I like them. So does the Queen. Apparently the Queen gets a huge 5,000 piece one every Xmas that she puts out for everyone to do over hols. Apparently it it is great for when your family are all together but get fed up talking to each other. Smile

There are a group of youngish ladies in my city who meet monthly for board games and jigsaws.

Wentworth jigsaw puzzles are the absolute best. They are wooden, so the prices don't fray or bend, and they have "whimsy" pieces which are special shapes like a snowflake or a cat or whatever. Quite expensive so I look out for them on ebay and resell when done.

Me! It’s a summer thing for me. Glass of rosé, big table by the pool (holiday home), kids playing or watching telly, DH manning the BBQ. It’s my time to myself. I usually listen to a good podcast on my headphones at the same time. I don’t mind doing the same one several times over: we buy them second hand then pass back to charity eventually. Sometimes my 8yr old will “help” me, and if my dad’s around he’ll take over!

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 28/09/2019 05:13

Online jigsaws are good if you are short of space. I do them at night if I can’t sleep. As mentioned by a PP you can upload your own photos too and turn them into jigsaws. Not the same as the real thing obviously but still satisfying. www.jigidi.com

monkeytennis97 · 28/09/2019 05:25

Off the back of this thread just bought my first 1000 piece one, Christmas themed... Smile

Shoxfordian · 28/09/2019 06:32

My dh and I like doing jigsaws, we listen to a podcast as well. We usually buy them from the charity shop, do the puzzle then give it back to the shop.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 28/09/2019 06:38

Yes, yes, yes! Although I’m in in between accommodation and don’t have a big table to do them on. I really love doing a massive one or two in winter. Especially over Xmas. So soothing and satisfying.

Systemagic · 28/09/2019 06:46

My husband and I love them too. Started when we were in a holiday cottage a few years ago....I idly started doing one, he joined me and from that point we were hooked.

I have a stressy job and a lot going on in my life at the mo - jigsaws calm me right down and stop all the noise in my head. We put some calm music on and chat a bit too. It's a nice time spent together with no tv or phone screens for distraction.

SecretMillionaire · 28/09/2019 06:46

I absolutely love a little quiet time doing a jigsaw. It’s so relaxing.

tommyshaircut · 28/09/2019 06:59

Love them. I do them on my kindle too, doesn't take up so much room !

Shebertherbert · 28/09/2019 06:59

I didn't realise jigsaws were so popular. I have been given several over the years for birthday and christmas gifts. I have never opened any and they sit collecting dust on top of the wardrobe. I am obviously missing out. You all paint such lovely cosey images. A bottle if wine box of chocs, music and a puzzle sounds great. I really think I will give it a go this winter.

Buddytheelf85 · 28/09/2019 07:03

My husband loves them! Personally I don’t have the patience.

DappledThings · 28/09/2019 07:07

Always have them on the go. But I'm very picky about which ones I like. MIL has bought me two for the last two Christmases that have gone straight to the charity shop. Inonly like painting ones and certain types of scenes. Just finished a nice Monet one.

I have a roll up mat, but never roll it up. It just destroys the jigsaw and you have to spend ages repairing it before you can carry on.

Shadenevermadeanybodylessgay · 28/09/2019 10:11

I'm 26 and I love them!
Just got myself a jigsaw board. Trying out some 3d ones soon too

mogtheexcellent · 28/09/2019 10:14

My local village has a jigsaw library. Its fab. I dont have time or space for jigsaws on a more regular basis sadly.

Therealjudgejudy · 28/09/2019 10:19

Love them. Have the app and do them on my iPad. So relaxing!

Blueemeraldagain · 28/09/2019 10:20

I enjoy them and buy quite a few through work. I teach at a school for boys with social emotional and mental health difficulties and we do jigsaws in the library in the afternoons sometimes. I think the PP was bang on with it being just the right level of mental engagement.

We use puzzle glue to stick them together and back them with cardboard to hang on the wall in the library.

Zippyzoppy · 28/09/2019 10:20

OMG, I've found my tribe!!

I'm a relatively new convert, having been given one by a friend. I tend to do the 1000 piece ravensburger ones. I've bought quite a few so can anyone recommend other ones from a different company that are as good? I most like the fantasy type ones. My favourite of all so far is this one

www.ravensburger.org/uk/products/puzzles/adult-puzzles/the-fantasy-bookshop-1000pc-19799/index.html

Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Whathappenedtothelego · 28/09/2019 10:24

I love them, as does Dd. Great for doing alone with the radio or an audio book, or as a group activity.

I like to get them from the charity shop, usually break them up and keep them after they're built to do again sometime.
I like 1000 pieces, but Dd likes 500 so we can finish in one sitting.

MorrisZapp · 28/09/2019 10:27

Jigsaws are life!

I like maps, graphics, florals and bookshelves. 500 for fun or 1000 to really piss DP off. None of my 1000s are fully intact. I lose a peice or two each year.

I'm known in our family as a deviant because I don't start with the edges. I start with the boldest colour then the next boldest.

I have the absolutely perfect big white coffee table for jigsawing. Something I find amazing is that when I'm doing it in the evening and finding at a bit tricky, I can come back through in the morning and the peices magically present themselves.

I've tried to recreate daylight by using a head torch but DP and DS were outraged.

SerenDippitty · 28/09/2019 10:28

We do cottage holidays a lot and I always take a 500 piece puzzle with me.

I’ve used a roll in the past but they are dependent on having a rigid surface to put them on, or doing them on the floor and my knees aren’t what they used to be. The Works do a Portapuzzle type board for £20 which is rigid enough to hold on your lap and it comes with two rigid pads which are the right size for 500 piece puzzles. They have a great selection of puzzles too.
