Am I missing something? Its the EU that don't want to do a deal, not the UK so why all the flack to Boris?

Am I naïve? Am I interpreting this right? I'm so sick and tired of the whole thing, but isn't it the EU that are playing silly buggers in their petulance? Boris is trying to do a deal.

Yet everyone is blasting HIM.

BTW I voted remain but accepted the result and just want it all over and done with, plus the attitude of Brussels and remOANERS,- not Remainers who accept result -has been abysmal .

I am not a fan of Boris BTW but he seems to know what to do. Or have I had my head stuck in the sand for the last 3 years?

Please be gentle, no bun fights, a sensible discussion please,

OP posts:
Stickybeaksid · 16/09/2019 18:24

Where other than Europe are there boarders with no sign of a boarder?

Alsohuman · 16/09/2019 18:25

Remoaners is enough for me to hand you your arse, OP. Disingenuous, faux lack of understanding is another.

Lex234 · 16/09/2019 18:26

This summed it up best for me OP

smemorata · 16/09/2019 18:27

Where are these borders that don't look like borders? Not between two countries that don't have a trade agreement I bet!

Dutch1e · 16/09/2019 18:28

all around the world there are borders with no noticeable sign of a boarder

Examples please, of borders that would satisfy the international peace treaty that is the GFA.

I think that poster is taking the piss out of those who don't know the difference between boarder and border.

LaurieMarlow · 16/09/2019 18:31

Yet the EU are the only side saying they actively would put up and enforce a hard border when UK unilaterally said whatever happened they wouldnt

Then the UK are idiots because they need a border for WTO purposes.

Fucking pay attention.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 16/09/2019 18:31

If you're picking up spelling there probably isn't much more discussion to be had....

7Days · 16/09/2019 18:37

So which is it -
Brexiters want to protect their borders from the EU or they don't?

Havanananana · 16/09/2019 18:38

Having control of your boarders does also mean you can choose how and where to enforce it.

Not so. A border is by definition between two countries (or trading blocs). They can agree between themselves how they will enforce it, but only within the rules set by international laws.

Its only the EU that have actively said they would enforce a border

You realise that if there is No Deal on 31st October, there will be a hard border all around the UK - a sort of Boris Wall - through which all goods and people will have to pass. Hence the potential traffic problems at Dover, the Eurotunnel and elsewhere.

BarbariansMum · 16/09/2019 18:39

Borders that dont look like borders come about through things like trade deals and treaties. Which are exactly what we won't have with the EU in the event of no deal.

longwayoff · 16/09/2019 18:41

Oh! The Bridge! Excellent idea Bozza, what with all your experience of bridges. £34 million spaffed up the wall on the Garden Bridge for sweet F A. London thanks you, they keep being told you were an excellent mayor so maybe you were.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 16/09/2019 18:47

*Then the UK are idiots because they need a border for WTO purposes.

Well certainly a border is the easiest option to avoid contravening WTO...

But it isnt the only option (Point of origin etc). Regardless it would increase the imperative on both sides to close a trading deal and that would make it easier and the reality us that our markets are already aligned.

Either way it wont happen because tge EU hasnt offered a deal that will get thrpugh Parliment and Parliment hasnt a clue what it wants

ilovesooty · 16/09/2019 18:53

Johnson is a liar who isn't even working with the EU to move towards a deal.

We voted to leave and the EU must be running out of patience with us.

And anyone who says ", I just want it all over and done with" is spectacularly uninformed.

ListeningQuietly · 16/09/2019 18:53

How does one "point of origin" a cow that lives on a farm which straddles the border ?

AutumnCrow · 16/09/2019 18:54

I wouldn't trust Boris Johnson as far as I could throw him. Although I am aware there is some kind of delusion thing going on in some circles, right now.

PerkingFaintly · 16/09/2019 18:55

BTW I voted remain

QuiQuaiQuod, can I ask why you voted Remain?

Could you say some of the things that attracted you to staying in the EU?

Septembersunrays · 16/09/2019 19:02

Yes op the eu have been less than fair. But, remembering there is very little positive about the eu, they have to make the whole thing seem painful and drawn out to put other countries off leaving. Because many do want to leave.

It's a disaster.
UK was huge payer into eu coffers where actually few countries do pay in, many are takers. One would think due to UK standing, payments and the sheer brunt of eu immigration we have endured comparable to our size and what other countries have had from us they would have been far far more respectful than they have. Esp comments from junker and guy etc. Awful.

BarbariansMum · 16/09/2019 19:06

In what ways do you feel the EU have been less than fair @Septembersunrays ?

EerieSilence · 16/09/2019 19:07

It's not up to the EU to provide Britain the best deal.
Seriously - is this how dumb some Brits have become? Did you get some BJ/JRM rinse for your brains? You will flex your muscles, pout like Mini-Trumps and the EU will ask "how high do you want us to jump, memsahib"?
All Britain has managed is to look like a country on a verge of nervous breakdown. Going back to the times of the good old empire when you ruled half of the world with generosity and kind... eh, whip, blood and cannons and stiff upper lip. After the 2WW you managed to flatten the society a bit but now you celebrate the return to times when you had a posh ruling class who didn't rule because they deserved it but because of what they were born into and the rest will be divided into the deserving poor and the mob abusing the social welfare system.
The disdain with which you treat Ireland and the rest of the Europe only because they dared to tell you no so you are throwing a toddler tantrum. Between Farage and Cummings they did an excellent job on you, making you walk into a disaster like lemmings, even evoking the great war spirit, like Brexit should be a fucking war so expect shortages after that but bear them because nothing tastes better than a crab apple crumble made with margarine and a taste of victory.

pointythings · 16/09/2019 19:08

they would have been far far more respectful than they have.

This is just another way of saying 'Don't they know who we are?'

It's sad that the UK hasn't moved on from its delusions of Empire.

ListeningQuietly · 16/09/2019 19:12

If after Brexit, there is no border between Britain and Ireland
the UK will be unable to enforce any sort of immigration checks
and the EU will be unable to enforce food safety standards
therefore there has to be a border.

there is no border anywhere else in the world as invisible as the Irish border is currently

fadingfast · 16/09/2019 19:15

This thread is an excellent illustration of why putting the whole thing to a public vote on the basic terms of 'in' or 'out' was such a fundamentally bad idea.

PortiaCastis · 16/09/2019 19:16

Boris is all wind and no fart or all bluster and no substance what a coward legging if away from a few hecklers, if he's any sort of minister he'd stand tall shoulders back and face the music, what's the point of me teaching my dd to stand up and debate your argument when the PM runs away from his. A shining beacon of example he is not!

Septembersunrays · 16/09/2019 19:16

I don't think being a major contributor into eu coffers is dragging up remnants of empire.

However speaking of empire did anyone see guy's latest quote Blush....

Apparently according to him that's how he sees the future Shock empires.

The eu being one of them.

ilovesooty · 16/09/2019 19:18

@fadingfast absolutely.
