AIBU Greta Thunberg?

onalongsabbatical · 22/09/2019 10:34

AIBU to ask everyone who can to get behind Greta Thunberg, even if only online, as she's now getting a lot a lot a lot of hate. She clearly threatens people - especially her polar opposites, men, rich old men, powerful men (did I mention men?). Let's all give her the lurve and support she needs.
So on FB I challenged one just now - Why are you attacking a young woman? - and he disappeared. Funny, that.

If she was a young kid from a council estate in say Scunthorpe or Bradford , there's no way she would have been given so much media attention and a Nobel peace prize nomination for skipping school.

whiteglovetest · 25/09/2019 06:25

The only people who "stole her childhood" are the parents who seem to have allowed her obsessive anxiety on the topic to whip her into a terrified frenzy from age 6.

Mablethorpe · 25/09/2019 06:29

Even my own DC (15 & 11) who are usually very into debating ecological issues with us are dismissive of Greta. Youngest ponders why she's not at school slaving insert tyrannical teachers like him, eldest says it's obvious her parents have enabled her and are well to do.

I'm a bit meh about her if I'm honest.

whiteglovetest · 25/09/2019 06:32

@Mablethorpe so does my 15-year-old. He calls her "that weird kid" and, totally unprompted, said to me "It won't come to anything, they have a kid do this every few years. Nothing will change" :o

whiteglovetest · 25/09/2019 06:32

sorry that was meant to be a shocked face

whiteglovetest · 25/09/2019 06:34

Someone just shared this on my facebook

"To all the school kids going on 'strike' for Climate Change:
You are the first generation who have required air-conditioning in every classroom.
You want TV in every room and your classes are all computerised.
You spend all day and night on electronic devices.
More than ever, you don't walk or ride bikes to school but arrive in caravans of private cars that choke local roads and worsen rush hour traffic.
You are the biggest consumers of manufactured goods ever and update perfectly good expensive luxury items to stay trendy,
Your entertainment comes from electric devices.
Furthermore, the people driving your protests are the same people who insist on artificially inflating the population growth through immigration, which increases the need for energy, manufacturing and transport.
The more people we have, the more forest and bushland we clear and more of the environment is destroyed.
How about this...
Tell your teachers to switch off the air-con.
Walk or ride to school. Switch off your devices and read a book.
Make a sandwich instead of buying manufactured fast food.
No, none of this will happen because you are selfish, badly educated, virtue signalling little 'princesses', inspired by the adults around you who crave a feeling of having a 'noble cause' while they indulge themselves in Western luxury and unprecedented quality of life.
Wake up, grow up and learn to research facts and think for yourself and not blindly accept the words and thoughts of others - I don't think you formulated this action plan all by your self - suspect you may have had some influence and 'guidance' from those you trust ....a word of warning, be cautious of the influence of the 'left' because there may be a time in the future that you will be the ones left out..."

Tilltheendoftheline · 25/09/2019 06:35

So narrow-minded to think a 16 year old must be a puppet or mentally ill when they speak truth to power.

Good job no one said that, then.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/09/2019 06:37

onalongsabbatical

Surely the "good day for feminism" was when these women achieved these positions, not because they did their jobs and ruled against men that you don't like.

Chatt3rb0x · 25/09/2019 06:37

Wow isn’t he lovely.Hmm Does he call all children who don’t follow the norm “ that weird kid”. You must be so proud.

So she looks high now.

Make your mind up folks, high or depressed?😂

Chatt3rb0x · 25/09/2019 06:39

And pretty much all of your last ridiculous post White is caused by adults or untrue.

Trewser · 25/09/2019 06:40

Make your mind up folks, high or depressed?😂

That would be difficult as there is more than one opinion on the thread, posted by different people. You do realise that there is not actually a Mumsnet hivemind?

whiteglovetest · 25/09/2019 06:41

@Chatt3rb0x no that's a leap. He doesn't at all. In fact, he volunteers to help, teach music to and mentor kids with learning disabilities. He just thinks that one individual person appears to be weird. I'm sure we have all seen or met someone who we think is weird. That doesn't mean we all have some issue with the different.

Lotta stretches going on in this thread.

whiteglovetest · 25/09/2019 06:42

@Chatt3rb0x once again, stretch

I just posted what I have found on my feed this morning. I haven't said I agree with it at all. In fact, I don't.

Mistressiggi · 25/09/2019 06:47

Whiteflivetest are agreeing with that Facebook post, or just posting it?
The UK generation of children certainly not expect air conditioning in their classrooms! I assume it is American? If offices in America have air con why not schools? We do polls every year of how children travel to school and walking is top every time.
It's a bit ridiculous to expect children not to grow up initially expecting the norms of the society they are born into to be their norms. It's what they do next that count. I think we are always selfish on a generational level, most people are on the look out for themselves as #1, it's always been the actions of the few that make the positive changes.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 06:49

Conderella yeh but those words are stuck now and you don’t even like her so good on her.

*Tiltheejdoftheline what do you mean all those posters who called her a puppet and have since start of thread how did you miss that

Chatt3rb0x · 25/09/2019 06:49

No we all don’t White and with attitudes like that your son shouldn’t be anywhere near kids with learning difficulties.Hmm

A lot of this is out and out fear of difference. ‘The creeps’. If she was NT she wouldn’t get it.

Hope she gets that Prize.

Course not

Tilltheendoftheline · 25/09/2019 06:56

what do you mean all those posters who called her a puppet and have since start of thread how did you miss that

No they haven't. No one said she must being influenced or have mental health problems because she is a 16 year old with an opinion

whiteglovetest · 25/09/2019 06:57

No we all don’t White and with attitudes like that, your son shouldn’t be anywhere near kids with learning difficulties

riiiighhht so you think it's right to attack another 15 year old then.... I think you just lost your moral high ground.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2019 06:57

Are you saying no one has used the word puppet?

Chatt3rb0x · 25/09/2019 07:00

No simply pointing out that with attitudes like that he isn’t the right person to care for kids with learning difficulties. They deserve better.
