To be disgusted at Gogglebox

PatricksRum · 20/09/2019 23:11

When asked how Boris Johnson 'shut up' a woman grilling him, Izzi Warner said, "shoved his knob in her gob."

Her sister then said later on in the show, "I played Tig (Tag) not so long ago. But we called it #MeToo and basically we had to chase each other and either grab somebody's boob or Bum and then say (#MeToo)

AIBU or is this vile?

I love Goggle box, last bastion of the politically incorrect!

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 20/09/2019 23:52

They’re not the only ones. Making a mockery out of a movement that was created because of the sexual abuse of girls and women. Yeah, really fucking funny. Wankers.

NoCauseRebel · 20/09/2019 23:53

They sound thick as pigshit. so do the people who watch it. I mean, a television programme where we get to watch people watching a television programme. How in God’s name is that remotely entertaining, and how or more to the point why, would anyone with an ounce of intelligence want to watch it.

It is utter shite.

Breathlessness · 20/09/2019 23:55

It’s no TV Burp.

Mothership4two · 21/09/2019 00:25

You cannot judge someone's intelligence by what they watch on tv

I have never watched Bake Off, Strictly or Downton, but I wouldnt insult those that do. It's just personal preference

Pukkatea · 21/09/2019 00:31

@NoCauseRebel I have a PhD and I find Gogglebox very entertaining. To reduce it to 'watching people watch tv' suggests you haven't watched or critically engaged with it, because even those who don't like it know that is not the point of it.

These jokes sound tasteless to me, and C4 seem to have shown poor judgment in showing them. Err on the side of caution with potentially triggering subjects.

Fresta · 21/09/2019 00:43

I love Goggle Box and Izzy and Ellie are anything but thick! If you don't get them and their humour it's either because you're from a different world entirely, I guess you're probably a middle class southerner!

Megan2018 · 21/09/2019 00:45

I laughed too, not everything needs to be taken seriously. Some people need to lighten up!

PatricksRum · 21/09/2019 01:03

Some people need to lighten up!

Really?

Are you aware of how many women speak up and how many are convicted?
I don't understand how it is funny in the slightest.

Fortunately/ unfortunately I'm not brave enough to speak out about my rape but if I was, this would set me right back.

For those claiming it doesn't matter because it's just Gogglebox is nonsense. Confused

I like Goggle Box also, but not the so called celebrity one, which was dire.. I don't know how the tv makers select the people on there, but they are all quite watchable, and I assume they get paid for this.

So this cross section of people/families. watching tv programmes,is quite entertaining, and most likely, its like this in many homes around the country. and nothing appears to be censored, which is good.

So its pointless saying you are disgusted by some people's comments in the programme, as it's most likely these are the comments of thousands of people in their homes, on certain issues.

Tillygetsit · 21/09/2019 01:08

Poor taste and judgement I think. All these people suggesting OP should lighten up or questioning her sense of humour should question their own emotional intelligence.

Fresta · 21/09/2019 01:14

Do you even watch Goggle Box OP, or have you just picked this up from the news?

Northie · 21/09/2019 01:36

If that's you with a dark sense of humour I must have a void Blush

OwlBeThere · 21/09/2019 01:56

I’m all for dark humour, frankie Boyle or Jimmy Carr are some of my favourites but those jokes aren’t even funny.

Have you actually read the OP? She said she played a game of tag and called it #MeToo, how is that an opinion and an opinion of thousands of people? Confused

Yes, I watched this episode of Gogglebox and picked up on it.

I’m all for dark humour, frankie Boyle or Jimmy Carr are some of my favourites but those jokes aren’t even funny.
Totally agree, Owl. This wasn't even said as a joke, it was something she did.

@sunshineangel How dare you suggest that the reason I'm offended is because I haven't made the effort to deal with my trauma and "get over it". What a disgusting thing to suggest. I have worked through it and it has very little bearing on my life now. I'm not hurt or triggered by the joke, I'm angry that it's making a mockery of an important movement which empowers women to speak up about sexual abuse.

TroysMammy · 21/09/2019 10:24

Don't watch it again OP.

Funghi · 21/09/2019 10:25

The hairdresser is really putting me off watching. Last week he roughly tapped his tiny dog on the face and nose (most sensitive part) repeatedly and is always too rough with them in my opinion. He’s faced backlash for his actions with them before too.

It makes me dread him coming on so then I don’t really enjoy the whole show.

TheDarkPassenger · 21/09/2019 10:25

@peachgreen

Don’t let them trigger you, you’ve clearly done really well Smile

AmericanHousewifeFan · 21/09/2019 10:38

Don't watch it if it upsets you OP.

I agree that the # Metoo part should not have been used though.

ShirleyPhallus that is exactly what I used to say until I was under a lot of stress one night and sat down to watch TV (I rarely watch it). I couldn't find the sky remote. I would usually have just turned it off but it actually cheered me up.

Mary and Giles and Steph and Dom are (were) hilarious. I love Mary and Marina also. Now I watch it every week.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 21/09/2019 10:50

The Boris Johnson comment may have been a joke, but it's the sort of joke that lowers boundaries.

Channel 4 shouldn't have screened it.

ariamontgomery · 21/09/2019 11:28

I think it’s hilarious and reading your post just literally made me lol 😂

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 21/09/2019 11:30

I thought it was in poor taste too tbh.

I'm actually surprised they got through the edit

ariamontgomery · 21/09/2019 11:31

The game is still making me laugh

sheshootssheimplores · 21/09/2019 11:38

Sorry, I think it’s funny too 🥴
