To bloody scream at Hermes 'delivery'

Sorry but posting mainly for traffic.

I was a due a delivery today from an order from Amazon. Came in from work (three other people in the house all morning). No parcel. Fine.

Chatting to my DD on the settee that faces the road.
A white van pulls up outside my neighbours a couple of doors up. Said to DD that might be my parcel.
No-one walked past my house.
No-one rang my bell
No-one knocked on my very loud knocker.
Assumed wasn't said parcel.

Checked on email and it says 'Tried to deliver but driver didn't want to leave it unattended' but to check calling card for number to ring re re-delivery.

Rang 'customer services' and the automated thing says delivered to unspecified location and to check calling card - I DON'T BLOODY HAVE A CALLING CARD!!!!!!!

Checked with neighbours - nope, no delivery to them either.

So where on Earth is my bloody parcel that I want for the weekend???!!!!!!

'Customer service' doesn't seem to exist!

I am fuming!!!!!!

Is my parcel somewhere in my street or will they try again tomorrow when it might be missed???!!!!!

Sorry, I'm rambling because I'm fricking fuming!!!!!

So, AIBU to want to bloody shout from the rooftops how utterly shit Hermes delivery is and more importantly, does anyone have a number that I can ring to actually talk to a human being?????

Even a live web/chat!

Anything!!!!!!!!

😫😤😡

A lot of the delivery companies won't put the card through your door but will stick it in the frame of the door instead so might be worth having a look around to check if it's fallen off.

@ossomMummy1 has it.

I've worked in a CEO's office before - they're empowered to do what ever is safe and legal to resolve a complaint (subject to the complaint being legitimate - the amount of complaints that are just whinging is unbelievable).

Whenever I have an issue, I email the CEO with a factual explanation and a preferred (reasonable and justifiable) resolution and it gets sorted.

I must be among the few who get a great service from Hermes. Our local couriers are a young couple and they're smashing.

I do think couriers are under a ridiculous amount of pressure. One time, I took in a delivery and the driver said he shouldn't have delivered it just then as it was 10 mins early and, being rural, we were last for the day. Why should he have to hang around! He just clicked later on to say he'd delivered it after the appropriate time, so he could get away home. I was astonished!

bananasandwicheseveryday · 05/09/2019 17:35

Our Hermes lady is great - she makes sure to deliver at times she knows someone is here. And just this week I've had a parcel arrive three days earlier than the sender told me. Amazon on the other hand! Recently followed a package in the map only for it to disappear. When I contacted Amazon they told me they couldn't deliver it as my address 'doesn't exist '! Now, given that I've lived here for over 30 years AND I've been ordering from Amazon for twenty of those years, with no problems, I did wonder whether I'd entered a Bermuda triangle type zone and my house had been miraculously transported to some parallel universe! However, since they were able to deliver the package with no problems at all the following morning, I suspect they just decided that they couldn't be bothered as it was getting late in the day and they wanted to get home.

Crochetymum · 05/09/2019 17:35

Hermes are shit, they leave my parcel outside in full view to get robbed

Lowlandlucky · 05/09/2019 17:43

Had a text from Hermes yesterday saying my parcel would be here today, got another text this morning saying Gary would deliver the parcel between 15:34 and 16:34 today , parcel was here at 15:36, sometimes they get it right, tbh our parcels are always on time

@rainbowstardrops click on the pic, go on the website (visible on pic) and on the circled icon. They reply pretty fast

rainbowstardrops · 05/09/2019 18:09

@OssomMummy1 that's useful. I have the name of the man I spoke from Amazon

@Bubbletrouble43 unfortunately there seems to be many of us that need to rant Sad
I asked the guy at the end of the phone to Amazon, why they still use them and he just told me to lodge a complaint.

I think we all should!

Lowlandlucky

They all seemed to be called Gary Grin. I always believed that was my old Hermes drivers real name (he was a total angel) and then I moved house and got a text to say Gary would be delivering my parcel I was very happy. But it wasn't Gary Shock it was someone I used to go to school with who definitely isn't called Gary Grin.

MoobaaMoobaa · 05/09/2019 18:41

I Hate Hermes, and have sometimes refused to buy from retailer who use them.

we have a gate that needs opening, which means the local Hermes delivery people just don't bother.

I've had SO many arguements with them, in the past I've managed to find a phone number through extensive searching, but it's just so stress full. I haven't bother for a couple of years.

I now email whoever I bought off and tell them, That the company they have used are incompetent and liers. As I have CCTV evidence that no one has come anywhere near the gate let alone popped a calling card in the box, I presume my paid for items have actually just been nicked by the drive. I'd like clarification that my goods will be delivered the next day, or I will take a full refund.

fingers crossed miraculously they turn up the next day, and once later the same day.

They are wise to us now and have tried a couple of times to pretend that our address doesn't show on their system. I don't engage with them, just go straight to the retailer again. Hermes suddenly seem to find our address again. Twats.

MuddlingMackem · 05/09/2019 18:59

@Owlish, in that instance, it may be that the driver handed over the wrong parcel in error and either he or the signatory realised so he put it back on the van and delivered it to you later. That does happen sometimes.

Boreda · 05/09/2019 19:00

I’m a Hermes courier Blush. When you speak to someone on live chat they can send a message through to the couriers device that you urgently need the item or tell them to pass your number onto the courier, don’t leave them fob you off as they can get hold of the courier.

PivotPivotPivottt · 05/09/2019 19:12

Boreda

That is interesting thanks for posting this I am going to try that tomorrow. And I must say I have always suspected the problems with Hermes are within the depot rather than the driverw being at fault. I think someone posted further up that often couriers arrive at the house to find the parcel isn't even in their van.

proseccoaficionado · 05/09/2019 19:13

@rainbowstardrops you're very welcome❤️

Boreda · 05/09/2019 19:16

No problem, I think it’s a bit of both there’s bad and good couriers. Same as depos. To be honest the whole systems a bit of a shambles you get the impression they’re just trying to wing it.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 05/09/2019 19:38

yodel are the bastards up here, DPD are my favourites, and Hermes are iffy, BUT it's often not the actual delivery person, Hermes are absolute buggers for saying they have delivered your parcel so that they hit all their targets, when in reality it has not even left the depot.

main issue is here we are out the back of beyond and a good deal of local knowledge is required, and basically as soon as the drivers get to know everyone they bugger off to do something less stressful and the whole sorry charade starts all over again.

RickJames · 05/09/2019 19:49

They are brilliant here (tiny German village). When I lived in an urban area they weren't so good.

FireBloodAndIce · 05/09/2019 19:51

Hermes insisted my 4 parcels had been delivered to 'a safe space'. Actually when questioned they admitted they were in their van. Redelivery arranged and they lost two. Fucking shit and awful customer service.

MoobaaMoobaa · 05/09/2019 19:53

Boreda one time the driver had my number, given to them on 3 different occasions, still took nearly 2 weeks get it finally delivered. Other times the depot has said as the drivers don't have company a phone, then they are not expected to use their own to make work phone calls.

This is why I go straight to the retailer at the first sign of shenanigans, now.
I'm not messing around back and forth waiting days/weeks or never for stuff.
it gets delivered the next day or I cancel my order. it's less stressful.

The headache goes back to the retailer who then has to get the package back of Hermes.

MuddlingMackem · 05/09/2019 19:54

@MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours, if you're awkward to find, it might be worth adding delivery directions when you order and asking if the retailer can pass these on to the courier.
