AIBU Greta Thunberg?

AIBU to ask everyone who can to get behind Greta Thunberg, even if only online, as she's now getting a lot a lot a lot of hate. She clearly threatens people - especially her polar opposites, men, rich old men, powerful men (did I mention men?). Let's all give her the lurve and support she needs.
So on FB I challenged one just now - Why are you attacking a young woman? - and he disappeared. Funny, that.

People are remembering that quite as it’s ridiculous. Not the desired effect surely.
Shame on her parents.

Chatt3rb0x · 25/09/2019 07:01

Gobshite, gives me the creeps.....

There are some lovely adults on here.

Pomegranatepompom · 25/09/2019 07:02

Why should she get the NP prize???
World has gone crazy.

Doesn’t matter. You don’t remember much from anyone do you? And yet all these loathers giving headspace to it. If you want her to go away you’d be better off not listening to her, remembering or talking about it.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 07:06

Chatterbox not sure why this particular thread lets words like that stand re non-NT children. It’s a parallel mn and a nastier one at that.

Pomegranatepompom · 25/09/2019 07:07

What on earth is that supposed to mean Marsha? What don’t I remember?
I certainly don’t loathe her but I don’t think she’s justified the NP prize.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 07:07

Lines from other speeches but you and millions of others are talking about her one line.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 07:08

It wasn’t a dig at what you remember in general ;

Quirrelsotherface · 25/09/2019 07:10

YABU. It's all gone a bit too far now, her speech yesterday was, frankly, embarrassing.
I agree with the post above, this generation do not want for anything. We are in danger of raising a generation of hypocrites.

Pomegranatepompom · 25/09/2019 07:11

That line detracted from her speech. She should be advised better.

She’s a 16 year old with an opinion who’s been promoted to this platform by ???? I really don’t think she’s going to get the message across to the majority.

onalongsabbatical · 25/09/2019 07:15

I really don’t think she’s going to get the message across to the majority. and yet, between her and Extinction Rebellion, suddenly we're all talking about climate change? Trying to get beyond half a dozen posts in the environmental threads a few weeks ago was like trying to find hen's teeth. Here we are at nearly a full thread.
If this keeps going I'll start another one.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 07:16

I don’t think so. She’s stirred up a huge amount of talk. More than any other speech. She still has support I doubt her numbers have dropped.

Pp Gone too far? In the midst of a climate emergency.

onalongsabbatical · 25/09/2019 07:23

@MarshaBradyo while we're both here, I'd like to thank you for your posts, I didn't have time to stay on top of the thread yesterday but every time I looked you were here fighting it out for Greta. Sterling stuff!

Trewser · 25/09/2019 07:24

you were here fighting it out for Greta

Hmm
Trewser · 25/09/2019 07:25

and yet, between her and Extinction Rebellion, suddenly we're all talking about climate change

Yes thats right, they invented it and have been the only environmental activists ever ever Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 07:28

Thanks Onalong : )

onalongsabbatical · 25/09/2019 07:29

Trewser I was first an environmentalist back in the old 1970s. But it's never been at the top of the agenda like it is now, so thanks to ER and Greta - and other factors, I'm not stoopid - it's finally getting the attention it needs.
But you just go right on nitpicking and moaning, knock yourself out.

Trewser which environmental speeches do you remember? that you’ve spent time discussing at the same time as millions of others

Trewser · 25/09/2019 07:33

But it has. It's taught in schools, we have recycling programs. We used to be taught to consume less but that seems to have gone out of the window. GT and XR pull good publicity stunts but the lack of practical advice, particularly for teens, is frustrating.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 07:34

Can’t you fill in the gaps?

Since you say you’ve been taught this stuff

SouthWestmom · 25/09/2019 07:35

We listened to some of it in the car, think LBC were replaying. My dc (teens) were very dismissive and eye rolling at her dramatic stolen my childhood speech.

I think she used a lot of emotive hyperbole and a few facts would have been good to back it up rather than 'people are dying' 'while ecosystems are collapsing' - maybe we missed the detail?

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 07:35

Just asked Ds and he said yeh to do they teach you to consume less etc at school

Trewser · 25/09/2019 07:35

Jordan Peterson's idea that child nutrition and end of poverty may bring about a mind that will find a solution was quite powerful. Because at the moment there is no solution. I think Blue Planet did more for getting rid of single use plastics than XR will ever do.
