To think girls can wear clothes with dinosaurs on?

I was looking at baby clothes for my baby with my family, I don’t know the sex. I pick out a nice set with dinosaurs on, I think it was green. DSis says “what if it’s a girl?” I said girls can wear dinosaur patterned clothes too?! DM thought I was going “too far”. Am I BU? Or are they being insane? Would you dress your daughter in clothes with dinosaurs on?

@Freezerbird gutted.

LaMarschallin · 03/09/2019 14:51

Well there was a long thread recently where many posters insisted that cars must be placed in an aisle clearly marked as 'boys' (instead of, for example, vehicles), as otherwise they are unable to find them. I'm sure those posters would also consider dinosaurs unsuitable for girls.

Oh. I see.
Fair play then.

I haven't checked thoroughly, but - in this case - surely no one can have found U?
It just read a bit like one of those AIBU threads stating the blooming obvious.

I had a bit of look just to see if anyone thought it was U and could justify why.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation Smile

One of the female contestants on University Challenge last night had a fabulous dinosaur t-shirt on. I have been idly wondering where to get one. It's the same print as the pinafore that @IHaveBrilloHair posted, so thanks for the link.

Blatherskite · 03/09/2019 15:51

@noroominthefridge I have a tshirt with the same print as @IHaveBrilloHair 's dress. It came from Amazon.

I bought it to wear when I took DD to see Dr Ben Garrod's 'So You Think You Know About Dinosaurs' show as she insisted that we all wore dino outfits :)

Pinktulipsarethebest · 03/09/2019 15:54

Yes it's vert trendy for girls. I am still waiting for "boys" clothes with butterflies and cupcakes on them.

Pukkatea · 03/09/2019 15:56

DSis is not a clever girl.

zxcvhjkl · 03/09/2019 16:00

Two words - Dino Dana.

She's a girl. She knows everything about dinosaurs. She plays with dinosaurs and helps them. She's smart. She's a girl.

FFS some people. Hmm @ your DSis

OP please buy the dinosaur outfit.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/09/2019 16:00

I am still waiting for "boys" clothes with butterflies and cupcakes on them.

I just googled 'boys t shirt butterfly' - loads of hits. Of course, many are sensibly designated as 'kids' T-shirts.

GhostHoward · 03/09/2019 16:11

Dinosaurs' tails are long and phallic shaped. Therefore boys are the only ones who can wear them. It's just like toys that are advertised for a single gender....they have to have the correct genitals, or they can't use them. It's basic science. Wink

(My youngest's favourite colour is pink and his favourite animal is a Unicorn....we get the gender conforming comments a lot now he's school age.)

LannieDuck · 03/09/2019 16:17

There were some wonderful dinosaur jumpsuits in Mothercare when my daughters were babies. Can't remember if they were in the boys' or girls' aisles specifically, but my daughters both wore them happily :)

And I bought DD1 a dinosaur necklace last year for xmas.

Why can't girls like dinosaurs? :( I'm sad that's even a thing.

BettysLeftTentacle · 03/09/2019 16:19

My youngest wears dinosaur dresses sometimes.

Total mindfuck.

ellzebellze · 03/09/2019 16:20

Oh come on, surely people still aren't obsessed with the pink/blue divide... are they?

Well my dd had bright green, blue and red sleepsuits with tractors, dinosaurs and trains on and that was 20 years ago. Loads of navy stuff as well and I can't recall people recoiling in horror.

It wasn't until she was about 18 months old that I realised that actually pink really suited her Grin

Don't worry, it isn't. The OP just has a weird family.

bengalcat · 03/09/2019 16:22

Lots of girls like dinosaurs and of course some boys like unicorns and flamingos .

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/09/2019 17:05

Anyone fancy a trip in a time machine to tell Mary Anning that girls can't like dinosaurs?

EmperorBallpitine · 03/09/2019 17:12

My 13 yo dd was wearing a T-shirt that said Today I want to be a princess dinosaur and has a big pink sequined dinosaur on it

noroominthefridge · 03/09/2019 17:17

Oooooh thanks @Blatherskite I shall have a look Grin

Treem · 03/09/2019 17:21

Traditional 'boy's things are 'in' for girls clothes the moment. You can get dresses with dinosaurs and rockets on from major retailers. Almost all have a bit of pink or purple in them to clearly mark them out as girls.

Bourbonbiccy · 03/09/2019 17:30

Of course she can wear dinosaurs, why wouldn't she.
You can wear whatever you like, there isn't actually a fashion police who will arrest you.

Megan2018 · 03/09/2019 17:35

I have newborn babygrows for my soon to be born daughter with dinosaurs on-granted they happen to be in slightly more girly colours (pastel shades of blue, yellow etc) but I’d have been happy with any colour!

Nonnymum · 03/09/2019 17:38

Of course a girl can wear clothes with dinosaurs, or trucks or anything you like. A baby won't care anyway! Also for your mum's information you can get dresses with dinosaurs on them

RainbowAlicorn · 03/09/2019 17:51

You can, I did and I still do.

whifflesqueak · 03/09/2019 18:00

My dd wore this dress until it was worn out. Sad it’s sold out now.

Discombobulated47 · 03/09/2019 18:01

My 5 year old had a gorgeous red dress from Boden, covered in coloured dinosaus. She loved it!

Ichangedmynamebecauseofmice · 03/09/2019 18:05

I had the exact same thing!

We said that we would have a dinosaur themed baby nursery and my MIL said “but what if it’s a girl?” (We didn’t find out the sex and ended up with a girl)

Girls can like dinosaurs too. I really like dinosaurs.

Thankfully there’s a nice mix of dinosaur stuff out there for girls and boys but none particularly unisex Sad although John Lewis does try.
