To ask what's for dinner now the weather has changed?

It's wet, miserable and cold today. So, I'm thinking of making a goulash tonight, I'm searching recipes now.

I love a soup or stew for dinner when it's cold, with fresh buttery bread!

What are you having?

Shepherd's pie, made with left over roast lamb from yesterday. Served with runner beans.

dollydaydream114 · 09/09/2019 12:24

We had a nice hot curry last night and it was lovely. I think tonight we're going to have a Thai beef stir-fry with sticky rice and lots of warming spices.

A mountain of chilli is my go-to winter meal and also my DP's all-time favourite. I also like a good old slow-cooker casserole or stew - a nice traditional beef stew, a chicken casserole or a lovely Moroccan lamb.

I'm about to go for a run in the pouring rain so I may have to focus on everyone's warming food suggestions to keep me motivated Confused

ElizaDee · 09/09/2019 12:24

This goulash will probably keep us going for a few days. I might make a lasagna after this has gone. Last time I made the pinch of nom/slimming world one and used butternut squash instead of pasta and it was delicious.

Oxtail ragu and past :)

It was cooking for hours on the stove yesterday and I can't wait to enjoy it tonight.
I'm also planning jacket potatoes one night this week and also homemade hot sausage rolls with bramley apples.

Pear and rosemary chicken and Danish sugar browned potatoes - inspired by a recent holiday!

Nousernameforme · 09/09/2019 12:27

Beef and barley stew here. First time making it and first time cooking with barley. Its dirt cheap and supposedly very good for you.

Beef stew. 😋

@Ithoughtyouwere when I put too much liquids in at the beginning I used to transfer the sauce (soup at that point) into a pot and reduce it on a cooker. Much faster.

@ElizaDee
Cheep beef, same weight of very finely chopped onion as the beef, paprika, mustard, tomato puree, caraway, marjoram, garlic.
First on a dry pan, heat up caraway. I add some mustard seeds too. Then crush.
Use really big pot now.
Fry the onion until brown (colour of onion dictates darkness of the sauce), add the meat, spices, garlic, salt and pepper, if you want it spicy, add some chili. Keep stirring. Mix properly and keep stirring until the meat closes off and then cover. The longer the meat cooks in it's own juices, the better. Then add water, tomato puree, mustard (careful with English mustard it's very horseradishy). Let simmer. Keep tasting to see if it needs more salt/pepper/paprika etc. I like to throw in extra beef stock for flavour.
Keep cooking until the meat is soft.

Also. Goulash is best the next day😁 We cook it day in advance😁

FinnBalorsAbs · 09/09/2019 12:31

Toad in the hole tonight, with roast potatoes and broccoli, it’s the weather for it!

KeithFitt · 09/09/2019 12:34

Chicken & Leek Filo Pie with Green veg & mash potato. I love comforting meals when the temperature drops. 😍

Yabadee · 09/09/2019 12:36

Tatties and mince tonight I can’t wait

GraceVanPelt · 09/09/2019 12:37

I'm looking forward to a great long list of meals, this is my favourite time of year food-wise:

chilli with chuck and chorizo, cooked low and slow
sausage and bean casserole
lamb meatball rogan josh
chicken and leek pie
sausage and pumpkin stew
risotto with roasted squash, pancetta, chestnut and sage
cottage pie
stufatino (Italian beef stew)
carbonnades (Belgian beef stew with garlic bread on top)
celeriac, pancetta and thyme soup
sausage and chestnut pasta

Tonight is Thai yellow curry with lots of veggies!

Cornishgirl18 · 09/09/2019 12:39

Homemade Mac n Cheese with my secret additions ...a glug of cider vinegar, cayenne pepper and a tsp of marmite. Best mac n cheese ever. Will probably serve with some salad and garlic bread.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 09/09/2019 12:45

Only person I know that changes food for the weather is my Granny!

Anyway tonight we’ve got chicken breast in tarragon, cream sauce (will add white wine to the sauce for me and dh, but not the dc) with potatoe wedges, peas and broccoli.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I did last time I think. I used smoked paprika though. I have my recipe somewhere at home, which I wrote on when I made it before but I'm not sure where it is. I really need to get my arse in gear with my recipe book. I got the suk uk family one, but haven't written a thing in it yet!

Homemade mushroom soup made with loads of open cup mushrooms, herbs, garlic, some potato to thicken the texture slightly. Just eaten a bowl with cheddar crumbled I to it. Dark, intensely mushrooms, very good and satisfying! Love soup! Love my hand blender!

joystir59 · 09/09/2019 12:58

The mushrooms were on special offer.ni tend to make soup with whatever is seasonal/cheap

IAmALazyArse · 09/09/2019 12:59

@ElizaDee You are welcome. I don't even have it written down 🙈 Goulash lover here.

used smoked paprika though
😮 Sinner😂 Sweet paprika is the best imho. But everyone has a different taste buds and every family has slightly different recipes.

cocomelon23 · 09/09/2019 12:59

It's hardly cold though Confused

Annutumarien · 09/09/2019 13:09

Autumn / winter is my absolute favourite time to cook! I love making big batches of hearty meals! Tonight we're having spaghetti bolognese, simple but warming, filling, cheap and a family favourite.

My meal planner is full of stews, chilli dishes, curry, pasta meals and casseroles, we got a slow cooker earlier this year and it's honestly the best thing for cooking this time of year.

Furries · 09/09/2019 13:11

@ElizaDee - I’d love to say that I’m making it myself, however am being far too lazy for that! It’s from M&S and only cost £2 for no effort whatsoever 🤣

Londonmummy66 · 09/09/2019 13:14

Penne with quick pork mince sauce (passata/onion/garlic/pesto/grated carrot and pork mince) - I'm out to night so need something quicker than a full blown bolognese.

ElizaDee · 09/09/2019 13:14

@Furries Grin Love an M&S meal!

Goulash, almost exactly @IAmALazyArse's recipe too. I made enough to freeze.

I have a pot of chili planned for later this week, and some maple mustard chicken (not a slow cooker recipe but still easy.)
