DH 'baking' AIBU

Eurgh I may be U. DH had to go out last night, he told me if I bathed DD5, he would make a marshmallow/rice crispy tray bake with her at her request to take some baking to school. Great! He made the tray bake, didn't follow any recipe but said it tasted good. DD excited. I've just gone to check it and noticed he's lined the tray with bloody cling film instead of going out and buying tin foil. That means one sticky mess as I've tried to remove it with the cling film not really judging. Now got to go and buy sweets instead to give DD something to hand out.

AIBU to say only a fool would like a tray with cling film?!

Must add, I'm a little cross right now but there won't be a huge row, by the time he's home from work it will be a jokey 'if you had a brain you would be dangerous' type teasing.

Wrap him in cling film and pelt him with marshmallows until he sees the error of his ways.

User12879923378 · 16/09/2019 09:03

NB do put some baking parchment underneath it once you've got the cling film off or it will just stick to whatever you're using again once it's warmed up to room temperature.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 16/09/2019 09:03

YABU for calling it a “traybake” when it doesn’t go in the oven.

SaffronRose · 16/09/2019 09:06

Tin foil would have probably stuck too to be honest.

nestisflown · 16/09/2019 09:07

I don't get all the serious comments- this was obviously light hearted Grin maybe it's too early in the morning for this sort of thing, OP.

Sleepymum45 · 16/09/2019 09:08

Bless him, at least he tried. You will laugh about it soon, but be careful when a packet instruction says "cover loosely and place in microwave " Exh "covered loosely " with a tea towel and set microwave alight ! (No I am not kidding)

Cakeorchocolate · 16/09/2019 09:11

Can see this being a very easy mistake to make for someone that doesn't bake much.

Hope it comes off in time.

hsegfiugseskufh · 16/09/2019 09:11

everyone ranting about how stupid he is to bake clingfilm in the oven, when anyone who knows anything about "baking" would know that you do not put marshmallow rice crispie tray bakes anywhere near an oven.

The irony.

Jamhandprints · 16/09/2019 09:12

You're all wrong ... non-stick baking paper is waaaaay better than cling film or foil.

CORRECT. And Sainsburies own brand is the king of grease proof paper.

BertrandRussell · 16/09/2019 09:12

“Bless him, at least he tried.“
He didn’t use a recipe!!!!

Toooldtocareanymore · 16/09/2019 09:13

I made a chocolate biscuit cake in a loaf tin on Sunday for family party, it was very rich and dense, recipe said line tin with clingfilm which I did- i'd usually use baking paper, it was a success and a lot easier than the baking parchment so ill be doing it again.

Ringdonna · 16/09/2019 09:17

Haha, I once made cakes and forgor to add flour.....

Teddybear45 · 16/09/2019 09:21

Cheapo cling film. Get better quality next time

123chocolate · 16/09/2019 09:22

You sound awful. It was a no bake recipe and he's tried to do something nice. So many of the women on this site sound abusive.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 16/09/2019 09:26

anyone who knows anything about "baking" would know that you do not put marshmallow rice crispie tray bakes anywhere near an oven.

@holidayhelpppp. And anyone who knows anything would know that they are not called tray BAKES. That’s like calling a trifle a steamed pudding.

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 09:28

You sound like bloody hard work, OP. Have you never made a tiny mistake in your life?

TatianaLarina · 16/09/2019 09:45

If it was warm when it went on the cling film it will have melted the film slightly so I wouldn’t be eating that personally.

TatianaLarina · 16/09/2019 09:45

You're all wrong ... non-stick baking paper is waaaaay better than cling film or foil

This is true.

Zaphodsotherhead · 16/09/2019 09:46

I didn't actually know there was a recipe for marshmallow crispie cakes! i used to make them all the time when my kids were little, with whatever bits of leftover stuff we had - some raisins, few glace cherries, maybe some nuts or chopped up chocolate - just to use stuff up.

And yes, it sticks like a bugger, so I think the freezer should sort it out. i think time was possibly against him and you're trying to turn it out before it's set properly hard.

Mmmm, rice crispie cakes....

C8H10N4O2 · 16/09/2019 09:49

“Bless him, at least he tried.“

You have dismally low expectations of men for basic household tasks and parenting.

A child can follow a recipe for a no-cook crispy based cake.

BertrandRussell · 16/09/2019 09:52

And he didn’t bloody try- he didn’t use a recipe!

user1492809438 · 16/09/2019 09:53

Try freezing it, the film may peel off then

Upsiedasie · 16/09/2019 09:56

Did the freezer work?

LiveInAHidingPlace · 16/09/2019 10:00

Not sure why people are arguing about whether tray bake is an acceptable thing to say since it's not baked anyway. Horrible term either way, just call it baking.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 16/09/2019 10:04

Not sure why people are arguing about whether tray bake is an acceptable thing to say since it's not baked anyway.

Er, that’s exactly why people are pointing out it shouldn’t be called a “bake”?!
