My child wants to be a pain au chocolat - is this normal?

He is two.

He wants to be a food stuff - such as a pain au chocolat, stew or cake.

We were baking pain earlier and he proceeded to put his soft toy turtle into the pastry and said he wanted to be in the pastry too and get warmed up in the oven.

Am I raising a strange child or is this normal? 😂🐢🥐

Wrap him in a blanket and turn the hairdryer on him!

Sounds very normal! I was a blackberry bush for 3 months of my childhood.

TinyMystery · 15/09/2019 18:46

Mincey Bingle I’m crying 😂😂😂

CigarsofthePharoahs · 15/09/2019 18:53

Mincey Bingle! 😂

Mine are quite full in comparison. My eldest wanted to be Thomas the tank engine for a while. He had a thankfully short lived obsession with tender cars, but he couldn't enunciate it properly and it sounded like tentacle.
He had one morning of wanting to be a girl. Now he wants to be a YouTuber and stream himself playing computer games.

As for ds2 - he wanted to be a transformer for a while. Not too much of a problem until he decided to go into car mode, which involves curling up into a little ball, at the top of an escalator.

At 4 my DD wanted to be a cat or a fairy when she grew up. We dropped her off at university on Friday to start her BA, but unfortunately she had to choose a different career as they did not offer degrees in either Feline or Fey!

Rachelover60 · 15/09/2019 18:55

Sweet. When I was a child I had a friend who was a tree branch, I screamed when my mum tried to take it away from me. I'd walked home from school with it, talking to it all the time. She didn't want 'that dirty thing' in the house but in the end she gave in to me. I must have been six, going on seven maybe.

Ithinkmycatisevil · 15/09/2019 18:56

He sounds fab! I’d quite like to be a pain au chocolate myself.

When dd2 was small she used to cry about the fact she didn’t have ice powers.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/09/2019 19:03

DD has in the last year announced that she is

Owlette off PJ Masks

"Dinner"

Ballachie the Cross Spider (he had his own song, it was quite an earworm)

The Terrible Potato (he "lived in a cave with all the other angry vegetables")

pointythings · 15/09/2019 19:10

My DDs never wanted to be anything particularly creative, but my Dsis wanted to be a horse until she was about 9. She now runs a livery stable, competes in high level dressage and teachers riding.

I see OP's DS on Bake Off in a few years' time...

Confrontayshunme · 15/09/2019 19:32

I had a whole group of 9 year old girls who were OBSESSED with pineapples. They even talked about what it would be like being pineapples. It was exceedingly odd to me, but not super different from the boys who were all obsessed with Fortnite and footballers. They are all in secondary school now with no lasting damage. Grin

DashOfMagic · 15/09/2019 19:37

I’m ridiculously impressed you were baking pain au chocolat from scratch.

misses the point

Your LO sounds adorable and perfectly reasonable.

Iwantacookie · 15/09/2019 19:41

Normal for a 2 year old.
I overheard my ds2(9) and his friend(8) arguing over who was going to be Hilary Clinton Confused
So it can continue beyond the toddler years.

justbefuddleme · 15/09/2019 19:43

I love your child, I can't think of anything I'd rather be either

TidaQuel · 15/09/2019 19:44

My DD wanted to be a snake when she was 3. She slithered the whole way home from nursery- must’ve taken nearly 2 hours!

Serin · 15/09/2019 19:49

I love your DC.

thewayoftheplatypus · 15/09/2019 19:51

I think it would be lovely to be a pain au chocolate, though a tad too cosy in the oven!
Sounds normal to me- DS (3) asks me to chop his hand off every single day so he can have a pirate hook, and DS (6) has genuine aspirations of wizardry.

Lonelykettleshed · 15/09/2019 19:51

This is lovely. I wanted to be the speaking clock when I was little.

ChikiTIKI · 15/09/2019 19:56

My toddler wants to be a puppet show. Also wants to put a story in her pocket :)

GrainOfSalt · 15/09/2019 19:57

Mine is a cat. Has been for many years now. Very cross I won't buy cat nip.

Drogonssmile · 15/09/2019 20:05

My 3 year old DS is a fluffy chicken apparently.

Trumpleton · 15/09/2019 20:06

This is so cute!
I wanted to be a kangaroo. A Year 1 child once answered our annual 'how so you come to school/how would you prefer to come to school' survey with "magic carpet" which I love Star
Also love the stories where the children actually became (near enough!) their childhood dream!!

Amanduh · 15/09/2019 20:15

My 2yo wants to be a T Rex, but if not he’ll happily be a boat.

Timandra · 15/09/2019 20:16

One of DD1's friends stood up in a school activity and announced loudly that when he grew up, he wanted to be a terrorist. His father was a parent helper for the activity Grin

PrimeMumister · 15/09/2019 20:17

Mine has been a puppy all day today, she's 2 Grin love their imagination

15thOctober2019 · 15/09/2019 20:17

I’m ridiculously impressed you were baking pain au chocolat from scratch.

You just pull it out of the pilsbury tube and pop it in the oven,

NotQuiteUsual · 15/09/2019 20:18

My son wants to either be a house, which he also lives in. A light. Or a woodpecker.
