I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

Hi Aussies! I'm up for chats too! I've been in Sydney for 7 years, now, the time seems to have flown by!

HennyPennyHorror · 25/09/2019 02:25

Catgee did you come out with your family or on your own? Are you staying? How'd you like it? I have to say, after a few misgivings, I can't imagine ever not wanting to live here now.

My DC are 15 and 12 and they love it too..it's home now.

I'm in, I'm SOR in Perth. We got here in 2013, and I just got my citizenship approved, just waiting for a ceremony now. We love it here, wouldn't to back to Blighty or Ireland for all the tea in China!

HennyPennyHorror · 25/09/2019 02:47

Crashing hooray for the citezenships! Yours took even longer than mine! I first applied in 2015. So it's been 4 years...

Hi I’m on the central coast NSW. It’s warm and sunny and I’m just lazing in the garden for a bit, in the shade.

Koalablue · 25/09/2019 03:30

I'm also in Perth.
Congrats on the citizenship guys. I got mine over 35 years ago. Back then everyone got given a bible and the women got flowers. Now I think it's just a certificate.

DexyMidnight · 25/09/2019 03:42

canihaveacoffeeplease · 25/09/2019 03:45

Hi from the Adelaide Hills, beautiful day here! Wow I can't believe it's taken 4 years to get citizenship, that's crazy! We can't apply for another 3 years but will be as soon as we can.

MeganTheVegan · 25/09/2019 03:45

We're also in Sydney.

TwoShades1 · 25/09/2019 03:45

I’m aussie (actually born here) but all English family that moved out here in the 80s. I live in Victoria.

squeekums · 25/09/2019 03:46

Hello from sunny Brisbane! We’ve been here 38 years this year but are still only permanent residents. Not really sure why we haven’t gone that final step yet! Must pull our finger out!

snitzelvoncrumb · 25/09/2019 04:29

Hello from Adelaide

MinervaVause · 25/09/2019 04:30

In NZ here but we fly to Brisbane in January.

This will be our 2nd move to a new country, the first being UK-NZ.

Dh’s company have asked him to transfer over so we’re slowly sorting out shit out to get over.

Currently trying to work out schools. As far as I can tell, Ds1 will have finished year 5 year and go into year 6 there and ds2 will have finished year 4 here and go back into year 4 there.

My company is Aussie too so hoping for a transfer also to make things easier.

Hello from Melbourne!

MaitlandGirl · 25/09/2019 04:45

I’ve been here nearly 10yrs (Hunter Valley, NSW) and love it. The distance to the uk can be quite daunting but I speak to my mum at least once a week for a few hours which helps.

I got citizenship in 2016 with DD2 and DD1 got her this year. DS isn’t bothered and DW is Australian.

HennyPennyHorror · 25/09/2019 04:47

Coffee I had an 820 visa due to DH being Aussie. Now I've an 801...which means I'm completed...I can get Citezenship. It was a long process though!

Strange I feel like I MUST get citezenship asap for some reason. Just makes me nervous having a different nationality to my DC! They're Aussie by descent. DH is so thrilled....he did a dance when I got the email. :D

Maitland aren't your children automatically Australian if one parent is Aussie? I mean they could get Aussie passports right away surely?

Squeek it IS more exciting isn't it! I think life;s a bit too laid back here..there's nothing that gets people very wound up!

HELLO!

Husband and I are PR... children citizens.

Lived in Perth, subi. Now living in Surrey .

Really missing it! Especially as winter is around the corner.

Hoping to move back in another two years... and looking forward to warm weather almost year round!

HennyPennyHorror · 25/09/2019 04:52

Pink hi! What's PR? Past residents?

North side of Brisbane here - hi all!

Australian citizen with my UK husband waiting on his citizenship invitation...

SnowsInWater · 25/09/2019 05:14

PR is permanent residence. That's the visa we came to Sydney on 12 years ago, we got citizenship as soon as we could. My kids are now very grateful that I insisted on them having Irish passports when they were born (all in Brighton) so they now have Aussie and Irish. So glad it's finally warming up, I have acclimatised!
