To think the dry cleaners lent out my shoes?!

Finally got round, two years later, to dropping my wedding shoes at the dry cleaners to be cleaned. Not sure if relevant to the story but they are a fancy pants designer shoe (for context, nice and only worn once by me on wedding day). Bit marked so wanted them cleaned. This was 6 weeks ago and I forgot to go and get them. Went in today and the guy looked extremely bloody shifty and said he cleaned them but as I was late he got a special whitener which arrived yesterday which he will use on them for a special touch so I can’t get them until next week. I did not see my shoes. I felt he was lying to me somehow but accepted the story, relayed it to DH who says I’m an idiot and they have clearly lent them to a friend or something similar and I should’ve said it’s fine I want them now.

Is this a thing?! Do dry cleaners do this?!

How expensive were they? & why wouldn't you wear them again? They'd look great with a summer dress

Reastie · 24/09/2019 20:12

Go back and say you have an event you have decided to wear them to and need them straight away.

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 20:14

why wouldn't you wear them again?

Ironically I didn’t plan on wearing them again because I didn’t want to ruin them/wanted to keep them perfect as my wedding shoes! 😩😆🤷🏻‍♀️🙈

Come on, stop panicking until you actually know what's happened!

Rainonmyguitar · 24/09/2019 20:22

Oh my goodness. Why is everyone on this thread so hysterical? Calm down people. Why can't you just go back next week OP and take it from there?

Shortfeet · 24/09/2019 20:26

My brother took a guitar in to get repaired and they guy said it would be ready in 2 weeks. My brother said, ok , I’ll call whenever I don’t use that guitar too much .

He forgot about it and called in TWO YEARS later l

The guitar was still there , not yet repaired ! Guitar repair man had just put it to the back of the queue as it was not urgent , then kind of forgotten about it.

They both had a good laugh about it.

That’s what I think has happened to your shoes.

billybagpuss · 24/09/2019 20:26

Good luck tomorrow OP, very please you have the credit card receipt.

Woodlandwitch · 24/09/2019 20:28

I think @Shortfeet has cracked it

SarahAndQuack · 24/09/2019 20:29

I would imagine he's just lost sight of them, it having been six weeks, and he's embarrassed he can't lay hands on them immediately. They are obviously very special, but if you just glanced they look like a pair of white shoes, which I would think is a common sight in a cleaners' back room.

Go back and see, before you judge?

TravelsWithChild · 24/09/2019 20:30

Well if they have been stolen then at least they'll always be perfect in your memory (& photos) and they won't have gone to waste sitting in a box and are instead being worn and enjoyed by someone

lalafafa · 24/09/2019 20:31

Doesn’t sound good. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

FrownPrincess · 24/09/2019 20:33

Good luck OP

I’m waiting for someone to start a new thread along the lines of «DH gave me some gorgeous designer shoes for my birthday, but has just asked for them back « Grin

AnneKipanki · 24/09/2019 20:34

Actually , if he does have them , just get them back . I hope they have forgotten to do them .

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 20:36

What?!?! They are my shoes! I don’t want to sound like Ross from friends with the “My sandwich” but no, I won’t feel better about my wedding shoes being worn by someone else.

I doubt he's sold them. Who would want to wear second hand shoes?

Squiggleness · 24/09/2019 20:41

I'm sure there is an honest explanation, and if not you will have to badger them until they reimburse you for the shoes!

FreshwaterBay · 24/09/2019 20:42

No I am not your dry cleaner. But you miss the point.

BlueChangeling · 24/09/2019 20:43

@freshwater Bay are you the Dry cleaner?

AnneKipanki · 24/09/2019 20:45

Just said no .
However probably has a bid on eBay ! ( joking ! )

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 24/09/2019 20:48

@FurrySlipperBoots take a look at eBay! There’s a huge market in second hand designer shoes.

SleepyKat · 24/09/2019 20:48

Hope you get your shoes back tomorrow.

crispysausagerolls · 24/09/2019 20:49

Who would want to wear second hand shoes?

Prada shoes worn once then professionally cleaned? I’m not saying he’s sold them but given or lent to someone to wear? Why not?

freshwaterbay

I don’t really get your point. It’s so unlikely my dry cleaner will read this, and even if then how can it possibly help him? He either has my shoes or he doesn’t. Hopefully if he doesn’t he will get them back. If not he will have a problem / this thread doesn’t change any of
That.

@FreshwaterBay
Still trying to work out what you meant...

Are you the dry cleaning assistant ?
And are you saying you took the shoes temporarily and will bring them back tomorrow ?

Hope you get your shoes OP x
