AIBU to even think that I could actually BE pregnant and the test was right after all?

I am undergoing fertility treatment, not due to take my test until Friday (had to wait 2 weeks and 2 days). However I have felt so helpless that I caved and bought 2 tests.

Pink dye test from B&M - cheap at 2 for £1, then one clear blue.

I got a very very faint line on my clear blue but a negative on my pink one.

I am in a group on Facebook for people undergoing IU and IVF and the majority said that Clear blue tests are notorious for false positives and a web search does confirm this.

One minute I feel heartbroken, then the next I think "I could be!"

I am too scared to test again until Friday as I am happier not knowing for sure, than getting another negative :(

Anyone have experience of mixed results on certain pregnancy tests?

Clear blue are the pits.

Neither test has told you anything neither bad nor good because you need to wait until Friday.

There's no need to be sad about them. They may as well not exist.

Good luck for Friday!!

JustMe81 · 23/09/2019 14:47

You definitely could be. Each different brand of test requires a different level of HCG to show positive, but blue dye tests are also notorious for evaps. If your line has colour to it and was read within the time frame then it’s likely to be positive rather than an evap. Can you post a pic?

Soubriquet · 23/09/2019 14:48

I know it’s hard but put the tests away!!!

You will be stressing yourself out more with the “is it positive? Or negative?..argh I don’t know?!”

Wait until you’re due to take the test to get a more accurate result

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/09/2019 14:49

Try and wait but if you do test use a FRER they are the most reliable and give early results.

Vilanelle · 23/09/2019 14:50

@JustMe81 I will post a pic but it is hard to see in the photo.

@Soubriquet I know! I usually tell people off for testing too early but I don't know what came over me. I have strong symptoms (although this can be blamed on pessaries I am taking) so thought I would test.

Photo incoming

Like I said, they are very faint! And clearer in real life than photo.

@MyDcAreMarvel I have ordered two of those to use on my test date

Ahh OP I've been there and caved in, poas and had similar results.
Sadly the PP is correct- nothing you can do til Friday... but I'm sure I'm tight in thinking that pink dye are more reliable than blue dye so I'd get yourself a First Response one for Friday. Good luck!

kmammamalto · 23/09/2019 15:22

I actually don't think thats that faint. I can definitely see a line. And I normally avoid commenting on these threads when I can't see anything as I don't think it's fair to.
Best of luck to you.

BeanBag7 · 23/09/2019 15:25

I believe First Response Early Response are the best ones, although obviously come at a cost! Get one for Friday and avoid the blue dye ones - I dont know why they still make them if they're so unreliable.

Vilanelle · 23/09/2019 15:30

Thank you everyone. I have read up on evap lines and they are usually colourless and come after urine has dried but we only waited 3 minutes and the line came up.

So confused. I HAVE to resist more testing! This is my first try so am overexcited.

@kmammamalto wow, didn't expect that, everyone else says it is super faint x

Keeping my fingers crossed for you OP.

When I was ttc, I did a test that came up faint positive. Test next day was negative. However, I was pregnant.

JustMe81 · 23/09/2019 15:37

I can definitely see that line OP. I don’t want to get your hopes up but my first positive with this pregnancy was fainter than yours. Fingers crossed for you.

Itsallpetetong · 23/09/2019 15:38

What kind of fertility treatment did you have? Just asking because the trigger shot prior to egg collection can give a false positive if testing early. It is really hard to wait for the official test day but it does save so much uncertainty. Hang on in there. Good luck Flowers

Can the trigger shot make it look like you're pregnant if you're not? Yes, it can cause a false positive if it is still in your system when you take a home pregnancy test. That's because the shot contains hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), the same hormone that a pregnancy test tests for.

Vilanelle · 23/09/2019 15:43

@Itsallpetetong I did take a trigger 14 days ago and have researched and should be out of system. But that said, that could be another reason.

I am only concerned because I was told clear blues are notorious for false positives. Big part of me is telling me to take it as a positive. Argh!!!

First response are the best.
Fingers crossed for you.

Vilanelle · 23/09/2019 15:45

I am also doubt9ing because other tests were negative, one was a bit confusing tho, we thought we saw line but not sure

Robs20 · 23/09/2019 15:46

I can see a line. Fingers crossed for you!

WarshipWarrior · 23/09/2019 15:47

OP dont do this to yourself. We had a thread on here only recently and everyone raved it was positive and OP came back on to say her period had started etc etc. I'd get this deleted, wait til Friday and then see. Good luck though I hope its positive x

fluffyjumper · 23/09/2019 16:36

Get a first response, they are good.

Witchinaditch · 23/09/2019 17:08

I’m by no means a doctor but when I was ttc I looked up “false positives” which it’s my understanding that you can’t them
Unless undergoing fertility treatment as the hormones can play games with the test. Test again on Friday and wishing you lots of luck!

LaurieMarlow · 23/09/2019 17:10

Try not to get your hopes up, wait til friday. Very best of luck.

elanna · 23/09/2019 18:43

After our IVF I tested on day 8 after transfer and got my positive with clear blue. I was supposed to wait until til day 12 but couldn't :p In 5 years I had never gotten a positive before so can't comment on false positives, but my clinic recommends them so I went with it. Depending on your procedure, it could certainly be a true positive but wait until Friday if that's what they said just to make sure. I'm 23 weeks now so it was accurate for me. Hope it's good news for you x

toomuchtooold · 23/09/2019 18:59

When I did IVF I had a bunch of cheap tests leftover from ttc so I did a test every day from the embryo transfer until the 6 week scan. I could see the HCG from the ovulation trigger going out of my system over about 10 days, I got a couple of days of negative and then a really faint positive that got stronger and stronger - by the time I was actually supposed to test it was pretty strong but at your stage it was still very weak.

I think it's hard to avoid obsessing about it, I actually found that a relief tbh - after four years of ttc and being tols to "just relax" I was glad to be able to just let myself obsess. It is important, of course there are going to be big emotions around it. Do whatever you need to to help you cope or just to make the days pass faster

Vilanelle · 23/09/2019 21:04

I'm terrible so I'm going to test tomorrow morning then that's it until Friday. Promise lol
