate Alphabet’ by Mike Wilks, which was a book I was fascinated by as a child. This is ‘A’ www.trouva.com/products/pomegranate-the-ultimate-alphabet-the-letter-a-jigsaw?currency=GBP&utm_source=googleshoppingUK&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=1347967905&utm_content=58115349281&utm_term=&targeting=pla-436678480319&device=m&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI76bWm6305AIVCLrtCh2x5gsDEAQYASABEgIYv_D_BwE
