My child wants to be a pain au chocolat - is this normal?

He is two.

He wants to be a food stuff - such as a pain au chocolat, stew or cake.

We were baking pain earlier and he proceeded to put his soft toy turtle into the pastry and said he wanted to be in the pastry too and get warmed up in the oven.

Am I raising a strange child or is this normal? 😂🐢🥐

Haha! That's just the typical adorable nonsense that comes out of the mouths of little kids! Totally normal!

My friend recently asked her nearly-3 year old what she thought mummy's job was. Child thought long and hard, then piped up, "postman!"
She's a pharmacist!

Jamhandprints · 16/09/2019 09:51

My son was at least 6 when he gave up practising his "flying skills". He jumped off everything, flapping his arms.

proseccoaficionado · 16/09/2019 09:55

He is pure genius! I wanted to be a guest, thoughGrin

Fizzypoo · 16/09/2019 09:55

My ds when he was around 5/6 came crying into my bedroom extremely upset as he wasn't a monkey. Me and dd cracked up laughing which made him cry even more. Lovely thread to read OP.

DS1 used to really believe he had a tail and was devastated when he realised he didn't. He spent about an hour looking for it with a mirror.

My sister once made a 'real life working time machine' she made us all leave the room and closed the curtains while she travelled back in time. She became outraged when she opened the curtains and kitchen door only to discover she was still in the early nineties and we weren't all Victorian folk.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 16/09/2019 10:17

I'm still not over "Mincey Bingle", tbh

and I hope I never will be

verticality · 16/09/2019 10:18

Your title made me smile. How lovely!

Howmanysleepsnow · 16/09/2019 10:22

@Timandra was the school in a city beginning with L? If so I think my ds stood up and agreed with him. He didn’t know what one was but had heard they were on tv a lot...

Justsocross · 16/09/2019 10:24

My son thought he was a pigeon for ages and used to introduce us to his relatives !!! He’s 26 now and fairy normal lol

FreakyPurple · 16/09/2019 10:28

When in reception, my (now 13 yo) DD filled out one of those "about me" pages on the first day of school and stated that when she grows up, she wants to be........a pizza GrinGrin

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/09/2019 10:30

@TraceyHorrobin that book brings back such lovely memories!!!

It was DS's fav- so quirky and funny just like DS who is 21

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 16/09/2019 10:42

My daughter doesn't want to be anything strange, however she has a warped view of adulthood. She thinks when she is big she will keep our house and we are the ones to move out. She then told us that when she is a chef in her own restaurant we can work for her. She won't pay us because if we wanted to stay in our house then working for her will be the rent we will pay! This was when she was almost 4. At almost 6 she tells us that our cooking is getting better and she feels with some more practice we will definitely get a job with her. My Dp is a good chef, so he gets a bit Shockwhen she says he needs more practice!

MinesaBottle · 16/09/2019 11:04

My friend’s ds wanted to be a roast dinner when he was about three, because everyone likes them. He didn’t seem that worried about ending up in people’s tummies.

Gillian1980 · 16/09/2019 11:13

These are hilarious and Mincey Bingle has made my day. I was crying with laughter and accidentally woke the baby up...

MorganKitten · 16/09/2019 11:26

I work with a kid who wants to be a ball, pretty normal

YouJustDoYou · 16/09/2019 11:27

Mine once had a two hour meltdown at 3 years old because he discovered he wasn't Dick Van Dyke.

notso's story reminded me of a pupil in my colleague's class. The creative theme they were following was American Indians, and one group had decorated an old sheet with pictures and symbols from that culture. She then used the sheet to disguise a particularly unlovely corner of her classroom where many pipes ran up and down the wall. The result looked rather like one quarter of a wigwam. (I was impressed)
One 8-year old insisted that he wanted to go into the wigwam, and although she didn't really want him flapping around with an old sheet, she eventually gave in.
After a few minutes, he emerged grumpily, complaining that all that was in there was some old pipes; he really thought his wonderful teacher had somehow installed a portal into a Native American home, complete with inhabitants. Well, if a wardrobe can lead to Narnia, why not?
Another colleague had a pupil who came to school as a clockwork car, complete with sound effects. As this rather distracted the class, she removed the key from his back, and told him that he couldn't run around the room "vrooming" until she put it back in for him. Luckily, he accepted this, trotting up to her desk at the beginning of each playtime, getting wound up, and going out into the playground in his true persona. At the end of playtime, he would happily come back in, wait for the key to be removed, and settled down in "parked" mode.
As far as I know, both became quite rational young men.

ipswichwitch · 16/09/2019 11:47

DS2 wants to be Darth Vader in a white van, which is pretty much the pinnacle of all evil 😂 He’s wanted to be pretty much every villain going, but he’s settled on Darth Vader for now.

nowayhose · 16/09/2019 11:58

Oh, he sounds totally sweet and imaginative ! I LOVE it !
Can't remember what I wanted to be when I was little, but my youngest ALWAYS wanted to be a devil, lol. :)

Allington · 16/09/2019 12:09

DD wanted to be the tooth fairy aged 5/6 Grin

Howdidido · 16/09/2019 12:13

Normal
When I was 2 I wanted to be a leek. I had no particular affiliation to the leek cause. I didn't particularly like them to eat. I am not Welsh.
2 year olds are weird. And hilarious. Encourage his imagination!

zafferana · 16/09/2019 12:41

'The Tale of Samuel Whiskers' is the one you want - but beware - I found that story absolutely terrifying as a small DC!

zafferana · 16/09/2019 12:42

Oh and DS2 wanted to be a doggie for years ...
