AIBU Greta Thunberg?

AIBU to ask everyone who can to get behind Greta Thunberg, even if only online, as she's now getting a lot a lot a lot of hate. She clearly threatens people - especially her polar opposites, men, rich old men, powerful men (did I mention men?). Let's all give her the lurve and support she needs.
So on FB I challenged one just now - Why are you attacking a young woman? - and he disappeared. Funny, that.

Who knows why she was crying

People cry as I said

Trewser · 24/09/2019 19:06

I don't think she made a fool of herself. I did think it was a shame that she cried, but it must have been a very intimidating situation. I don't understand why she didn't appear via video link.

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 19:07

Gwynnie on the face if it looks very unhappy that’s the point

Being overwhelmed happens

conderellainyellakissedafella · 24/09/2019 19:07

As I said before she is not mature enough to address the UN . She is too emotional and they did not take her serious, especially now that she has filed a lawsuit regarding climate change in France, Germany etc . 😂😂

Chatt3rb0x · 24/09/2019 19:07

Greta’s response to Trump’s passive aggressive tweet.

AIBU Greta Thunberg?
Trewser · 24/09/2019 19:07

Mind you, the look she gave Trump was priceless Grin

conderellainyellakissedafella · 24/09/2019 19:08

You cannot go into a serious meeting with anybody and start blubbering all over the place. It's quite 🙄

Whoever wrote her speech and encouraged her has done her a serious disadvantage

Chatt3rb0x · 24/09/2019 19:10

And where are the links to the media turning against her today? All I saw was Fox News apologising, Trumps passive aggressive tweet and Greta’s response.Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 19:10

Gwynnie went to the Oscars and blubbed

I don’t mind it as long as she’s ok she can cry if she wants

Chatt3rb0x · 24/09/2019 19:11

You can when you’re 16 Cinder, doubt anybody in there bar Trump was holding it against her. They all applauded.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/09/2019 19:12

I don't understand why she didn't appear via video link

Many of us feel the same, but upthread it was said that a video link apparently "wouldn't have cut it" - a bit surprising, perhaps, when we're often told how valuable such tech is in saving unnecessary journeys

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 19:13

I wouldn’t have cared if it was video link but all of them not just Greta

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 19:15

You can get impressive telepresence spaces where the wall is filled

You do a presentation and it feels like being on the news

All big consultancies should use it (don’t know how much they do my place had loads of money to spend)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/09/2019 19:20

Now that I definitely agree with, Marsha; for that matter, why does anyone at all need to travel to these conferences when they could quite easily share views, speeches and whatever else by other means?

It's almost as if their taste for a nice expenses-paid jolly - not to mention a teenage totem to coo over - means more to them than the "cause" they claim to care about

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 19:21

They should and one message should be to call businesses to reduce travel at drop of a hat

Floisme · 24/09/2019 19:33

I've said this already but I think the sailing was a really poor call by somebody. The responses that she needed to be there in person make me very uncomfortable. I don't believe any individual should be that important to any cause and if they are then there's something not right.

Or - as I realise video link isn't energy free - she could have got someone to read the speech on her behalf. I'm sure she'd have had people queuing up to do it and it would have made a powerful statement.

And yeah they could all do the same.

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 19:35

All get someone to read their speeches for them?

That’s quite funny but also would be great press.

MangoFeverDream · 24/09/2019 19:41

hope non of the posters who passionately care about the environment have more than 2 children, as one of the biggest impacts you can have to the environment is to have children

Hmm hope you want to stop all immigration as we would be under the replacement rate if we did. Otherwise stfu

HeresMe · 24/09/2019 20:02

That's really friendly response stfu grow up please or provide a reasoned response. I didn't mention anything about any country so the immigration element is mute, it is a global problem and we want to decrease the population as it is a huge driver to increased use of resources or do you not realise that

As a planet we shouldn't even want replacement rate we want a population decrease full stop.

That's the elephant in the room that so many don't want to discuss and get angry at someone even mentioning it like the poster above.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 24/09/2019 20:07

Otherwise stfu

So mature, great debating style

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 24/09/2019 20:09

We do need to decrease the population. I'm sick of hearing "but who will wipe the elderly's arses" - it's like a pyramid scheme that will never stop, if people keep giving birth at replacement/higher rate just to look after old people. Birth rates need to reduce drastically as we are consuming more resources than is sustainable.

onalongsabbatical · 24/09/2019 20:14

On Greta's twitter there's info about an international lawsuit she and another fifteen young people are launching today against the five biggest polluting nations that are also ratifiers of the climate change agreement. David takes on Goliath. twitter.com/GretaThunberg/status/1176181310898884608

MarshaBradyo · 24/09/2019 20:21

Decrease is fine. It’ll be hard when the old section is huge but better than alternative.

I agree, she’s a phoney, believing in her own hype. She’ll be last weeks news when her puppet masters have used up their sound bites.

HeresMe · 24/09/2019 20:23

Thank you that's what I was thinking people keep saying we need to replace, so pensions, we have workers but that just means the problem will forever have to increase. It is a pryramid scheme we are sold like you said.
