To think girls can wear clothes with dinosaurs on?

I was looking at baby clothes for my baby with my family, I don’t know the sex. I pick out a nice set with dinosaurs on, I think it was green. DSis says “what if it’s a girl?” I said girls can wear dinosaur patterned clothes too?! DM thought I was going “too far”. Am I BU? Or are they being insane? Would you dress your daughter in clothes with dinosaurs on?

I have dinosaur pants. True fact.

FreezerBird · 03/09/2019 14:08

My daughter is 11 and has disabilities which have meant lots of delays with lots of things.

The last couple of days we have suddenly made massive strides with toilet training and she is currently rocking some fabulous dinosaur knickers. I couldn't be happier.

To be fair even I haven’t heard of Mary Anning

YANBU! Of course girls can wear dinosaurs

ladymalfoy · 03/09/2019 14:10

My 5yr DD has a TRex costume. It was a present from Father Christmas when she was 3.
On her school report it that she wanted to be a palaeontologist.
Beats brand influencer hands down.

ladymalfoy · 03/09/2019 14:11

@FreezerBird where did you get the kickers?! I want some more my DD-metoo-

platform9andthreequarters · 03/09/2019 14:13

Of course girls can wear dinosaurs!
That being said... It really irritates me that we seem to have moved on to dinosaurs and cars being on dresses and girls clothes, but cats and rabbits are still only on very girly clothes. DS loves cats..

And I find the boys sections of clothes shops so utterly boring, full of drab blue/grey/black clothes. I dress my DS in bright colours and funky patterns that I could use again for a girl.

TartanCurtains1 · 03/09/2019 14:15

In fact I would put DD in exclusively dino clothes (maybe other blue clothes, ones with cars etc) when visiting your mum and sister. Why not.

pooboobsleeprepeat · 03/09/2019 14:15

You need a penis to like dinosaurs.

joggerbottom · 03/09/2019 14:18

I wish shops would stop dividing clothes into boys/ girls...especially for babies and preschoolers. YANBU op.

Ariela · 03/09/2019 14:18

Just remind them that 100 years ago pink was seen as a boy colour - red was manly and pink was for boys

JustMe81 · 03/09/2019 14:18

I had similar happen yesterday. I’m due my daughter in 12 weeks and have a 2 year old boy. He’s just outgrowing the cutest pair of sloth pyjamas. Ok they’re grey and you wouldn’t find them in the girl section but I said I’d wash them and put them away for our daughter to wear. My OH looked at me like I had 2 heads. I’m hoping he was having a moment and doesn’t really expect me to throw out perfectly good clothes because they’re not typically girlie. Confused

Iamnotacerealkiller · 03/09/2019 14:19

Interesting fact - it is possible that dinosaurs had their sex chromosomes reversed. Many birds (which evolved from dinos) and some reptiles now have reversed XX/XY system where the XX impregnated the XY which is the opposite to us and most animals. (its obviously a bit more complicated then this but hayho)

This has led to some very interesting things like cuckoos eggs matching different host birds eggs despite all the cuckoos being a single species.

I think from this we can definitely conclude that dinos are gender neutral :)

CuteOrangeElephant · 03/09/2019 14:20

Frugi has recently released the most gorgeous dinosaur range. If you are feeling rich.

LaMarschallin · 03/09/2019 14:22

Did you actually expect anybody to tell that you were BU?

If you did, then you were BU.

TheresTheFlyingFuckIDontGive · 03/09/2019 14:24

My daughter is 3 and her clothes are from the girls' section and the boys' section of shops, just whatever I/she likes. She also wears the full kit (including socks) of DH's favourite football team.

Apparently I'm not allowed to call my daughter a full kit wanker though.

FreezerBird · 03/09/2019 14:25

@ladymalfoy They were from Morrison's, but quite a while ago I think. (It's been a long road).

G5000 · 03/09/2019 14:29

Well there was a long thread recently where many posters insisted that cars must be placed in an aisle clearly marked as 'boys' (instead of, for example, vehicles), as otherwise they are unable to find them. I'm sure those posters would also consider dinosaurs unsuitable for girls.

gospelsinger · 03/09/2019 14:32

Friends DD(2) was wearing a skirt with dinosaurs on the other day. I loved it. Very definitely a girl's item of clothing.

Justanothernameonthepage · 03/09/2019 14:35

My 2 year old DD loves dinosaurs. Would have preferred Dino's to the twee & boring flower prints we were lumbered with that never got worn. (Maman Bebe normally have pink Dino/Dino dresses if needed)

Gottobefree · 03/09/2019 14:35

Of course girls can wear dinosaurs ! My niece wanted a tshirt from the boys section once but got sad because it wasn't in the girls section.

I went over picked her size and said of course you can wear it. I swear her eyes lit up and she now doesn't think that way.

When I was growing up my mum would let me choose what I wanted to wear. Regardless of 'boys' or 'girls' sections. Needless to say I had the spiderman pjs and not the cinderella pjs.

Go with your instinct. You're correct.

SimonJT · 03/09/2019 14:35

What about girl dinosaurs?!

My son has got changed out of his school uniform, he is wearing blue leggings, a pink top covered in dogs and cats, his hair is also in a top knot. I think your family would faint if they saw him!

Thymejuice · 03/09/2019 14:37

Thanks for the adult female dinosaur clothing links. I'm excited!

Someone posted such a cute little baby dinosaur outfit earlier. Just gorgeous. Perfect for a baby - boy or girl.

Blatherskite · 03/09/2019 14:40

My 9 year old DD wants to be a Palaeontologist when she grows up and is quite regularly to be found dresses head to toe in dino prints. Thankfully, dinosaurs seem to be the latest 'thing' and you can get outfits everywhere at the moment - including dresses and playsuits - but DD is also quite happy 'straying' in the 'boys' section if there is something that catches her eye.

We've just picked up a dinosaur lunch bag and water bottle for the new term.

If you need something to win the doubters round, there are plenty of pink dino things and dino dresses around at the moment. Silly, but might help.

ZZ male, ZW female.

the cutest pair of sloth pyjamas.

Surely sloths are the most completely appropriate creature for PJs for either sex?
