It feels blimmin cold to me in the evening but I don't normally turn it on until the end of this month. Maybe I'm just getting older and feeling the chill ... 10th September would be a record I think!

North East coast. We've had it on one evening for a couple of hours, which seems to have taken the chill out of the house. We will use it when we need to though neither of us can stand being cold. We have a cut of a battle on with elderly mil who lives with us in her own suite of rooms and insists on having her windows open, whilst she sits clad in blouse, jumper, shawl and woolie hat! When we put the heating on we insist on windows closed, or turn her radiators down/off. By October she will want the heating on though, it's just this in-between phase.

Redred2429 · 11/09/2019 10:08

Yes but I just got a new Central heating system so think it's more that I'm excited about playing with it haha I could probably have waited longer to start using it

joystir59 · 11/09/2019 10:09

Our thermostat is set to 18 when the heating is on.

user1471590586 · 11/09/2019 10:10

Our heating self regulates so we dont actually turn it off or on. We have certain temperatures set up in time periods and it comes on if it dips below that. Think it must have been cold the other morning as when we got up we noticed it had come on.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/09/2019 10:13

I've put it on a couple of times to take the chill off the air, but quickly got too hot and turned it off again. Trying to use it less for environmental reasons anyway.

ButterflyOne1 · 11/09/2019 10:20

Nope. I've decided since my gas and electric have increased from £80pm to £164pm (no idea bloody why!!) that I'm refusing to turn the heating on until November. I'll just put more clothes on.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/09/2019 11:03

No but I've put my winter duvet on

tillytrotter1 · 11/09/2019 11:10

Yesterday it got so hot in the garden that I took off my t-shirt to work but then it dropped very quickly. I always refuse to use the heating before October, it's been 18-20 inside all week and that's OK.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/09/2019 11:20

Not yet. I usually change the thermostat to 18 at the end of September (unless it’s still really quite warm out). Depending on how cold it’s dropping we’ll sometimes have it set to 20 when Winter sets in. Always 16 overnight though from October- March/April. I stay at home so we don’t use a timer but I don’t tend to have it on all that much, it is just usually from 6-8:30 then 4-6:30. It has to be very cold in the house for me to manually turn it on. The bathroom has an electric heater with it’s own thermostat (again set to 18) that I’ll turn in the next week or so. It doesn’t cost that much & it can be brutally cold in there (think see your breath cold) as it’s an old house & it has 2 external walls. It also won’t get any sunlight really to help keep the temp up from the end of the month.

YouFellAsleeep · 11/09/2019 11:20

I’ve had mine on a few times for an hour in the morning over the last week or so. It’s been pretty chilly in the morning (Scotland) and if I’m cold, or if my son is cold, I’m not going to leave the heating off out of some kind of protest because it shouldn’t be on yet!

nononever · 11/09/2019 17:55

Bloody hell you need to change suppliers! Either that check no-one is tapping into your leccy supply to run their mini cannabis farm.

c3pu · 11/09/2019 18:02

I had a nightmare the other day. It was the middle of August, 24C, windows open. Lovely day.

Then somebody felt a bit chilly and turned the heating on. Windows open and everything. Nobody else said anything, they all just stood by and let it happen. I was powerless to intervene.

Long story short - no, my heating is not on. I usually last until November.

Justgorgeous · 11/09/2019 18:04

Absolutely not !

Nonmerci · 11/09/2019 18:05

I have my fan on! It’s 18 degrees here today but feels very stuffy, apparently will be 20-22 degrees over the next week.

Nonmerci · 11/09/2019 18:05

Yeah, Npower doubled our monthly bill from £100 to £200!! We have switched suppliers.

Mummyshark2019 · 11/09/2019 18:12

Yes. Has been on since last week.

HeronLanyon · 11/09/2019 20:00

rubyduby fully agree. Best ever sleep when windows open, snow outside and completely snuggled under heavy duvet with cats or people (person actually) alongside. Never happier.

FatherFintanFay · 11/09/2019 20:11

Eh, kind of. I have pet snakes so I've had to switch on the little portable heater overnight in the room they're kept in. The rest of the flat won't be heated until the temperature drops into single figures, and my bedroom won't be at all. I can't abide heated bedrooms. Being fat and menopausal keeps me sufficiently warm, thanks!

transformandriseup · 11/09/2019 20:15

If our house had heating (we’re being connected this month) I would consider putting it on.

Bapman · 11/09/2019 20:17

Definitely! I’m bloody freezing

Ronsters · 11/09/2019 20:23

Mine has come on a few times, mainly mornings. It comes on if it goes below 19 degrees. Bit warmer yesterday and today.

nononever · 11/09/2019 20:43

I can't abide heated bedrooms.

Same here, can't stand a stuffy bedroom. I don't feel the cold but I guess I'm acclimatised living in the far north.

Namaste6 · 11/09/2019 23:01

Yes!! It's never off. I live in Scotland.

stayathomer · 11/09/2019 23:04

In Ireland, finally turned it on today even though was wearing fluffy socks and jumpers over the past few weeks! Had to get plumber out as it had been off so long it had seized ( May I think was when it was last on!)

fanniboz · 11/09/2019 23:06

Not yet but I've threatened to put it on a few times in my head!
