My sister is 33 and has 3 girls (Katie 6, Penny 4, Emily 2) and yesterday had a boy. I have 2 boys (Matthew 4 and Thomas 1). We have never been very friendly, and she has always resented me as the younger child. This morning they have announced its name is to be Thomas, stating that Thomas was always her name and its in her husbands family. I feel like i have been slapped in the face, this is more about her showing me she doesn't give a shite about my feelings - she didn't even call me personally to tell me the name or did they speak to me beforehand to ask if i'd mind. Am i being a cow to be upset? My mum and dad are trying to keep the peace but i am furious! HELP! (oh and i am pregnant due tomorrow)

YANBU at all!
My sisters have 9 kids between them and all the names I fancied had been taken before my two boys came along. So we had a bit of a job choosing names but they are non already in use.
What a silly mare. At least everyone will know that your Thomas was first and think that she is a bit deranged.

So glad that this worked out in the end. I hope the future will be less confusing for all your family. Well done.

In my family lots of the boys both young and old are called James. They all use a variation such as , jim, jimmy, theres a JR and so on. Maybe she could call hers Tommy or tom

Been following this but not posted before. Really pleased you got it sorted and congratulations on the birth of Harriet - love the names. Think it is lovely too that she now has a boy plus her three girls and you have a girl to go with your boys - maybe that will help bring you closer too as you can swap clothes and stories.

Hope you start to get on with her now too - it sometimes takes a really big thing to break down barriers built up over years, with me and my bro it was our Grandmother's detah, which was shame as nothing would have pleased her more than us being friends before then However we get along fine now

Congratulations on the birth of Harriet, mrsa - that is a lovely name

And I'm glad you and your sister have sorted things out between you. I like happy endings!

(FWIW when my niece was pg my SIL told me that she was planning to name the baby the same as one of my children, whether it was a boy or a girl - 2 different names that is! As there was going to be at least 17 years between them, and a different surname, and hardly ever meeting up, I thought that was fine; in fact my 19-yr-old has yet to meet his 2-yr-old namesake )
