To think the dry cleaners lent out my shoes?!

Finally got round, two years later, to dropping my wedding shoes at the dry cleaners to be cleaned. Not sure if relevant to the story but they are a fancy pants designer shoe (for context, nice and only worn once by me on wedding day). Bit marked so wanted them cleaned. This was 6 weeks ago and I forgot to go and get them. Went in today and the guy looked extremely bloody shifty and said he cleaned them but as I was late he got a special whitener which arrived yesterday which he will use on them for a special touch so I can’t get them until next week. I did not see my shoes. I felt he was lying to me somehow but accepted the story, relayed it to DH who says I’m an idiot and they have clearly lent them to a friend or something similar and I should’ve said it’s fine I want them now.

Is this a thing?! Do dry cleaners do this?!

I reckon they've assumed them "lost property" and his wife or him have taken them home.

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 19:23

After only 6 weeks?! Is that so long? 6 months maybe...

I wonder what their policy is on how long to keep unclaimed items?

They might've sent them to a charity shop or something?

Oysterbabe · 24/09/2019 19:25

Probably ebayed them!

PooWillyBumBum · 24/09/2019 19:27

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 19:27

Definitely go back tomorrow and get back your ticket if you can’t get the shoes.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 24/09/2019 19:28

Go back in tomorrow and ask for them back.

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 19:29

No sign of them on eBay

MrsMozartMkII · 24/09/2019 19:30

Went did he keep the ticket?

MrsMozartMkII · 24/09/2019 19:30

*Why

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 24/09/2019 19:30

Xpost with everyone! Grin

It doesn’t take a week to whiten shoes and they should’nt Be off the premises. Just tell him you don’t want them done, you’ll take them as they are. Even if he says it’s free, just insist on having them now.

Travis1 · 24/09/2019 19:31

Just day you’ve got an event this weekend you’d completely forgotten about so need them back. No worries about the whitener. Ok thanks, gimme my shoes, bye

OrchidInTheSun · 24/09/2019 19:32

You gave him the ticket?! Why ddid you do that? You don't have your shoes Confused

Pancakeflipper · 24/09/2019 19:32

Do you think dry cleaners do 'borrow' clothes? That is genius and awful all in one.

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 19:33

I handed him the ticket and he had it in his hand and as I left I said “do I need the ticket back?” And he said “no I have your phone number” and read the number to me.

I feel so fucking stupid. I am really embarrassed to go back in as I said I would come back next week - but equally I am very annoyed and I don’t want to wait as I am concerned he is going to pretend he doesn’t have them/even if he gets them back I want to catch him in not having them on the premises.

imnotinthemood · 24/09/2019 19:33

Yeah he's assumed your not coming back . 6 weeks though he's cheeky but I can't believe you forgot if they were designer shoes.
Why do you leave the ticket? you've no proof now Shock.
What if he says I don't know anything about it when you next call ?

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 19:34

Definitely not giving them my wedding dress!

OP posts:
zafferana · 24/09/2019 19:34

Go in tomorrow and demand your shoes back FFS! By next week and with no ticket they'll claim they never had them.

LuluBellaBlue · 24/09/2019 19:34

My dress was worn (and ripped!) by a dry cleaners in the past. The repaired it for free and didn’t charge for the clean when I pointed out the rip most definitely happened since handing it into them.... Hmm

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 19:35

imnotinthemood

I didn’t forget forget but they are wedding shoes It’s not like i need them anytime soon! So it wasn’t a priority. And i live in a little
Village where people know each other so I couldn’t imagine this happening.

wineandcheeseplease · 24/09/2019 19:35

I'd go back and say I needed them for an interview or fancy meal that I'd forgotten
