Are wax melts chavvy?

This is the opinion of a good friend when I told her that I had recently bought a few melts and a burner: 'Oh don't get into them, they are SO chavvy!'

I just want my house to not stink of baby wipes and crisp crumbs ffs!

You are a bit thick @ourkidmolly if you have got this far in modern society without encountering the term MLM, yes

Well. I guess I'm "a bit thick", then. Angry

jamoncrumpet · 08/09/2019 20:54

I'm firing one up now. Sod it. How bad can it be?

I bought some in Bolongia , they were picknmix in a nice kitchen shop

TooTrueToBeGood · 08/09/2019 20:56

Judging others as chavvy is so all fur coat and nae knickers.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 08/09/2019 20:56

I hate the word chavvy. But I do think that wax melts are a bit naff. In a way that a nice big candle is not. Or real flowers. Or a bowl of potpourri. So whilst I’d not have said what your friend said I would have thought other things might have been a better choice.

jamoncrumpet · 08/09/2019 21:00

These smell... weird. Like if you put lavender in a room with a load of chemical carcinogens and then set fire to it,

Oooh Potpourri that’s nostalgic

PookieDo · 08/09/2019 21:04

If I spray anything in my house my dog will sneeze and sneeze and sneeze. Mrs H’s dog must be made of steel

dowehaveastalker · 08/09/2019 21:05

Yup. Everything bar Dyptique is chavvy.... kidding. You’re friend is being silly. (Dyptique is quite nice though)

ElizaPancakes · 08/09/2019 21:07

I like them, I buy them from a local company. My favourite is gingerbread and espresso together, but only at Christmas time.

If that makes me chavvy so be it.

Ktay · 08/09/2019 21:08

Not rtft Blush but they’re not great for air quality

Propertyofhood · 08/09/2019 21:08

Yes Wehttam has nailed it, they are very 'hun'.

Also associated with 'Live, Laugh, Love' and 'Prosecco O' Clock ' wall decorations!

Breathlessness · 08/09/2019 21:12

I have no idea what they smell like but I rather like this brand

Are wax melts chavvy?
topcat2014 · 08/09/2019 21:13

Surely your house is supposed to smell of wet labradors, barbour jackets, and the oil fired aga..

Iamthewombat · 08/09/2019 21:15

Is Mrs Hinch one of those awful ersatz tv wannabes (‘influencers’), all of whom used to work on make up counters in Norwich?

Wehttam · 08/09/2019 21:16

@topcat2014mine smells however the cleaner wishes to leave it 😂

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/09/2019 21:17

Someone bought me a burner and melt things a few years ago. I use the burner with a little bit of oil in water instead - the White Company “winter” oil is amazing at Christmas, otherwise I use a few drops of lavender oil.

MerryMarigold · 08/09/2019 21:17

Yes. They. Are

MerryMarigold · 08/09/2019 21:18

PS. A house that smells of baby wipes and crisps (particularly if they are Monster Munch Pickled Onion), sounds perfect to me.

Shortfeet · 08/09/2019 21:18

Yea, a bit

Cherrysherbet · 08/09/2019 21:19

For those asking why you would use a wax melt instead of a candle....my reason is that I have an electric one, so no naked flame. Imo they give a nice, subtle fragrance, and that’s why I like them. Also, to get the wax out, you put the holder in the freezer for 30 mins, and it slips out...easy peasy 😉

Didn’t know I am viewed as a chav though! How bizarre!

MerryMarigold · 08/09/2019 21:19

(Perhaps a Monster Munch wax melt would be less chavvy though, and just pretty cool).

Lowlandlucky · 08/09/2019 21:19

Are they like the Scent chips that they used to sell at parties in the 90s

ClemDanFango · 08/09/2019 21:20

Tell her to ‘Live, Love, Laugh.’

amysaurus87 · 08/09/2019 21:23

I don't think they are chavvy but they are the 'thing' of the moment with MLMs selling them all over Instagram. This alone puts me off using them.
