It's wet, miserable and cold today. So, I'm thinking of making a goulash tonight, I'm searching recipes now.

I love a soup or stew for dinner when it's cold, with fresh buttery bread!

What are you having?

Ooh I like this thread - good to get some ideas! Quick stir fry tonight as I'm going to the gym but was thinking of chilli for tomorrow, might do it in the slow cooker now.

Zhx3 · 09/09/2019 13:16

I got some stewing lamb reduced. I browned it, then softened some onions. Put it into a covered roaster with cubed carrots, celeriac and new potatoes (what was left in the fridge from a ham and veg soup I'd made). I added a litre of lamb stock, a splash of red wine, a bunch of sage and rosemary from the garden and loads of black pepper. Cooked it all in a low oven for a couple of hours then thickened it with some Bisto granules.

Had it with brown basmati rice, it was lovely!

SallyWD · 09/09/2019 13:17

Chicken casserole, sausage casserole and a fish pie are what we're having for the next 3 nights.

AngelicInnocent · 09/09/2019 13:18

Giant Yorkshire puddings filled with Braised steak, carrots and parsnips with plenty of mashed potato.

Bit of an experiment though as DD is recently gluten free so first time I've tried gluten free Yorkshire puddings.

Span1elsRock · 09/09/2019 13:20

We're having a herb crusted side of salmon (layer of philadelhia topped with breadcrumbs, dill, lemon zest and parsley) roasted in the oven with baked potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and baby carrots.

I've just had salad for lunch and it's made me feel cold Sad

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 09/09/2019 13:24

I was all set for a delicious slow cooked cottage pie (but with dumplings instead of mash) yesterday.

But it (inexplicably) came out really badly and I was SO disappointed! Sad

To the point I am considering binning the remaining 2 portions rather than make myself eat them.

(It's edible enough, but just not that creamy, warm, cosy taste it should have. Bins are collected tomorrow so I need to decide today)

Pork chops braised in apple, sage & mustard sauce. Cauliflower cheese and broccoli

GameSetMatch · 09/09/2019 13:30

M&S pasta ready meals 😂 eldest DC has tennis so it’s always a rubbish micro meal on a Monday.

PhilomenaButterfly · 09/09/2019 13:31

Chicken, chorizo and king prawn paella.

Pinacola · 09/09/2019 13:34

We had beef bourginon(sp?) in the oven yesterday. I have casseroles in the warm weather, but use the slow cooker, to reduce heat in the kitchen! It was so gooey and rich with mash and green veggies. DH is away tonight, so I'm having fajitas tonight, once small people are in bed.

ElizaDee · 09/09/2019 13:43

@BuzzShitbagBobbly Ahh I'm sorry :(

I'm putting atora dumplings in my goulash. It's not really a goulash anymore as I'm putting carrots and potatoes in it too.

OP posts:
BuzzShitbagBobbly · 09/09/2019 13:47

I used Atora as well! Proper dumplings! (Actually they came out ok, it was the meat that let it down)

I think I have made the decision to bin it. I have very little food waste overall so this is hardly the eco crime of the year. And we have a food waste programme here as well.

Whistle73 · 09/09/2019 13:52

@Goldenbear - the pear and rosemary chicken and sugar potatoes sound very lovely - have you got a recipe you can share?

Loopydizzylove · 09/09/2019 13:52

So now I feel like the laziest person in the world... All my dc are out at sports clubs today so I'm on frozen pizza duty when we get back in.... But I did splurge on a tiger bread pepperoni pizza so not all doom and gloom Blush

ElizaDee · 09/09/2019 13:52

@BuzzShitbagBobbly Could you give it away on the olio app?

IAmALazyArse · 09/09/2019 13:53

I am muting this thread now😂

Ponoka7 · 09/09/2019 13:53

@cocomelon23
"It's hardly cold though"

That depends on where you live.

Most people see September as the start of autumn.

ElizaDee · 09/09/2019 13:54

@Loopydizzylove Don't feel lazy, it's swings and roundabouts isn't it. Last night we were so lazy we were just going to have oven chips and beans. Which turned into chips on their own as neither of us could be arsed to do beans.

OP posts:
Fizzypoo · 09/09/2019 13:56

I've got a gammon in the slow cooker and will make homemade garlicky chips, with beans and an egg.

What I really want is cheesy potato pie and sausages.

Tomorrow is chicken, chorizo creamy pasta and Thursdays meal is looking a lot like goulash now this thread has put the idea in my head!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/09/2019 13:58

Chilli, which I took out of the freezer last night, with rice, tortilla chips, and salsa, soured cream, and guacamole. We had chicken fajitas last night so the dips left over from then.

spottyowls · 09/09/2019 13:58

This was me this morning! Googling winter recipes!

Gone for slow roasted brisket with red wine gravy, mashed swede, potatoes, and veg! More than my usual Monday efforts but smells soooo good in the oven on a miserable day!

Paddington68 · 09/09/2019 13:59

Had beans on toast last night.
Lovely.

Amazonita · 09/09/2019 13:59

Did a roast yesterday, hadn't done one in ages, with sautéed cabbage, leeks and garlic as one of the sides.

Have decided I can't get enough of leeks so doing cheesy mashed potatoes with sautéed leeks for dinner, Lincolnshire sausages (veggie ones for me), carrots and peas.

Thinking about doing a cottage pie tomorrow (separate lentil one for me) with a cheesy potato and leek topping too.

Seem to have a fetish for potatoes and leeks at the moment, and custard now it's colder.

NotQuiteUsual · 09/09/2019 13:59

Beef and potato pie mother fuckers!

Gonna paint the pie crust to look like a Rainbow.

CheshireChat · 09/09/2019 14:06

I want some oven baked polenta with cheddar, feta, mozzarella maybe and perhaps some bacon or kabanos sausages with cream mixed in.

I'll probably have some grilled chicken thighs and new potatoes with some veg.

Or frozen pizzas as I seem to have caught a cold this morning when dropping DS off to school- we were horribly late to top it off AngrySad
