Please be specific.

Bloomburger?

What did they vote for? I voted for Labour.

In their manifesto they specifically said 'We will reject No Deal'.

Bloomburger · 27/09/2019 08:10

By refusing No Deal as an option you lose all bargaining power to get a deal.

Sunshine93 · 27/09/2019 08:16

This is a myth. No deal is worse for us than the EU. It's like saying if you won't bring the price down I will shoot myself in the foot the. Walk away slowly and leave blood on your carpet. Haha! There might be blood on the carpet of the EU but carpets can be cleaned or replaced we will have that injury forever. The EU knows this.

Graphista · 27/09/2019 08:18

Good grief the utter NONSENSE being spouted on this thread!

"Freedom of the press is how we keep our governments in check. It would be under threat." We don't have a free press now! It's very much monopolised by a few VERY wealthy white men!

Re GRA a op mentioned we "already" have rapists in women's prisons etc - YES! Under a TORY GOVT! If you think the tories will afford women decent rights & protections you're deluded!

Right to buy private tenancy - my understanding is that's only IF the landlord is selling and at market rate tenants get first refusal.

A 32 hour working week would give people a better work/life balance and mean that the work there is will be shared around meaning more people in work. I believe France has a similar setup? Similar arguments were made against nmw which the "disaster" predicted didn't come to fruition.

Property/land hoarding DOES need dealt with, they're not talking about taking homes off people in hospital don't be ridiculous! They're talking about houses bought purely as investment and left sitting idle and deteriorating when we have a HOUSING CRISIS!

"Sorry but almost all of these objections are ones which demonstrate selfishness and privilege." Totally agree!

"Labour governments tend to raise tax and the national defeceit, then conservative come along and get shouted at for trying to rein in the purse strings."

"The country can't afford the Labour Party to wreck the economy again."

The complete MYTH of tories being better for the economy has LONG been disproved!

"What’s the point in working hard if the state is just going to take it off you?" Perfect example actually of the unconscious privilege mentioned! Do you really think people on nmw don't work hard?! And therefore don't deserve to be treated accordingly?

"If he keeps his promises of more money for the NHS, schools, more SEN provision for children, free university courses, abolishes universal credit & the disgusting assessments for ESA & PIP & increases the NMW to £10 per hour then bring it on, even if he only manages half of that it would improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people & thousands of families." Here here!!

"Labour is a communist party now" is it fuck!! It may seem very left wing because the tories are so far right but it's really just a bit left of centre.

"Like labour left the ‘ha ha there’s no money left’ note last time there was a change in party at top?" That was a long standing "in joke" that the tories tried (and succeeded with you at least) in using to FOOL people they are "better for the economy" - is the economy doing particularly well now?! Is it FUCK!

bellinisurge · 27/09/2019 08:19

If I hold a gun to my foot and say "do what I want or I'll shoot myself in the foot"- you mean that kind of negotiating. The people nearby might get disturbed by my yelling and might even get some of my gunk on their shoes. Not exactly negotiating, is it.

Tippety · 27/09/2019 08:22

*Bloomburger

By refusing No Deal as an option you lose all bargaining power to get a deal.*

Absolutely correct. Anyone who has ever worked on a negotiation knows this.

Writersblock2 · 27/09/2019 08:26

@Graphista - I don’t think the Tories will give better rights to women either! I wouldn’t vote for ANY of the main three parties right now.

withernseawoes · 27/09/2019 08:28

Confiscation of private property, crushing taxes, abolition of private education, end of immigration controls, general incompetence of Corbyn, Abbott, etc. Labour would be a historic disaster.

Completely agree with this.

Kazzyhoward · 27/09/2019 08:30

No deal is worse for us than the EU.

Countries like Germany who export a lot to the UK are shitting themselves. There've already been high level talks between German car makers, German Govt and the EU about the devastating effect on the German economy if one of the their main export markets, the UK, buy less of their cars!

Nefelibata86 · 27/09/2019 08:33

Many disappointing answers here despite the op asking for specifics. Answering with a name or just saying that certain individuals don't seem statesmanlike is so shallow and has nothing to do with their credentials as potential leader. There are some that say the general public shouldn't have been trusted with the brexit vote and responses like this make me see why.

bellinisurge · 27/09/2019 08:40

@Kazzyhoward , I don't think they are shitting themselves like we should be. While it might be a bit shitty for German exports in the short term, they don't have a German version of Yellowhammer. And if they do, I doubt it says the poorest will suffer and there's little we can do to stop it.

