DH 'baking' AIBU

Eurgh I may be U. DH had to go out last night, he told me if I bathed DD5, he would make a marshmallow/rice crispy tray bake with her at her request to take some baking to school. Great! He made the tray bake, didn't follow any recipe but said it tasted good. DD excited. I've just gone to check it and noticed he's lined the tray with bloody cling film instead of going out and buying tin foil. That means one sticky mess as I've tried to remove it with the cling film not really judging. Now got to go and buy sweets instead to give DD something to hand out.

AIBU to say only a fool would like a tray with cling film?!

Must add, I'm a little cross right now but there won't be a huge row, by the time he's home from work it will be a jokey 'if you had a brain you would be dangerous' type teasing.

Doh. He tried to do a nice thing but zero marks for logical thinking there!! grin]

Ref0rmedB0t · 16/09/2019 07:41

So many typos, mum on the run!

Hasn't he put it in the fridge? It should set and pop out if you turn it upside down on a plate.
I'd use cake cases and make single ones.

lottiegarbanzo · 16/09/2019 07:43

Baked it with cling film?

Following a recipe would have prevented this. Sounds like a child doing 'pretend cooking' in a toy kitchen.

madcatladyforever · 16/09/2019 07:44

For fuck sake sake the stupidity would give me the rage. Did he actually bake it in the oven with plastic lining? What did he think would happen. This is why I live alone or I'd be constantly ranting.

OtraCosaMariposa · 16/09/2019 07:44

Cling film works fine for tray bakes usually. Unless you're putting it in the oven, obviously.

Ref0rmedB0t · 16/09/2019 07:44

He did try to do a nice thing, and honestly he hasn't left a trace of mess. How can a man run a successful business yet not know cling film is a flimsy plastic that will, erm, CLING!!?!!

My DH is like this! Really up for helping but then things like this happen... 😫 hopefully he has learned his lesson? And you can take the piss forever more.

DramaFarmer · 16/09/2019 07:44

OMG!

Do you actually bake the Rice Krispies, or just melt the hunk in the pan, mix in the krispies and leave it to cool before putting it in the tray to set?

If so not QUITE such a logic fail.....

PurpleDaisies · 16/09/2019 07:45

I line my ribs with cling film if I’m doing a rocky road or marshmallow and rice crispy type cake that goes in the fridge not the oven.

PurpleDaisies · 16/09/2019 07:45

Ribs?!!!! That should say trays.

rhos · 16/09/2019 07:46

Oh my god / listen to yourself! Calm down. Poor guy

sparklefarts · 16/09/2019 07:47

Surely once it's been set in the fridge it will just peel off?!?!? Rice Krispie cake does not go in the oven so no probs there

Heismyopendoor · 16/09/2019 07:47

I’ve used cling film before for rice crispie treats and it was ok once set. 🤷‍♀️

He hasn't actually 'baked' it no. I gather he's melted marshmallows, added rice crispies and left it to set as I asked him if he had added butter and he said he did not. So its super sticky because it seems to be pure melted marshmallow. It was in the fridge, ive got it out of the tray and turned it upside down but the cling film is mostly just ripping and won't come away.

Woah. Calm down

BertrandRussell · 16/09/2019 07:48

I line my tray with cling film if i’m making “refrigerator” type cakes.

PurpleDaisies · 16/09/2019 07:48

It’s his recipe that’s wrong, not the use of cling film.

You don’t sound very nice.

MyOtherProfile · 16/09/2019 07:48

We have used cling film in the past and it's fine. So long as he didn't actually bake it! I think you have overreacted.

Heyboyo · 16/09/2019 07:49

It didn’t go in the oven. Calm down.

GrumpiestCat · 16/09/2019 07:51

YABU. I've definitely done cold setting things like that with cling film. He did a nice thing. Or tried. Telling him off would be mean spirited. He won't bother trying again if you do.

dudsville · 16/09/2019 07:52

Wow that is a pretty basic lack of understanding. That's not even coooking knowledge basic.

PurpleDaisies · 16/09/2019 07:52

I wonder if the op will admit she’s been unreasonable.

BeanBag7 · 16/09/2019 07:53

I think it's the lack of butter that's the issue, tin foil would have stuck too if it's just melted marshmallows. With at proper recipe, cling film would have been fine.
