My child wants to be a pain au chocolat - is this normal?

He is two.

He wants to be a food stuff - such as a pain au chocolat, stew or cake.

We were baking pain earlier and he proceeded to put his soft toy turtle into the pastry and said he wanted to be in the pastry too and get warmed up in the oven.

Am I raising a strange child or is this normal? 😂🐢🥐

Great reasoning! Especially for a 2 year old! I used to teach 6 year olds. When asked what they wanted to be when they grew up, one little boy wanted to be a police dog and another wanted to be a pencil. Little kids are ace!

Oh God yes, totally normal. One of my happiest memories of helping out in reception was when the topic of "living and growing" lead to a carpet session on "what you want to be when you grow up". One child wanted to be a policewoman, the rest were an assortment of superheroes, princesses, animals, foodstuffs and random object. My favourites were the little girls who wanted to be a beach and a flamingos respectively, and the little lad who wanted to be a giant sweetie. I think the teacher was wanting/expecting a discussion about careers. It was hilarious. Grin

It’s normal. If he feels like a pain au chocolat and identifies as a pain au chocolat, only a bigot would refuse to recognise his inner chocolatiness.

Obviously if you really cared and loved him you would start injecting him with chocolate so that he can become his true self or you're a BIGOT.

When I was two or three I told one of my aunt’s friends that I wanted to be a table when I grew up. She still asks my aunt when she sees her how that career choice is going now 😂

Mine wanted to be a plane. A pilot? I asked. No, a plane, just a plane.

He has not insisted in being a plane in the last 12 years, but has done quite a bit of gliding and will be applying to study aerospace engineering soon. He still does NOT want to be a pilot Grin

Mine wants to be a fish-lion-turtle-parrot (with a truly unplaceable accent) and spends whole days where he will only answer to his 'true' name - Mincey Bingle. It can be very confusing, especially if you forget which order the animals come in because then Mincey Bingle tells you off loudly in his incomprehensible voice. Other people think it's cute, but they don't have to live with it!

DD is 4. She wants to be a vet when she grows up she says. If that falls through she wants to be a farm she said. Not live on a farm...she wants to BE a farm 😁

If your child self-identifies as a pastry, he needs to be taken seriously and provided with professional support to decide on preferred pronouns. Has the child been helped to explore alternative fillings?
