To wear doc Martens?

Christmaspanic24 · 26/09/2019 14:13

I'm 37, a mum of 3 with a profession job.
I've just bought a pair of the patent black 8 eye.

Is it a bit tragic, mutton dressed as lamb? Or fashionable freedom?
YABU - mutton dressed as lamb
YaNBU - go for it

Yanbu- and fuck the haters 😎

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 26/09/2019 14:20

I’m also 37 and have worn DMs for 25 years. I see no reason to stop. In fact, I’ve been wearing them this week as it’s been raining and I’ve had lovely dry feet Grin

ReapersHowler · 26/09/2019 14:20

YANBU I rock my patent red 8 holes on the school run most days and get complimented on them quite often. I'm 33 and they match my hair. Grin

FunkyKingston · 26/09/2019 14:23

I've worn DMs since I was 14 and I'm 39 now. Both shoes and boots, it's a style classic and the opposite of mutton dressed as lamb.

confusedandemployed · 26/09/2019 14:24

I'm 46, just got myself a banging pair of thick-soled silver glitter ones. You crack on girl.

Christmaspanic24 · 26/09/2019 14:33

Amazing! Just what I wanted to hear!

I first wore DMs when I was 14 too, had a pair of cherry red beauties!

My 55 year old mother wears DMs most days! I would too if I could afford them 😂

HoneyBee03 · 26/09/2019 14:44

Wear them!! They're so incredibly comfortable, go with most outfits and they last for years. I love wearing my black pair at the weekend when it's chilly and I save my glittery rainbow pair for dancing

LucyAutumn · 26/09/2019 14:51

I love DM's, go for it and ignore comments from others. Although beware that DM's are the kind of shoe that are softened only by the blood and tears of the wearer Wink

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 26/09/2019 14:54

Don’t be daft.

I still wear mine occasionally, I bought them years ago. Well, decades to be precise.

mokapot · 26/09/2019 14:57

I love my dms

Got my first pair at 40

I’m
More tragic than you!! Grin

fantasmasgoria1 · 26/09/2019 15:05

What's with all the worries people have over what they wear, worryingly about their age and whether something will look too young for them. You wear what you want I am 44 and wear docs, new rocks, irregular choice and any other shoes I like. Same for clothes, I'm always gothed up. So long as what I wear suits me it's fine. So yanbu.

Kittenbittenmitten · 26/09/2019 15:11

YANBU. I got my first pair laat year. I'm 30 next year. I'm a complete convert, they're amazing and while they are popular amongst the yoof, I think they look fine on most people. Have seen people in their 50s and 60s wear them and I don't think much of it.

Kittenbittenmitten · 26/09/2019 15:12

Sorry that sounds like I'm judging them negatively. I mean I don't think anything of seeing older people in DMs

RezCowgirl · 26/09/2019 15:21

She doesn't look too old to be wearing doc martens, not even at the age of 80

To wear doc Martens?
Twixes · 26/09/2019 15:27

I just bought a pair and I'm a 38 year old mum of two, I love them! I'm also in a professional job and I plan on wearing them with dresses and opaque tights. Last time I had DMs was nearly 25 years ago!

Wrybread · 26/09/2019 15:33

YABU because Solovair (who made the docs until the mid 90's) are even better Grin

Solovair boots have replacement soles, and their soles seem to last longer too.

I did love docs until I got some solovair ones, though.

FrenchJunebug · 26/09/2019 15:39

I'm 51, a mum and a professional woman and I wear doc martens. They are nice and comfortable.

Gilead · 26/09/2019 15:42

I have far too many pairs of docs. I wear them. I'm almost 61.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/09/2019 15:45

I got some when I was 40. I was an Early Years teacher and outside a lot, they completely stopped me getting chilblains.

Miljah · 26/09/2019 15:48

I don't think they're suitable for all occasions, and I steer clear of them, at 56 because I think they can make certain body types (mine!) look a bit butch and 'try hard'; but if someone feels they can carry it off, and feel good about themselves, go for it I say!

mum11970 · 26/09/2019 15:52

I’m 49 and have 14 holers, sandals and three pairs of shoes.

Sweetbabycheezits · 26/09/2019 15:53

I'm 10 years older and have 4 pairs of DMs! If I have to be middle aged in sensible shoes, then they're going to be bad ass sensible shoes!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/09/2019 15:53

I have 8 pairs (I'm 29) and I will be wearing them forever! YANBU.

swampytiggaa · 26/09/2019 15:55

I’m 50 and I have 5 pairs 🙂 my teenagers regularly steal mine as we have the same size feet 🙂
