To wear doc Martens?

Christmaspanic24 · 26/09/2019 14:13

I'm 37, a mum of 3 with a profession job.
I've just bought a pair of the patent black 8 eye.

Is it a bit tragic, mutton dressed as lamb? Or fashionable freedom?
YABU - mutton dressed as lamb
YaNBU - go for it

Go for it!

I wish more people were unafraid of how others regarded their clothing.

Saucery · 26/09/2019 15:59

Been wearing DMs since I was 14 and no intention of stopping into my 50s and beyond!
Have no Originals atm but do have a lovely pair of Triumphs, 2 pairs of Charlas for work, some Mary Jane style shoes and fancy patent Darcie Divas for going out in.

Go for it!

Hungryhippo01 · 26/09/2019 16:01

I bought the same boots last winter, breaking them in is a skill I am yet to master. Good luck.

freddiochangio · 26/09/2019 16:03

Go for it! I got married wearing mine last weekend!

2beautifulbabs · 26/09/2019 16:06

I'm 32 and have three pairs of dr martens go for it and sod what anyone else's thinks I also wear Van trainers so really don't care what others see me as I'm happy and comfy wearing what I like 🤣

SmallPinkBear · 26/09/2019 16:07

They are a classic. I remember having purple 8 hole ones in the 90s when I was about 14!

Jackiesathome · 26/09/2019 16:08

Go for it! why not ay

2beautifulbabs · 26/09/2019 16:08

Oh and also a mum of two myself wear what makes you happy not others 😃

MashedSpud · 26/09/2019 16:09

Go for it. I think they really suit women tbh.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 26/09/2019 16:09

I'm 31 and have always wanted a pair of these, but I have no idea what to wear that will go with them?!

BumbleBeee69 · 26/09/2019 16:10

I wear black patent ones, I never knew there was an age limit Shock

Blueberryblueberry · 26/09/2019 16:10

Yanbu- I too am late 30s, children, professional job and I love my docs. They are basically amazing, practical, comfy, go with everything...

Blueberryblueberry · 26/09/2019 16:11

Also agree with a pp re: having bad ass sensible shoes Grin

ThirstyGhost · 26/09/2019 16:15

The more folk who wear what they want the more the utter drivel about, "things not to wear over 35" and "hairstyles for the over 40s" will hopefully eventually disappear. Hurrah for you and yer boots!

CrowleysBentley · 26/09/2019 16:16

I'm 43 and I live in DMs, Vans or Converse. I know lots of women my age and older that wear DMs and look reat in them. They are comfortable and they go with anything, and they wear well too (which is good for me because I walk loads and I am really bloody heavy on shoes for some reason).

I have a few pairs of DMs, my lovely comfy knee length patent lace ups that I wear loads in the winter have come out of the cupboard this week.

MrsMonkeyBear · 26/09/2019 16:16

I don my bright pink DMs all the time. I love them. Comfy, practical and add a splash of colour to most outfits.

HomeEdRocks18 · 26/09/2019 16:17

I'm 37 and have patent pink dms

CrowleysBentley · 26/09/2019 16:18

I lost a g there, should say look great in them.

baffledbystbxh · 26/09/2019 16:18

I've been wearing them since I was 14 and still am in my 40s, I have 5 pairs and will love them forever!

ElspethFlashman · 26/09/2019 16:20

Wrybread thank you! I was racking my brains trying to think of "the other DM brand"

Solovair!!!

NbyNW · 26/09/2019 16:20

@confusedandemployed's advice of You crack on girl is really all the advice you need. Good for you OP

dottiedodah · 26/09/2019 16:28

I think you should wear whatever you want! my friend in her 50s wears them , looks great! .

billy1966 · 26/09/2019 16:31

They are an absolute classic and look great at any age.

shiningstar2 · 26/09/2019 16:41

I am 67 and would love to have my first pair of doc martin boots. The only thing putting me off is people saying they need 'breaking in'. I have heard this before about doc martins and I am definitely a comfort freak. Can anyone on this thread reassure me that they don't need much breaking in or should I steer clear. Oh and op ...definitely go for it. The fashion police where a real thing back in the day but what's good about now is that the look you feel most comfortable with is definitely the best look for you ...at any age.

x2boys · 26/09/2019 16:43

I haven't had a pair for years as they are so expensive these days ,but I used to love my Doc,s particularly my purple velvet ones .
