To think this is the end of the Tories

…..as we know them.

None of them can agree with one another. It seems that there will be utter chaos when the Election is called as their Manifesto will be impossible to write.

So, wait, Maggie proposed it first? And yet it's called extreme left? Annie.. almost, but not quite. The difference is in the (not quite) detail and the fact that this is aimed at private landlords, not councils.

ReanimatedSGB · 04/09/2019 16:03

As has been said, quite a lot of Corbyn's 'terrifying hard left' policies are fairly bog-standard social democracy. But everything has lurched so scarily far to the right (again, driven and manipulated by the likes of Murdoch and the Daily Mail as much as by Aaron Banks and that lot) that anything other than bashing the poor and kicking out the forriners can be presented as rank Communism.

And there have always been a lot of 'ordinary' people who support the Conservatives but who remain perfectly decent: the people who see the Conservatives as the party of traditional family values, small business people, community support etc. (This was never very true of the actual party and its policies, and it isn't true at all now, but these basically nice people either believed it then or wish it was true now.)

BertrandRussell · 04/09/2019 16:04

Fair enough- if all that is right, then the suggestion will go nowhere. It’s not policy, not even a firm proposal. Focus on what's in the manifesto. Or what was in the last one. What’s the terrifying far left stuff in there?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/09/2019 16:07

leaders change and quickly as we have seen

That's what local Labour canvassers were saying before the last election, and yet Corbyn's still there. His own MPs rejected him by a massive margin and he's utterly failed to lead a sensible, electable opposition and yet still he's there, working with his cohorts to destroy a once-great party from within

Get rid of Corbyn (and McDonnell) and I'll consider voting Labour once more, but not until

LagunaBubbles · 04/09/2019 16:09

Well I can say that there will probably be less in Scotland after an election, in fact it might go as far as the old joke says, more pandas in Scotland than Tory MPs.

Alsohuman · 04/09/2019 16:09

Are you suggesting that all those people under 25 are rushing to register to vote to support the Tories @SingingLily? There are other parties.

SingingLily · 04/09/2019 16:12

There are other parties

My point too, Alsohuman. I rather think the Greens and the Lib Dems will benefit most. However, we will only know for sure when there is a general election.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/09/2019 16:13

What’s the terrifying far left stuff in there? I thought I had tyoed that the leftist stuff tends not to make it to manifesto. It is the balther that COrbyn and McDonnell feel free to put outthere as not quite promises to reel in some mor voters, or persuade the faithful that they are good guys, that is scary - you yourself thought the right to buy for tenant seemed to be a good thing... maybe... until the pitfalls were expained.

I say all of that as a lifelong Labour voter, one time member, who is now utterly politically homeless!

Samcro · 04/09/2019 16:15

we live in hope. I hope it is the end of them.

postmanwatcher · 04/09/2019 16:16

I hope so!

Thoughts here are if Corbin won he'd push for a united Ireland. He's got my vote right away!

Iggly · 04/09/2019 16:18

But where are you getting the ideas from that they’re massive communists? From their youth activities?

We live in a parliamentary democracy - they wouldn’t be able to get anything communist through parliament.

Alsohuman · 04/09/2019 16:22

Apparently Johnson has been accused of racism because of his letterbox comment. The applause wasn’t all from the opposition benches.

BertrandRussell · 04/09/2019 16:41

“I thought I had tyoed that the leftist stuff tends not to make it to manifesto.”
Well, if rhey’re not in the manifesto why are you worrying about them?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/09/2019 16:44

But where are you getting the ideas from that they’re massive communists? Me? I didn't say I thought that. I was illustrating why other people might think so... answering a specific poster with an example! I know about it because it affects me, my business... and disappoints me as an ex Labour member.

Well, if rhey’re not in the manifesto why are you worrying about them? Now now, Bertrand don't be so disingenuous, it doesn't suit you!

IceCreamConewithaflake · 04/09/2019 16:52

Labour (or rather Corbyn) are no better - they just overspend and wreck the economy anyway. I have voted Labour in the past but I really cannot stand Corbyn. Didn't his party vote for him to step down ages ago and he just ignored them? They should have made him go.
Liberals or Greens will get my vote whilst Labour still have Corbyn.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/09/2019 17:06

No, I think it was suggested to him after a YouGov poll put them 4th...

That took a bit of finding though Smile

postmanwatcher · 04/09/2019 17:32

Who would he have to replace Corbyn?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/09/2019 17:34

I hear the Buffy Tufted Marmost is well thought of!

postmanwatcher · 04/09/2019 17:45

What's the Keir Starmer lad like?

BertrandRussell · 04/09/2019 17:47

“What's the Keir Starmer lad like?”

Decent chap.

postmanwatcher · 04/09/2019 17:50

Maybe he could take over.

Alsohuman · 04/09/2019 17:50

Excellent man.

familycourtq · 04/09/2019 18:12

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I call bullshit - if the Tories are so great why are they still borrowing so much? They have had 10 years to sort it out.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 18:20

They have had 10 years to sort it out

I have no doubt that all the parties will announce that they can "sort it all out" because that is what they always say.

I wonder why anyone bothers to vote any more.
