Are wax melts chavvy?

This is the opinion of a good friend when I told her that I had recently bought a few melts and a burner: 'Oh don't get into them, they are SO chavvy!'

I just want my house to not stink of baby wipes and crisp crumbs ffs!

I think coloured or perfumed candles are a bit Next living room. I don’t mind church candles.

NoTheresa · 12/09/2019 18:06

Dislike perfumed stick things in oil too and ant plug-in fakery.

NoTheresa · 12/09/2019 18:06

...and any

NoTheresa · 12/09/2019 18:10

What is an MLM?

Ah yes, exactly! I couldn't think how to say it, but that's it!

mumderland · 12/09/2019 18:24

I make wax melts and they are definitely not chavvy! I have customers of varying ages and backgrounds

PookieDo · 12/09/2019 18:26

Where do you buy soy wax melts?

Taggle · 12/09/2019 18:44

I imagine they're as common as hell, but who cares, we're all going to be fucked either after Brexit or after climate collapse in twelve years time and by God I'll ride off on a waft of apple and cinnamon melt if I please, no regrets, yahhh Grin

ellesworth · 12/09/2019 18:51

An MLM is one of those things you see in Facebook groups promising you will earn £££ selling makeup, candles, moisturiser, slimming shakes etc. When in reality 99% of people lose money from them and the only way you earn anything is to sucker someone else in to take a cut of their sales.
Some examples are Younique, Juice Plus, Darcey's Candles, Scentsy.

I personally love wax melts, I got some nice ones from a company called Callans Candles and they've lasted ages.

Stickybeaksid · 12/09/2019 18:54

Think they are a bit naff. So are yankee candles and zolflora. Very Mrs Hinch

thornyhousewife · 12/09/2019 19:24

Definitely peak chav.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 12/09/2019 19:28

Just as a warning to anyone who thinks burning essential oils because they are ‘natural ‘ and therefore safe needs to be aware many are toxic to cats and dogs, only certain ones are ok, might be worth checking the list you make sure you are not harming your pets.

ChicCroissant · 12/09/2019 20:04

Zoflora came in with the ark, it was going well before Mrs Hinch! I've used Zoflora for years after I saw my MIL using it.

I used Clary Sage in my oil burner yesterday, lovely!

jamoncrumpet · 12/09/2019 20:05

Who would buy this scent?! WHY?!

I don't shop much in Next but can someone enlighten me on what is Next Living Room?

Blue7 · 14/09/2019 01:22

I'm sad because nobody has let me know how terrible Next Living Rooms are. So confused.

HerondaleDucks · 14/09/2019 01:42

Genuinely thought that said chewy then 🙄

AliciaQuays · 14/09/2019 01:48

Yeah. They are

ourkidmolly · 14/09/2019 08:22

@NoTheresa
Did you miss the bit of the thread where @jamoncrumpet called me thick as I hadn't heard of the term MLM either? I'm glad there's someone else who's missed this crappy phenomena! The stuff being sold looks pretty ropey. I've never seen any of it on Facebook etc. I guess the bots in your search engines know you're not interested.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 14/09/2019 14:16

Blue my interpretation of a Next living room is everything brand, new, everything completely matching, lots of off the shelf artwork and generic accessories, all perfectly pleasant and inoffensive but a bit soulless.

absopugginglutely · 14/09/2019 14:24

This is a hilarious thread title!

RosesAndRaindrops · 14/09/2019 15:05

Your friend's being weird, how the hell are they chavvy?! They've been around for yonks and just like candles!
Maybe she means they're quite popular at the moment with for example Mrs Hinch is right into them, so they seem to be everywhere lol?!
Love wax melts and candles here.

Blue7 · 14/09/2019 22:08

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo

I understand. One of my best friends has one of those. It looks lovely and it probably irritates her that mine isn't.
