Yes! DH and I like them too - we have a bit of a collection. It's a winter activity though, on the dining room table. Sometimes we have to rush to finish one if we have guests round and need to eat at the table.

Musereader · 28/09/2019 10:39

Ohh, i love jigsaws i have about 30 stacked up on top of my wardrobe. I have 9 i haven't done.

Unfortunately i got unexpectedly pregnant with 3yo DD and since she has been born i haven't done any. Which is a shame because i ordered a set of 4 Anne Stokes dragon ones from new zealand at great expense (over £100) before i got pregnant and had no sooner opened one of them when ex started taking over my life to the point it had been out 6 months undone and we had to move.

I am just waiting for the day i can get it out and DD wouldn't mess with it.

Like others i used to do them over christmas and new year.

I once had a 'tennis' injury in my shoulder from being on hands and knees over the jigsaw to get a better look at the pieces in the night with a lamp over it.

Patte · 28/09/2019 10:41

I love them. Don't have any time or space in the house for one right now but when we get our own place hopefully there'll be somewhere where a table to the side can be put for an ongoing jigsaw where you can do a couple of bits each time you pass.

Fizzypoo · 28/09/2019 10:42

Yes! I love a jigsaw!

Anytime of the year for me but it's much cosier in winter with cheese and wine.

I usually take over the dining table for weeks at a time as I'm too busy to complete quickly. I also like getting up on a weekend morning whilst everyones still asleep and jig sawing in my pyjamas with coffee and croissants.

MulticolourMophead · 28/09/2019 10:45

I did jigsawa a long time ago, then DC happened and I've never had the space since. Maybe a good rollup mat would help.

Meanwhile, I recently downloaded an app to my tablet and while it's not quite the same, it's still very relaxing last thing at night.

My go-to pictures tended to be fantasy art type stuff.

ElspethFlashman · 28/09/2019 10:45

I really want to find a good app, all the ones I've tried so far have been horrible and have hardly any free ones.

Anyone found a good one?

GenderIsNothing · 28/09/2019 10:48

I absolutely love them. I have a whole system for doing them. I pick out all the edges and put them in a pile, then I group the pieces by colour and put them in piles then I get the edges put together, then work my way through.

I'm going to have to buy a new one today.

Musereader · 28/09/2019 10:49

The thing about jigsaws is i am not a very visual person and generally just glance at pictures, but doing a jigsaw makes you focus on tiny details in the picture and see things i would have missed in that glance and makes me appreciate the art a lot more.

BWOB · 28/09/2019 10:50

Love jigsaws - to the enxtentthat this in all my DCs get me for Christmas/birthday

This was a game-changer though. Once zipped up you can slot your unfinished jigsaw upright behind the sofa until next time.

Yes we usually have a 1000piecer on the go on a board balanced across the armchair for quick shift to the next room when the 3year old grandson visits. We've had good holiday pics made into jigsaws. The really good ones we redo, others go on Ebay or back to the charity shop. I also had to confess to a physio that my sore shoulder was jigsaw-related from not changing posture for ages, she was bemused.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 28/09/2019 10:52

The DH and I do them in the winter! I find it very mentally relaxing. Sometimes the 9 year old will join in. We have it on a felt base which you can roll away round a tube, so it doesn't take up any space.

Shebertherbert · 28/09/2019 10:53

Inspired by this thread I brought that very board and a jigsaw this morning.

incogKNEEto · 28/09/2019 10:54

I do! We usually have a jigsaw on the go from September-ish onwards! We have a fold up mat that lives under the sofa so we can clear it away between sessions.

I buy them from our local charity shop for a couple of pounds and once we have done them I donate them back to the shop for someone else to enjoy Smile.

Another jigsaw fan here. I'm part of a team that organises an annual jigsaw festival so I have the perfect excuse to indulge myself.

My almost 87 year old MiL is a lifelong jigsaw enthusiast and tells everyone that that, as well as her daily cryptic crossword and sudoku puzzles, have kept her brain sharp.

dun1urkin · 28/09/2019 11:00

I’m a big fan, also enjoy the wasjig ones.
Unfortunately I also have a jigsaw loving cat who jumps up and joins in.
One of our previous cats was also obsessed, seems I’m never going to be able to jig without feline help.... Grin

KUGA · 28/09/2019 11:05

I love them and got my Grandchildren into them too.
Very therapeutic.

Caribbeanescape · 28/09/2019 11:10

I love jigsaws, always have! I used to do them with my grandmother when I was a child.

I like the 1000 piece ones best, something with an interesting picture, not too much sea or sky. I only really do them at Christmas, as I get addicted and don't want to do anything else. Grin

I bought some cheap ones from The Works, but all had a few pieces missing, and some had duplicate pieces! I don't buy cheap ones any more, it's too frustrating.

Maykid · 28/09/2019 11:17

My collection, mostly 500 pieces

for wondering if anyone else enjoys jigsaws?
Davros · 28/09/2019 11:52

Just ordered one, inspired by this thread

Rinoachicken · 28/09/2019 11:57

I love jigsaws, especially the wasjig ones - but then my then toddler DS2 ‘helpfully’ tipped the contents of one jigsaw box in with another! 2000 pieces of mixed up jigsaw!! I’ve not had the patience to even try and sort that mess out yet, just dumped it all in a carrier bag! 🤣

lidoshuffle · 28/09/2019 11:57

I used to love doing one after studying/exams. It's like it got the other side of my brain, the visual/creative part, working after the logical/numerative side had been working overtime.

latedecember1963 · 28/09/2019 11:58

Maykid, I love your jigsaw cupboard. I've just shown it to DH and suggested I could have something similar in DS1's old room now he's moved out.

alittleprivacy · 28/09/2019 12:08

Last year my mum and I did a 500 piece Christmas jigsaw in early November. Then we broke it into 24 sections of 20-25 pieces and put those, in order into an advent calendar, with the less exciting section on the first day, building up to Santa's face on Christmas eve. DS who was just turned 6 had a great time putting a section together every day. This year we have a 1000pcs Snowman and Snowdog jigsaw to do in the same way.

ineedaholidaynow · 28/09/2019 12:32

alittleprivacy that is a brilliant idea. Might have to steal that!

Maykid love your cupboard. We need one of those, but then we also need a similar cupboard for all the board games, lego and craft stuff we accumulate in this house. Instead we just have piles of stuff everywhere

OkayGo · 28/09/2019 12:48

I love them. I did a 6000 piece one last year. Can’t wait to do a Christmas one!