Livelovebehappy · 27/09/2019 08:41

I don’t think people need to elaborate beyond ‘Jeremy Corbyn’ do they? I would vote Labour but definitely not a Labour Government lead by Corbyn. He doesn’t have a clue and just stumbles on never really having strong opinions on anything.

redappleandaquamarinebow1987 · 27/09/2019 08:43

For me mainly it is his policies on edication as I do want children one day. His idea of removing choice from hard working people by shutting down private schools or at the very least removing their charitable status meaning the smaller ones that are actually more affordable get shut down.

Also the removal of ofsted. That does not mean there won't be any shit schools it just means parents have little way of knowing or doing research before their child ends up in that school.

The policies he is suggesting are lunacy that will drag the top students down by 20% of their full potential just so the middle can achive an extra 1% more.

Also it has been estimated if private schools are shut down the extra staff and facilities that now have to be paid for by the state would add up to an extra 7 million. With the school budget as it is where exactly is this money going to come from????

BertrandRussell · 27/09/2019 08:46

I am not a Corbyn fan. But I will still vote Labour-because their policies are the ones that come nearest to matching my beliefs. I don’t believe in cutting taxes for the better off at the expense of the poor, for example. I see no problem with an increase in corporation tax. I believe those are both areas where a bit of redistribution will do no harm at all.

bellinisurge · 27/09/2019 08:46

I'm not a Meatloaf Anti-No Dealer. If voting for the hated Corbyn led Labour is the only way to stop No Deal, I will do it.

BertrandRussell · 27/09/2019 08:47

“The policies he is suggesting are lunacy that will drag the top students down by 20% of their full potential just so the middle can achive an extra 1% more.“
What does this mean?

Catmint · 27/09/2019 08:51

The risk to women's sexed based rights, services and spaces.
All women shortlists having men on them.
Ineffective investigation and consequences of antisemitism.

I feel really queasy about the way the party is so fractured. This would consequently impact on the govt's ability to effectively make and enact decisions.

redappleandaquamarinebow1987 · 27/09/2019 08:56

@BertrandRussell for example in public schools they might not provide as challenging of work as the top students ought to get. My local primary in it's ofsted stated top students are held back by being given work too easy for them and I am pretty sure this is the case with a lot of schools. I worked at a nursery and saw myself that the good quiet and bright children that should be encouraged are instead ignored because of just trying to control the more difficult children. Once you move on into secondary these children have to be in a less then ideal setting where many children are not motivated to learn. Yes the rest of the class some might benefit a little and maybe do 5-10% better on an exam because of their brighter classmates but these top classmates lost out on having a beyond standard education for this to happen and not reaching their full potential.

BertrandRussell · 27/09/2019 08:59

So basically you think private school should continue to exist because you think they benefit a tiny group of rich clever children. Right.

Incidentally, where do your %ages come from?

Bloomburger · 27/09/2019 08:59

Us leaving full stop is worse for Germany as they'll be the ones along with a few others who will be called on to plug the financial gap. Then they'll start realising (although I think they have but are too bloody minded to admit it) that they'd be better financially off out too along with about 4 or 5 other countries.

Why do you guys think No Deal is worse then the utter shit show that will be another Labour run government or the crap that will rain down on us when the EU finally implodes?

redappleandaquamarinebow1987 · 27/09/2019 09:03

@BertrandRussell funnily enough if I need to have someone do surgery on me or need to represent me in court I would prefer if they have reached full potential. The % come from being in an environment that encourages learning, smaller class sizes, parents that value education, pastoral care, and school clubs that are at the current stage unaffordable on the budget public schools have to work with

OneSliceIsNeverEnough · 27/09/2019 09:11

i would love to see support and education for families to help them support and inspire their own kids. Well vote labour then because they have great plans to improve and revitalise sure start.

Sunshine can you be specific?

Well behaved kids sitting next to less well behaved kids doesn't equal fantastic learning all round.

catdoctor · 27/09/2019 09:28

Thank you to all those who have given specifics; there is a lot there to mull on.
Currently I fall in the 5 years of Corbyn is less bad than No Deal camp.

“@BertrandRussell funnily enough if I need to have someone do surgery on me or need to represent me in court I would prefer if they have reached full potential.“
So would I. What’s that for rondo with private schools?

And I take from that that you made up your figures.

redappleandaquamarinebow1987 · 27/09/2019 10:11

@BertrandRussell what it has to do with public school is that in a public school the brightest are held back by not being given appropriate attention or material to work on during class to fit their potential
