DH 'baking' AIBU

Eurgh I may be U. DH had to go out last night, he told me if I bathed DD5, he would make a marshmallow/rice crispy tray bake with her at her request to take some baking to school. Great! He made the tray bake, didn't follow any recipe but said it tasted good. DD excited. I've just gone to check it and noticed he's lined the tray with bloody cling film instead of going out and buying tin foil. That means one sticky mess as I've tried to remove it with the cling film not really judging. Now got to go and buy sweets instead to give DD something to hand out.

AIBU to say only a fool would like a tray with cling film?!

Must add, I'm a little cross right now but there won't be a huge row, by the time he's home from work it will be a jokey 'if you had a brain you would be dangerous' type teasing.

If this was a reverse you wouldn't have half the commentso nhere about the wife being an idiot, or a knob etc.

CasanovaFrankenstein · 17/09/2019 21:51

OP I get it. It is annoying! Bit of a stitch in time situation - extra hassle would be avoided by just using a recipe.

Myriade · 17/09/2019 21:54

If this was a reverse, her DH wouldnt have had to do a mad dash to the shop in the middle of the school run.....
And chances are that the woman would have looked up a recipe because she would have had a pretty good idea of how much of a pain it is to do the above

You cant always substitute men for woman and vice versa.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 17/09/2019 22:01

Scoop it out, put it in cup cake papers and in the fridge like vanilla rocky pies - will be fine.

In answer to your original question, yes, YABU as cling film would typically be used. But this is mumsnet and therefore the DH must be unreasonable

Fatshedra · 18/09/2019 05:50

The only issue is not following a recipe but a more experienced cook like me could probably better judge the crispie amount and make it work.
You must have a boring life if this event makes you start a big row!!

PurpleDaisies · 18/09/2019 07:33

But this is mumsnet and therefore the DH must be unreasonable.

Loads of posters have said the dh wasn’t unreasonable. Read the thread.

Yeah I've noticed this on other threads too.

If the husband has followed a recipe and it had gone wrong and he has then dashed out to buy something for the child to take to school, then he would have been beyond criticism. But that’s not what he did.

BlueCornsihPixie · 18/09/2019 10:30

I think the husband made a mistake, but unless it's part of a wider issue I wouldn't be cross

If this is a 'yet again I am sorting out DHs mess" then it is a problem. However if it's a one off occasion, I think it's just a mistake.

Maybe the people saying it's just a mistake are people who don't have to sort out their DPs mess, while the ones that would be pissed off with him do? Me and DP do equal home work so there's give and take on both sides and this would be fine for us, but if Ops DH is generally a dead weight then it's different

I don't think I have ever followed a recipe for a simple fridge cake tbh, if I ever do I would collate multiple recipes. I think it's quite easy to miss an ingredient out when baking and it's not really fair to be cross about it. If I fucked up baking on one occasion and my DP was pissed off, I wouldn't be happy.

The whole thing is null and void because cling film is the appropriate thing to use for rice crispy treats. It’s a pointless argument.

winniestone37 · 18/09/2019 16:43

ah ha ha ha this is rather funny!!!

gill1960 · 18/09/2019 19:54

All you can do is take the piss big time! !

And teach him to read a recipe .

Icapturethecast1e · 23/09/2019 10:14

Am i the only one who uses an empty bread bag or cereal packet bag to line the tray.

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/09/2019 10:22

We used to use cereal packet liners Castle, but then they changed them from sort-of greaseproof paper to this plasticy stuff.

Do the bread bags not just rip if you've got something sticky?

The cling film support on this thread is a bit weird. At the risk of stating the obvious, it's a single use plastic.
