To ask what's for dinner now the weather has changed?

It's wet, miserable and cold today. So, I'm thinking of making a goulash tonight, I'm searching recipes now.

I love a soup or stew for dinner when it's cold, with fresh buttery bread!

What are you having?

Have just batch cooked a five bean chilli and a coconut vegetable curry. It's just me on my own so am trying to fill the freezer with autumn comfort foods in individual portions.

Have another batch cook afternoon planned tomorrow!

Then I'll be bored, won't fancy anything I've made and go back to ping meals for one no doubt!! 🤣😂🙄🤷‍♀️

IAmALazyArse · 09/09/2019 20:21

@LazyFace I apologise. I just googled. I thought the veg was just for goulash soup🙈
Our area does it just plain with no extra veg.

Bunnylady53 · 09/09/2019 20:36

Whoever it was - don’t you mean fried eggs instead of steak, not instead of chips for the veggies?

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 09/09/2019 20:49

Pasta and meatballs 😋😋😋

WinterRose92 · 09/09/2019 20:58

We had sausages, mash, peas & Yorkshire puds with gravy - my son demolished his!
Cheered us up on a cold, rainy day.

TheGonnagle · 09/09/2019 20:59

Vietnamese lamb hotpot and rice.

StrumpersPlunkett · 09/09/2019 21:04

Yanbu to ask but why not put this in the Food/Recipes section?

We had chick pea, chroizo and tomato stew with spinach and some ciabatta bread.

delilahbucket · 09/09/2019 21:16

We had a taco lasagne. Not made it before but it was yummy. Proper comfort food when it's cold outside.

hellinabreadbasket · 09/09/2019 21:39

@StrumpersPlunkett wow that’s organised!

TheClitterati · 09/09/2019 21:40

Chicken and vege soup with spicy cheese scones. Delicious.

CheshireChat · 09/09/2019 21:41

Bunnylady53 just a heads up, alcohol doesn't evaporate quite as much as commonly believed so I wouldn't cook stuff with wine or similar for a child.

LazyFace · 09/09/2019 21:42

IAmA : Not sure where you're from but I learnt off the internet just recently that goulash seems to be a name for an 'everything in it' stew in the US. Including cheese and hamburgers. :-)
I think the ingredients differ from region to region in Hungary. I never actually cooked one.

dementedma · 09/09/2019 21:45

Tonight I had half a tub of coleslaw and a chunk of home made apple cake for dinner
Lunch was home made split pea and ham soup

WhyBirdStop · 09/09/2019 21:48

Yesterday chicken stew, with loads of root veg and dumplings, tonight salmon, jacket potato, asparagus and tenderstem broccoli. I'm a bit over salads by this point in the year, not quite cracking out the slow cooker yet though.

hazandduck · 09/09/2019 22:45

Omg @CheshireChat I always thought the alcohol content completely cooked off...my toddler devoured a plate of coq au vin the other week! 🙈

IAmALazyArse · 09/09/2019 22:53

@LazyFace not just hungary. It's really popular in Eastern and Central Europe.
But like with potato salad, everyone has their variation and all other variations are a blasphemy😂
We also have goulash soup which is again different.

I am about to do a week long cook out when I fill a freezer up for next month when I am busy. Loving this thread!

tillytrotter1 · 09/09/2019 22:54

Delia's pork stroganoff with three mustards, rice and salad
Corned beef hash and pickled red cabbage
Chicken and prawn stir fry
Belly pork with apples and lots of fresh sage, cooked in dry cider, a slow cooker meal.
Lits of things with corn on the cob, it's like a scene from Oklahoma at the bottom of the garden

RolyWatts · 09/09/2019 22:54

@dementedma That sounds awesome but I would have had to have some Cheddar with that apple cake and coleslaw.

I made an amazing gluten and sugar free carrot and apple cake a couple of days ago. Wasn't expecting it to be good but it was delish.

tillytrotter1 · 09/09/2019 22:54

Lits?? Lots

SidekickSally · 09/09/2019 23:14

Sweet and sour tofu with noodles tonight. Very warming and delicious. Batch cooked a orzo pasta bake with aubergine and courgettes for tomorrow, jacket potato for Weds, pick and mix (meaning anything we can find in the freezer) for Thursday and pie and mash with apple crumble for Friday 😋

autumnleaves15 · 10/09/2019 05:01

Bookmarking! I also love when autumn arrives and winter cooking is upon us. I also adore my slow cooker in winter.

Carrot soup with orange, ginger and honey. Pea and ham soup. Any soup...

Pasta with slow cooked meat sauces.

Lamb shank with mustard mash and lots of veg.

Chilli and rice.

Baked potatoes with cheese and beans.

Stews, casseroles, curries, mac and cheese.
